Canva rolls out new AI video clip feature powered by Google's Veo 3 model

Canva is bringing Google's latest and most advanced AI video generation model to its platform.
The design software company announced on Thursday, June 19, that users will be able to tap into Veo 3 through a newly launched Canva AI feature called 'Create a Video Clip' in order to generate an eight second-long video clip with sound.
With this feature powered by Veo 3, users will be able to easily turn their pitch deck opener or social media post into an AI-generated video teaser. The Create a Video Clip feature is accessible from the Canva homepage. It is available to Canva Pro, Teams, and Enterprise subscribers as well as Canva Nonprofit users.
However, users will be restricted to five AI-generated videos every month for the time being.
'We're one of the first platforms to integrate Google's Veo 3 video generation model, just weeks after its debut. Create a Video Clip makes this advanced technology accessible to millions on Canva, empowering anyone to produce dynamic, polished videos with high-quality visuals, realistic motion, and synchronized audio,' Danny Wu, the head of AI products at Canva, said in a blog post.
The 'Create a Video Clip' feature is also available for paid users of Leonardo AI, the generative AI content and research platform acquired by Canva last year.
Follow these steps to create an AI-generated video using the Create a Video Clip feature that is powered by Google's Veo 3 model:
– Go to Canva AI from the homepage or sidebar
– Select Create a Video Clip
– Enter a prompt based on the video you want to generate
– The video will open in Video Editor where you can fine-tune it using Canva tools such as Brand Kit to add text, music, etc.
'From there, it can also be copied into other design formats – whether it's a social post presentation, or campaign asset,' Canva said.
In order to prevent the generation of harmful content, Canva said that its new feature is protected by Canva Shield, which is designed to moderate the inputs and outputs from these tools.
Canva on Wednesday also revealed plans to acquire an AI-powered creative intelligence platform called MagicBrief as the company looks to broaden the scope of its AI tech stack.
Earlier this year, Canva introduced its all-new Visual Suite 2.0, which includes an AI coding tool, a voice-enabled AI feature, and an AI-powered spreadsheet generator. Magic Studio and Canva AI have been used over 18 billion times so far, the company revealed.

Swiggy pilots travel and lifestyle concierge app Crew

Swiggy has launched a travel and lifestyle concierge app, Crew, on a pilot basis, according to information about the app published on Google Play Store. This marks the Bengaluru-based company's entry into a new business after food delivery, dining out, quick commerce and professional services. The app, which involves human concierges in addition to generative artificial intelligence (AI), helps users plan trips, going beyond simply suggesting itineraries.A Swiggy spokesperson did not comment on the year, ahead of its initial public offering (IPO), the company had started testing Rare Life, a personalised concierge service focused on elite and exclusive experiences. However, this project was discontinued after Swiggy decided not to scale it up beyond a small cohort. In January, the company rolled out professional services marketplace Pyng, signalling that it was following a house of apps strategy similar to Chinese tech giants Alibaba and Meituan, which have also had multiple apps for various services. This is in contrast to the 'superapp' strategy, where consumers are expected to come for one basic use-case and transact across multiple services. Also, superapps are yet to see any noteworthy success at scale in Crew and Pyng, Swiggy now has the main app, which houses food delivery, quick commerce, dining out and its events platform Scenes. The quick commerce unit, Instamart, also got a separate app in launch of Crew was first reported by Entrackr. Swiggy recently suspended its peer-to-peer parcel delivery service Genie, which was available in 70 cities. The company has also licenced its cloud kitchen brands to food service outfit Kouzina, with plans to fully transfer these businesses upon fulfilment of certain conditions. On Friday, Swiggy shares ended 3.1% higher at Rs 385.90 on the BSE.

Google Search Live Is Your Gemini-Powered Assistant For AI Mode On Mobile: What It Offers

Last Updated: Google is bringing Gemini AI voice support to Search with AI mode for mobile users and it will give you the best of both worlds. Google is quickly expanding the reach of Gemini AI assistant to all corners and we mean it. Search has come under threat because of the new AI tools but the company feels that both can co-exist and help you deliver the results. Google Search Live is basically a mashup of Search and Gemini Live that works through the AI Mode on search for mobile users. Google is working out the schematics of the new feature with a limited user base for now but expect a full roll out in the coming months. We've already seen Gemini Live operate and talk to users by offering them a conversational experience. Search Live is doing that and giving you the usual search results on the screen. The new feature will work in AI mode for people in the US and you have to sign up for the Labs program that Google offers for its unreleased tools. Once you do that, you will see a Live icon in the Google app on Android and iOS as well. You can tap on this icon to start conversing with Search and the AI-generated model will respond to any of your queries. And just like Gemini Live, you can continue the conversation without using any wake word to trigger the AI assistant and have follow-up queries for Search AI. And yes, you can get a transcript of the chat you have with Search Live so that you can go back and check the history in case ever needed. Google is going to add camera-centric support so that you can show the visual to Search and let it respond based on what it can see.

Digital payments for ads or software? Here's where TDS may surprise you

Freelancers, small business owners, and e-commerce sellers are increasingly relying on digital platforms for advertising, software, and sales. But these payments often come with tax obligations that many overlook, especially under India's Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) rules. Experts say a good starting point is identifying whether the payment is made to an Indian or foreign company. 'This is crucial, as domestic payments are governed by Sections 194C and 194J, while international ones fall under Section 195,' says Ankit Jain, partner at a chartered accountancy firm, Ved Jain and Associates. Domestic versus foreign payments: Know your provider For payments to Indian providers, such as digital ad agencies or cloud service resellers: Section 194C applies to ad contracts; TDS at 2 per cent if the annual payment exceeds Rs 30,000. Section 194J applies to professional or technical services like AWS or Zoom; TDS at 10 per cent. Exemption: 'TDS isn't required if you aren't under tax audit or are a non-corporate entity,' notes Jain. For foreign providers, such as Google, Meta, or SaaS platforms: TDS under Section 195 applies, but rates vary depending on the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA). You must also file Form 15CA/CB, even if TDS isn't deducted; failure attracts a penalty of Rs 1 lakh. Common mistakes to avoid According to Ritika Nayyar, partner at a law firm, Singhania & Co., many taxpayers: Wrongly assume no TDS is needed if the provider is foreign. Skip filing Form 15CA/CB if no TDS is deducted. Misapply DTAA benefits without obtaining a Tax Residency Certificate. Ignore changes in TDS law or documentation requirements. Selling online? Know your 1 per cent TDS rule Platforms like Amazon, Flipkart, and Zomato deduct 1 per cent TDS on seller earnings under Section 194-O. 'This amount reflects in your Form 26AS and can be claimed as a credit while filing returns,' says Nayyar, adding that, 'Maintaining accurate sales and TDS records is key.' Can small users avoid TDS? Yes, in many cases. If your turnover is below Rs 1 crore (business) or Rs 50 lakh (profession), you're generally not liable to deduct TDS. Also, individuals or HUFs paying for personal use are exempt from TDS obligations. But for international payments, no basic exemption exists, warns Jain. 'All such cases must be evaluated carefully, especially when claiming DTAA benefits.'
