Institutions and organisations observed the 11th International Yoga Day (IYD) by conducting mass exercise sessions and awareness programmes on Saturday, centred on this year's theme 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health'.
The Tiruchi Division of Southern Railway observed the day with mass yoga training sessions for officers and staff across various locations of the division.
At Tiruchi, a yoga session was conducted at Rail Mahal under the leadership of M.S. Anbalagan, Divisional Railway Manager. The two-hour yoga training was conducted by experts from the Art of Living Foundation, Tiruchi. Participants were guided through a series of asanas and pranayama tailored to meet the physical and mental demands of railway staff.
Yoga sessions were held for staff at multiple locations across the division, including Vriddhachalam, Chidambaram, Kumbakonam, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Thanjavur, and Mayiladuthurai. A separate yoga training session was organised for employees of the Diesel Shed at Ponmalai, according to a release from the Tiruchi Railway Division.
Over 500 persons participated in the mass yoga event organised by the Archaeological Survey of India in association with the 34(TN) Independent Company NCC, Thanjavur, at Sri Brahadeeswarar temple, Thanjavur.
The yoga session in the early morning hours attracting the participation of NCC cadets and elderly temple-goers underscored the relevance of yoga as a timeless practice for harmony of body, mind and spirit, according to an official release.
At an event organised at the Indoor Auditorium of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) Community Centre of Kailasapuram Township, general managers, senior officials, representatives of employees' unions and associations and township residents participated in an hour-long yoga practice session.
Trainers from Isha Foundation conducted the sessions which comprised of yoga postures, exercises and breathing techniques.
Programmes were conducted for students from various campus schools of BHEL Tiruchi, including RSK Higher Secondary School, BHEL Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Boiler Plant Girls Higher Secondary School and Boiler Plant Boys Higher Secondary School.
Educational institutions
The National Service Scheme (NSS) cell of Bharathidasan University held a Yoga programme in association with the Centre for Spirituality and Yogic Sciences on Thursday. S. Jeyaprakash, managing trustee, Temple of Consciousness, Tiruchi, and his team demonstrated the yoga postures and trained volunteers.
Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College's Centre for Ethics and Human Values and the Department of Physical Education, held a programme in hybrid mode in association with Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram (KYM), Chennai.
In her online address, Shobana Srinivasan, director, Department of Healing Chants and senior yoga therapist, KYM, highlighted how yoga is a timeless tool for transformation.
The NSS cell and 4 TN Girls BN NCC (Army Wing), of the college jointly celebrated International Yoga Day with an exercise session. S. Sutharneswaran, founder, Svadhyaya Yoga Academy, Tiruchi, spoke on the importance of yoga in daily life.

On the occasion of the 11th International Yoga Day, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami officially launched the state's first-ever Yoga Policy from Bhararisain, the state's summer capital. He declared, 'Uttarakhand will be developed as the global capital of yoga and wellness.' While delivering his message 'Yoga in Every Home, Health for Every Person,' Dhami spoke of the Central Government's support in the initiative and announced the establishment of a 'Spiritual Economic Zones' in Garhwal and Kumaon divisions. These zones will reportedly be developed as international hubs of ayurveda, yoga, and spiritual tourism, and will also facilitate employment in the state, helping to curb migration from the hill regions. By March 2026, yoga services will be ensured at all AYUSH Health and Wellness Centers, and by 2030, five new yoga hubs will be developed across the state, Dhami said. Under the new policy, establishment of yoga and meditation centers will be eligible for up to Rs 20 lakh in subsidies, and research related to yoga and naturopathy will be granted up to Rs 10 lakhs. Dhami said, 'Yoga is not just exercise; it is a philosophy of life that has united the world beyond caste, religion, and borders. It has become the most powerful bridge of global unity and humanity.' Among the dignitaries attending the event were Cabinet Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat, Ambassador of Mexico to India Federico Salas, Ambassador of Nepal Dr. Shankar Prasad Sharma, and diplomats from six countries – Fiji, Mongolia, Russia, Latvia, Sri Lanka, and Suriname. Before the event, the Chief Minister conversed with the youth and urged them to make yoga a part of their daily routine and move toward a healthier life. While noting the pivotal role of Bhararisain in yoga, spirituality, and policy-making, he described the location as a center of Uttarakhand's cultural heritage and natural beauty.

Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], June 22 (ANI): Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel graced the state-level celebration of the 11th International Yoga Day, which was held at Sharmishtha Lake in Vadnagar, the ancestral hometown of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a release said. The event was organised under the theme 'Yog for One Earth, One Health,' reflecting Gujarat's vision of a 'Healthy Gujarat--obesity-free Gujarat.' As per the official statement, Gujarat achieved a remarkable milestone on this Yog Day by setting a new Guinness World Record, with 2,121 Yog practitioners performing Bhujangasana simultaneously at the iconic Sharmishtha Lake in Vadnagar under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. This achievement adds to Gujarat's growing list of global recognitions, as the state had previously secured two prestigious records -- in 2023, during the 9th International Yog Day in Surat, 1.50 lakh people performed Yog together, and on 1st January 2024, 50,000 participants performed Surya Namaskar simultaneously across 108 locations. Both feats have been officially recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel participated in the Yog Day celebrations held in Vadnagar. He was joined by Health Minister Rushikesh Patel, MLAs from Mehsana district, the District Panchayat President, the Municipal President, Gujarat Yog Board Chairman Sheeshpal Rajput, along with other dignitaries and officials. Everyone at the event watched the live telecast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's inspiring address from Visakhapatnam. Extending greetings on this occasion, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel stated that yoga is a timeless aspect of India's ancient culture, a priceless gift to all of humanity. It is through the visionary leadership and consistent efforts of PM Modi that this ancient tradition has received global recognition, with the United Nations declaring International Yoga Day a worldwide celebration. Highlighting that this year marks the 11th International Yog Day since its inception in 2015, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel stated that Yog is not merely a form of exercise but an art of living. He emphasised that yoga is a science that unites the body, mind, and spirit with focus and balance. Through the regular practice of yoga, individuals can experience stress relief, enhanced immunity, and a more positive outlook on life. Moreover, yoga teaches self-discipline, restraint, and inner awakening. CM further mentioned that approximately 1.5 crore people across the state--from municipal corporations to village panchayats--participated in collective yoga sessions to mark the 11th International Yoga Day. He also made a special reference to the completion of 11 years of successful governance under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting the Prime Minister's efforts in promoting public health, from the widespread adoption of yoga to the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme. He added that, thanks to the inspiration and persistent efforts of Prime Minister, India's ancient legacy of yoga and pranayama has now become an integral part of daily life for people across the globe. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel stated that we must collectively resolve to build a 'Healthy Gujarat, Obesity-Free Gujarat' while honouring our cultural heritage and ancient traditions. He emphasised the need to transform Yog -- rooted in our ancient legacy -- into a mass movement as part of the broader vision of creating a developed, healthy, and prosperous Gujarat for Viksit Bharat in 2047. Health Minister Rushikesh Patel remarked that Pranayam has been deeply interwoven in our daily lives since ancient times. He stated that yoga and pranayama not only contribute to physical well-being but also keep the body energised. He further added that PM Modi has remarkably brought the ideals of yoga -- along with our literature and cultural heritage -- to global attention, establishing their value in promoting health. The Minister also highlighted that the world is now ready to embrace our ancient customs and traditions rooted in our rich history and culture. Let us honour our ancient heritage by making yoga a part of our daily lives and moving towards a healthier, balanced future. Chairman of the Gujarat State Yog Board, Sheeshpal Rajput, delivered the welcome address. He elaborated on how yoga connects the practitioner not just to physical wellness, but also to mental and spiritual well-being. The event was graced by the presence of District Panchayat President Trusha Patel, Member of Parliament Haribhai Patel, MLAs Kirit Patel, Sardar Chaudhary, and Mukesh Patel, Chairman of Dudhsagar Dairy Ashok Chaudhary, eminent personality Girish Rajgor, Principal Secretary M. Thennarasan, District Collector S.K. Prajapati Ravindra Khatale, Municipal Commissioner, District Development Officer Dr. Hasrat Jasmine, and Resident Additional Collector Jashvant K. SAMBALPUR/ANGUL/ROURKELA: The ancient practice of yoga has transformed into a global movement, said Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday. Taking part in the 11th International Yoga Day celebrations held near Maa Samaleswari Temple and Mahanadi riverfront in the city, the union minister performed yoga alongside students from schools and universities, volunteers, members of social organisations, institutional representatives, and officials from the district administration. Pradhan emphasised yoga's benefits for health and well-being, particularly in combating lifestyle diseases. 'A healthy lifestyle through regular yoga practice is essential. That's why the National Education Policy places special focus on the physical and mental wellness of both students and teachers,' he said. State Panchayati Raj, Rural Development, and Drinking Water minister Rabi Narayan Naik also joined the union minister in the yoga session. Health and Parliamentary Affairs minister Mukesh Mahaling took part in Yoga Day celebrations at the high school ground in Angul. The event saw participation from MLAs Pratap Pradhan, Agasti Behera, and Ashok Mohanty, along with senior state officials and a large number of students.
