THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS Clip Teases a Tragic Origin, Galactus, and a Whole Lot of Multiverse Mayhem — GeekTyrant

Geek Tyrant05-06-2025

Some Marvel fans got a surprise taste of The Fantastic Four: First Steps over the weekend, thanks to a clip from the Marvel movie that screened during CCXP in Mexico and may have revealed a major piece of the MCU's bigger puzzle.
According to Inverse (translating coverage from Omelete), the scene shows Marvel's First Family escaping a crumbling planet, one that's apparently in the process of being devoured by none other than Galactus.
As the Silver Surfer chases down their ship, Sue Storm goes into labor, and Johnny Storm fights off the Silver Surfer as Reed Richards steps help his wife deliver the baby. As this is all going on, Ben Grimm pilots the ship into a black hole.
Some fans seem to think that the scene could also confirm a theory that's been making the rounds since we all saw Thunderbolts* post-credits stinger. The theory is that the Fantastic Four team couldn't protect their world from being destroyed by Galactus, which forces them to find a new home, and this is where Earth-616 enters the picture.
Of course, that's all speculation. It's just as likely they're trying to stop Galactus from reaching Earth by intercepting him early. This would place the clip as a second-act low point, where our heroes get a taste of what they're up against, barely escape, and live to fight another day.
It's also worth noting that Marvel chose this scene to showcase at a fan convention. That suggests it's not some big third-act spoiler. More likely, it's a midpoint moment that sets the emotional and cosmic stakes moving forward.
The new Fantastic Four movie unfolds in a slick, retro-futuristic alternate universe that riffs on the 1960s, which is an era where the Fantastic Four are the only known superheroes. Marvel's been pretty open about that setup, and they've confirmed that Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach will reprise their roles in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars .
It's clear The Fantastic Four: First Steps is aiming for something big, epic stakes with emotional core, all powered by that team chemistry we've seen teased so far.

Marvel's VISION Finale Reprotedly Being Tested With Multiple Endings, Each Featuring Big MCU Returns — GeekTyrant

Marvel Studios seems to be taking an experimental approach with its upcoming Disney+ series Vision as they are reportedly testing out multiple endings, each stacked with major MCU character returns. According to reliable scooper Daniel Richtman, Marvel is weighing at least two potential finales for the series. One centers on Billy Maximoff and the mysterious 'Ghost Agatha', while another brings back Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff, As Richtman notes, Marvel is 'testing multiple endings' and appears to be playing the long game here, perhaps waiting to see how Vision lands in the larger release calendar. Both finale options connect to bigger arcs. A reunion between Billy and Vision as he searches for his twin Tommy makes emotional sense, especially as the Young Avengers continue forming in the background. But a resurrected would be a seismic moment for the franchise and set her up perfectly for what's next in the Multiverse Saga. Despite Marvel skipping San Diego Comic-Con's Hall H this year, D23 in August might be the place we finally get official details. Until then, fans are just piecing together the the rumors hitting the internet. Paul Bettany is confirmed to return as Vision, and James Spader is making his long-awaited comeback as Ultron. Also returning is Faran Tahir as Raza from Iron Man, alongside Todd Stashwick reportedly playing Paladin. T'Nia Miller has been cast as Jocasta, while Kerry Condon and Emily Hampshire will play the AIs F.R.I.D.A.Y. and E.D.I.T.H., respectively. Ruaridh Mollica is expected to portray a mystery character believed to be Tommy Maximoff. As for Olsen, when asked back in March about her Marvel future, she teased: "Well, if someone hasn't seen Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, I did die." When pressed further, she added, "Not that I'm aware of." Sure, maybe she's playing coy. But if this Vision finale really does bring Wanda back, Marvel could be quietly building one of its most emotionally charged arcs since WandaVision, a saga that began with grief and now maybe ends with redemption.

GXO Cleared to Acquire Wincanton, Taps DHL Vet as New CEO

GXO got the green light to complete its acquisition of fellow logistics services provider Wincanton, but it will have to sell off the U.K.-based company's dedicated grocery warehousing unit to do so. In a final report issued Thursday, the U.K.'s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) cleared the $965 million transaction after a yearlong probe into the deal. As part of the clearance, GXO says it will divest 'a small number' of Wincanton grocery contracts in the U.K. More from Sourcing Journal Chain Reaction: Michael Goldman of Caru Containers on Why 'Sourcing Diversity is Paramount' $10B Trump-Approved 'Green Corridors' Project to Drive Efficiency in US-Mexico Trade Forward Air Chairman Ousted, Potential Sale Appears in View A day after the CMA approval, GXO unveiled it found its next CEO to succeed chief executive Malcolm Wilson, who is retiring later this year. Patrick Kelleher, who most recently served as CEO for top competitor DHL Supply Chain North America, will take on the role starting Aug. 19. Kelleher had worked his way up through DHL Group's ranks since joining the company in 1992, before assuming his leading role at the North American supply chain division last July. During his time at the contract logistics provider, Kelleher had led strategic initiatives spanning transportation and supply chain planning, oversaw DHL's deployment of advanced robotics throughout the warehouse, including the Boston Dynamics Stretch robot and the Locus Robotics LocusBots. Kelleher also presided over four M&A transactions in the past year alone, including May's acquisition of retail logistics specialist IDS Fulfillment and the deal to acquire the reverse logistics division of Inmar Intelligence. 'Patrick is a world-class operator with the relevant experience to lead GXO through its next phase of growth,' said Brad Jacobs, chairman of GXO's board of directors, in a statement. 'His proven track record and deep expertise in engineered solutions, automation, and cutting-edge contract logistics make him uniquely qualified to drive value for our customers and shareholders. We're thrilled to welcome him as our new CEO.' In February, at the Manifest supply chain and logistics conference in Las Vegas, Kelleher told Sourcing Journal that he believed the contract logistics market is primed for growth, namely due to the ongoing demand for warehouse space. 'It's about being thoughtful around decisions that are made in standing up additional warehousing capacity. That is an inflexible asset in terms of being able to move from one location to another,' Kelleher said. 'We need to be picking the right location, making sure that is data informed, working with the breadth of customers that we have to have a good view of the different markets that we're participating in, or should be participating in—to make those long-term investments.' The logistics provider also raised its 2025 guidance on Thursday, including expected synergies of the Wincanton deal, which remains subject to integration in the third quarter. Organic revenue growth is now forecast to be between 3.5 percent and 6.5 percent, up from a previous range of 3 percent to 6 percent. Adjusted EBITDA is expected to be in the range of $860 million to $880 million, increase from the prior scope of $840 million to $860 million. 'Across our operations, we are seeing better than expected volumes and accelerated productivity gains in existing operations and new startups,' said Wilson. The combined news sent GXO's stock up more than 11 percent in Friday morning trading. As for the Wincanton deal, the CMA still has to approve a buyer for the dedicated grocery warehousing services, which refer to facilities that are used exclusively by a single customer. 'Warehousing services play a crucial role in ensuring the seamless movement of goods across the U.K., allowing our supermarkets to maintain well-stocked shelves with thousands of items we buy every day,' said Richard Feasey, chair of the CMA's independent inquiry group. 'Healthy competition in this market is key to managing costs for supermarkets and grocers and improving their performance—ultimately ensuring consumers pay the best possible prices for products in stores.' With the acquisition cleared, teams at GXO and Wincanton are permitted to collaborate on specified ongoing aerospace and defense proposals in the U.K. effective immediately. No further regulatory reviews are required. GXO has been busy as it awaited the ruling from the CMA. Earlier this month, the company also introduced an enhanced version of its multi-tenant warehousing solution GXO Direct to U.S. customers. Debuting in North America in 2018, GXO Direct is designed to enable retail customers to use the company's network of warehouses to position goods closer to end consumers for one-day delivery. The newest update integrates service capabilities GXO acquired from the $181 million acquisition of e-commerce order fulfillment platform PFSweb, including high-touch contact center services, secure payments and fraud protection and distributed order orchestration systems. In May, the company also extended its partnership with supply chain solutions provider Blue Yonder to power its warehouse management system (WMS) capabilities. Dominique Thorne Teases Ironheart's Possible Return in AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY and SECRET WARS — GeekTyrant

Dominique Thorne isn't officially on the cast list for Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars … yet, but the Ironheart star just dropped a sly hint that Riri Williams may be suiting up alongside Earth's Mightiest Heroes after all. In a recent chat with The Direct, Thorne was asked point-blank about her potential return in Marvel's upcoming mega-event films. She didn't confirm anything outright, MCU actors are famously trained to keep quite, but her response was telling: 'Oh, you know, what can I say? The odds might be in our favor. Who knows? We'll see. We'll see.' Fans have been wondering how, or if, the Disney+ characters will play into the multiversal madness. So far, the official Doomsday cast is light on streaming heroes, even as rumors swirl with names like Kate Bishop, Kamala Khan, and Billy Maximoff in the mix. It seems only a matter of time before Marvel pulls the trigger on the next-gen team-up… whether it's Young Avengers aka The Champions. With Ironheart finally gearing up for release, Riri Williams could be being set for a big leap from solo armor-builder to universe-saving genius. Thorne also commented on the show's new trailer and the unexpected fusion of tech and mysticism at play: 'I think we've got little tastes and teases of that previously. Throughout, you know, the phases that have led us here. But this, absolutely, to me, feels like new territory in terms of how tech and magic can merge, how they can work together, how they might clash.' That blend could make Riri a key player in the coming cosmic-scale conflicts. After all, if Secret Wars follows the comics even loosely, a Stark-level mind fused with magical tech will fit right into the story Marvel wants to tell. Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters December 18, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027. Both are in the hands of Joe and Anthony Russo, returning to the MCU after delivering some of the biggest hits in franchise history. The Russos shared after their SDCC panel: 'Being able to create stories and explore characters within the Marvel Universe fulfilled a life-long dream of ours, and we discovered a powerful connection with audiences in each film that we made. We're thrilled to collaborate once again with Kevin, Lou and the entire Marvel team to bring this epic adventure in storytelling to new and surprising places for both the fans and ourselves.' It will be interesting to see if Riri Williams does show up in the next Avengers movies. There's a lot more characters that have yet to be announced, so it is possible.
