Ohio State basketball head coach Jake Diebler provides summer program update
The Ohio State basketball team has started its offseason workouts as it prepares to put the pieces in place for the 2025-2026 season. It welcomed in some former players the last few days for "Vet Week," has done a lot of five-on-five scrimmaging, gone through conditioning, and worked through many drills and skill development already.
The hope is that this year is going to be much, much better than what we've seen over the last three years when the Buckeyes missed the NCAA Tournament. It'll be head coach Jake Diebler's second year, and he sorely needs to build some momentum to turn this program around and get it where everyone believes it should be.
Diebler met with the media this week to provide an update on summer workouts, where the team stands, how the House Settlement impacts the program, and much more. We are sharing the entire video of the press conference thanks to the Columbus Dispatch, so you can get Diebler's full comments.
Dielber and his staff have a good mix of returning scorers and new blood that will need to mix together and find the chemistry and identity to make a big leap forward. Whether or not that happens remains to be seen, but we're all here putting the optimism out in the universe hoping it all comes to fruition this season.

On a recent episode of The Rich Eisen Show, Schlereth touched on the Jets' inefficient run game and Rodgers' lingering injuries, then explained how great the future Hall of Fame QB looked at the end of the 2024 season: "Toward the end of the season, when I dug through the three games that I always watch as I'm prepping — I'm breaking down the coach's film, three games — I was like, 'Damn, Aaron can play,'" Schlereth said. "And then I'm watching him pregame on Sunday morning, and pregame I'm watching him throw the football versus the way a bunch of 25-year-olds throw the football — and it's like varsity versus JV. That dude can still rip it. … If [Rodgers] is healthy, and you've got [the Steelers run game], mixed with that play-action game, he's going to tear it up." The Jets had the second-worst rushing offense in terms of yards last season — and while OC Arthur Smith made it clear the Steelers didn't acquire Rodgers and DK Metcalf to "run the wishbone," the four-time MVP should have a drastically better running game to work with in 2025. There has been some movement in the latest college football recruiting rankings for the 2026 class. Advertisement The Ohio State Buckeyes sit in third place on the On3 2026 rankings. That's where the Buckeyes have been for most of this offseason, but the gap to the No. 1 spot widened a little this week. Ohio State trails the USC Trojans and LSU Tigers in the 2026 rankings. On Thursday, the Trojans landed four-star edge rusher Luke Wafle instead of the Buckeyes. The addition of Wafle gives USC 30 commits in the 2026 class. Ohio State has 16 while LSU has landed just 10.
