The Family Development Foundation (FDF) welcomed Sheikha Moza bint Khalifa bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Ambassador of Elderly Projects at PureHealth, during her official visit to its centre in Abu Dhabi, as part of its continued commitment to empowering senior citizens and enhancing community partnerships.
During her visit, Sheikha Moza was introduced to FDF's comprehensive range of strategic initiatives and services designed to enhance the quality of life for senior citizens. She was briefed on the Foundation's efforts to support this vital demographic, including service delivery mechanisms and continuous improvements to align with international best practices in elder care.
Sheikha Moza commended the Foundation's efforts in fostering stability and delivering high-quality care and support to senior citizens and residents. She underscored the importance of fostering strong partnerships between government entities and community organisations to ensure the sustainability of programs and services for senior citizens that promote well-being and create a supportive, inclusive environment.
She also praised the efforts and vision of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, 'Mother of the Nation,' Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood. She commended Her Highness's unwavering support for senior citizens and her guidance in launching comprehensive programs focused on enhancing healthcare services offered, providing psychosocial support, and encouraging active community participation for the elderly.
Sheikha Moza stated: 'This visit reaffirms the strong collaborative framework between the Family Development Foundation and PureHealth, particularly through the Emirati Women's Charter (EWC), proudly championed by Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak. This partnership reflects our collective belief in the transformative role Emirati women play in national development and building a sustainable future for the UAE.'
Her Excellency Mariam Muslim Al Mazrouei, Community Services Division Director at FDF, and Her Excellency Wafa Mohamed Al Ali, Director of the Family Development Department, accompanied Sheikha Moza on a tour of the centre. During the tour, Sheikha Moza was introduced to several distinguished initiatives tailored to senior citizens. This includes the Safe Home Initiative, which promotes best practices for providing safe and healthy home environments for the elderly; the Digital Empowerment Workshop, aimed at enhancing digital literacy among seniors; and the Creative Handicrafts Session, which provides a platform for showcasing traditional craftsmanship and encouraging intergenerational knowledge sharing, thus preserving cultural heritage.
On the occasion, Her Excellency Mariam Mohammed Al Rumaithi, Director General of the Family Development Foundation (FDF), remarked: 'We are honoured by the visit of Sheikha Moza bint Khalifa Al Nahyan, under the leadership of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak. It reflects the deep-rooted commitment of Her Highness to empowering families and promoting their role in social development. Her Excellency Al Rumaithi added that discussions during the visit focused on potential avenues for future collaboration between FDF and PureHealth, particularly in promoting senior citizens' participation in community programs and expanding their contributions to sustainable development. She highlighted the significance of recognising senior citizens as essential contributors to social cohesion, cultural continuity, and the transmission of values and wisdom across generations.

People caring for their elderly parents in Abu Dhabi are able to avail of a flexible working programme as part of an initiative to enhance the well-being of senior citizens. President Sheikh Mohamed launched the Barakatna project in April to improve the efficiency of home care provided to the elderly in a suitable family setting with the aim of ensuring they enjoy a stable, healthy and fulfilling life. It was announced by Abu Dhabi Media Office on Monday that those caring for their elderly parents could benefit from 'flexible work systems'. 'Home care requires commitment and special attention, and we are working on providing the necessary regulations to support this responsibility, including the presence of a dedicated nurse for the elderly, along with continuing co-ordination with employers, said Mariam Mohammed Al Rumaithi, director general of the Family Development Foundation. The scheme reflects the extensive efforts being made to ensure the stability and quality of life of those providing care for the elderly, said Ms Al Rumaithi. The initiative seeks to empower caregivers to access these systems and strengthen the role of children in supporting and caring for the elderly, she added. 'We are proud to be part of this inspiring humanitarian initiative, which aims to develop regulatory human resources policies within the Abu Dhabi government and empower employees to fulfil their family responsibilities without compromising their professional performance,' said Ibrahim Nasser, undersecretary of the Department of Government Enablement. When Sheikh Mohamed launched the scheme in April, he spoke of the vital role the elderly play in society, describing them as a vital pillar of society whose wisdom, experience and resilience help to guide younger generations. Senior citizens remain an integral part of the nation's social fabric, he added. Among the other services, of the scheme is providing temporary alternative care services when family members are unable to provide the level required. The scheme will also allow for home improvements to be carried out, in facilities used by senior citizens, to support primary caregivers.

16 June 2025 18:28 ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)As part of the Barakatna initiative, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, the Family Development Foundation (FDF) and the Department of Government Enablement – Abu Dhabi (DGE), in collaboration with the Department of Community Development – Abu Dhabi (DCD), have announced the provision of a service that allows caregivers of parents an opportunity to benefit from flexible work initiative seeks to empower caregivers to access the flexible systems, and strengthen the role of children in supporting and caring for senior citizens. Mariam Mohammed Al Rumaithi, Director-General of Family Development Foundation, highlighted FDF's commitment towards senior citizens' welfare, stating that extensive efforts are being made to ensure their stability and quality of life. The efforts also aim to ensure that caregivers of senior citizens can fulfill their social and professional roles, and balance their personal, professional, and social responsibilities. Mariam Mohammed Al Rumaithi said, 'Home care requires commitment and special attention, and we are working on providing the necessary regulations to support this responsibility, including the presence of a dedicated nurse for senior citizens, along with ongoing coordination with employers.'Ibrahim Nasser, Undersecretary of the Department of Government Enablement, said: 'We are proud to be part of this inspiring humanitarian initiative, which aims to develop regulatory human resources policies within the Abu Dhabi Government, and empower employees to fulfil their family responsibilities without compromising their professional performance.'Ibrahim Nasser noted that this initiative helps foster a flexible work environment, and achieve a balanced personal and professional life, positively impacting employee wellbeing and the sustainability of government Al Blooshi, Director of the Strategic Planning and Institutional Development Department at FDF, emphasised that the service allows individuals to apply for a Primary Caregiver Certificate, which reaffirms their role in providing social services to one or both parents classified as senior certificate enables caregivers to obtain approval from their employer to benefit from the flexible work systems, in line with the stipulated regulations and Al Blooshi said one of the key conditions is that the employee must be working at a government entity within Abu Dhabi, and that the senior citizen's health condition requires continuous in-home care, based on a medical report issued by a licensed healthcare facility in Abu Dhabi that is dated no more than three Mohammed Al Ali, Director of Family Development at FDF, highlighted that applicants' parents must be Emirati senior citizens aged 60 and older, in accordance with the National Policy for Senior Citizens. The applicant must be a first-degree relative - son or daughter,reside with the senior citizen permanently in the same household, and be the primary caregiver. It is also required that the applicant holds a Family Book issued in Abu Dhabi, and resides permanently in the Mohammed Al Ali said to receive approval to benefit from the flexible work systems for caregivers of their parents, applicants must use a digital ID to log into the TAMM platform, submit the requisite application and documents, receive an application confirmation, schedule a home visit by FDF, and be notified of the social assessment visit date. Candidates can obtain their Primary Caregiver Certificate after successfully passing the evaluation. This step comes as part of the Abu Dhabi Government's ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of life for senior citizens ,and provide practical solutions for Emirati families, enabling them to balance their family roles without compromising their professional responsibilities.
