Boston Celtics draft prospects: Ryan Kalkbrenner highlights
Brad Stevens is slowly developing a reputation for using late draft picks to select well-polished prospects who have spent years in the collegiate system. The idea is that by adding a more polished talent, the Boston Celtics will be getting someone capable of contributing sooner rather than later.
Perhaps that's why Ryan Kalkbrenner feels like such a logical addition to Joe Mazzulla's roster. Kalkbrenner is a five-year product of Creighton. He is coming of an award-winning season to end his second senior year. Furthermore, he also has a pre-built understanding with Baylor Scheierman, having shared a locker room during their time together in the Big East.
Kalkbrenner played in 35 games for Creighton this season. He averaged 19.2 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 2.7 blocks. He also shot the rock at a 65.3% clip from the floor and 34.4% from 3-point range. Most importantly, he's projected to be available in the late first round or early second round. With Jayson Tatum sidelined for the 2025-26 season, the Boston Celtics may need some additional depth at both forward positions. Given Boston's difficult cap situation, Brad Stevens could turn toward the upcoming NBA Draft to add some competition and talent to the back end of Joe Mazzulla's roster. Boston boasts the 28th and 32nd picks in the upcoming draft. If the Celtics are looking to add size and shooting, Cedric Coward out of Washington State could be a good option. Boston Celtics draft prospects: Max Shulga highlights
As the Boston Celtics get closer to the 2025 NBA Draft, Brad Stevens will be putting the finishing touches on his big board. Given the franchise's current situation, Stevens will likely target players that are ready to contribute, or challenge for minutes right out of the gate. Boston will likely need help at every position next season, as the roster projects to look different by the end of the summer. If Celtics fans are looking for a potential guard of the future, then Max Shulga could fit the bill. The 6-foot-4 ball-handler is a five-year collegiate product, having spent his first three seasons with Utah State before transferring to VCU for the past two seasons. Shulga is entering the draft on the back of a strong season. He averaged 15 points 5.9 rebounds and 4 assists in 35 outings, nailing 38.7% of his 3-point attempts.
