Pinoy spouses, children say goodbye to deported Chinese POGO workers
Filipino spouses and children bid farewell to Chinese loved ones who are Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) workers being deported back to China.
In Saleema Refran's Tuesday report on '24 Oras,' alias 'Jacque' expressed worry for the Chinese father of her six-month-old baby.
She said she plans to follow her partner to China. But for other Filipinos, it may be the last time they will see their Chinese loved ones.
'Bigyan po sila ng chance kung wala naman pong case na kasangkot ng mga iligal ganun. Pagbigyan po na mapalaya po,' alias 'Marie' said.
(Give them a chance if they are not involved in illegal activities. I hope they will be freed.)
At least 100 Chinese citizens are being deported to Shanghai, China. They were nabbed during the anti-POGO operation in scam hubs in Cebu, Cavite, Parañaque, and Pasay.
The Chinese government paid for their fare to China without any layovers.
'Importante ito sa kanila dahil marami silang nakukuhang impormasyon dito sa bosses especially kung paano sila nag ooperate, saan sila nag ooperate at anu-anong mga sistema sa money laundering,' Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) executive director Gilbert Cruz.
(This is important to them since they get information about the bosses, especially on how and where they operate, and their system in money laundering.)
Once the deported POGO workers return to China, they will undergo a thorough investigation since some were allegedly involved in large-scale crimes, where many fell victim to different scam hubs allegedly from the Philippines.
These cases involved cybercrime, scamming, fraud, and money laundering.
'Ang pinag-uusapan natin dito, billions of dollars. Yung isang na-turn over natin na wanted person sa kanila, umaabot sa P900 billion ang kanyang nakulimbat o na money launder doon sa kanilang bansa,' Cruz said.
(We're talking about billions of dollars. One person we turned over is a wanted person for a money laundering case in their country, which amounted to P900 billion.)
The PAOCC said since the crackdown on POGO hubs was launched in 2023, about 4,000 people were arrested of whom 2,500 are foreigners deported to their respective countries.
Meanwhile, the Bureau of Immigration said it has fixed the delay in the other arrested POGO workers' deportation process.
'Ang main difficulty na lang natin ngayon hindi na yung NBI clearance. Dati kasi medjo ilang buwan pa yung binibilang, ngayon isang araw na lang. Ang magiging challenge ngayon, yung kanilang pasaporte,' BI spokersperson Dana Sandoval said.

PH accuses China ships of aggressive maneuvers in Scarborough Shoal
The Philippines accused Chinese Coast Guard ships on Friday of carrying out aggressive maneuvers and targeting its fisheries vessels with water cannons while they were delivering supplies to Filipino fishermen at the disputed Scarborough Shoal on Friday. One of the four Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) vessels involved in the mission was briefly struck by a water cannon, while another evaded being hit, the Philippine Coast Guard said in a statement. ''At approximately 10 a.m., BRP Datu Taradapit faced aggressive maneuvers from the Chinese Coast Guard vessel CCG-4203, which approached within 600 yards and fired a water cannon from 15.6 nautical miles southwest of Panatag (Scarborough) Shoal,'' the PCG said. ''Despite these aggressive actions, including blocking maneuvers and a water cannon attack that briefly struck the port quarter of BRP Datu Taradapit, the vessel adeptly maneuvered away to avoid significant damage. At 10:30 a.m., CCG-3105 targeted BRP Datu Tamblot with a water cannon from a distance of 18.1 nautical miles southeast of the shoal, but the attack missed its mark,'' it added. The PCG said it monitored six China Coast Guard vessels, two PLA Navy warships, and multiple Chinese maritime militia vessels during the operation. It also said the BFAR was able to distribute fuel subsidies to over 20 local fishing boats. ''Despite the unprofessional and illegal actions of the Chinese Coast Guard, which endangered Filipino crew members and fishermen, BFAR vessels remained resolute in their mission to protect local fishing boats,'' the PCG said. Scarborough Shoal, which is also referred to as Bajo de Masinloc or Panatag Shoal, is a triangular coral reef formation that surrounds a lagoon and is famed for its rich marine resources. The shoal is located 124 nautical miles off Masinloc, Zambales, and is considered within the Philippines' 200-nautical mile exclusive economic zone, based on the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). In 2016, the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague ruled in favor of the Philippines over China's claims in the South China Sea, saying that it had "no legal basis." PH raises alert level 3 in Israel and Iran, orders voluntary repatriation

Filipinos there should consider getting themselves and their dependents repatriated to avoid getting caught in the middle of ongoing clashes, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said in a statement. Crisis level 3 or voluntary repatriation phase is imposed by the Philippine government on countries with deteriorating security conditions. At least 30,000 workers, mostly caregivers, are in Israel, and more than 1,000 are in Iran. "All overseas Filipinos in Israel and Iran are enjoined to return to the Philippines," the DFA said. "Travel by Filipinos to both these countries is highly discouraged due to the ongoing crisis and the actual closure of their airspace and seaports." Those who wish to leave were advised by the DFA to contact the embassy to coordinate their repatriation. Security alert advisories, the DFA said, "will be subject to periodic review, taking into consideration the situation on the ground." Israel and Iran have traded missile strikes for a week, trapping civilians and foreign nationals on both sides of the conflict, triggering international alarm. NRDC chief urges climate partnership at Cebu forum
At the Climate Solutions Forum in Cebu on June 18, 2025, new Natural Resources Development Corporation (NRDC) President and CEO Benjamin Turgano delivered his first policy speech, urging local governments, universities, and businesses to unite behind a bold plan for regenerative development. The event was organized by the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) in partnership with the German Embassy Manila, where around 80 leaders from government, local businesses, embassies, and German companies gathered. It aimed to showcase real-world solutions in clean energy, circular economy, and climate resilience. In his speech, Turgano said the Philippines sits at a defining moment for environmental action. 'We convene today at a critical inflection point in our nation's and the world's ecological and development history… to re‑imagine, re‑calibrate, and re‑commit to the singular goal of safeguarding life while enabling prosperity,' he said. Turgano unveiled a 'Seven‑Pillar Convergence Agenda' to guide long-term climate solutions across regions. These pillars serve as anchors for cross‑sectoral partnerships that leverage science, policy, and community empowerment,' he said. The plan pushes for deeper regional action in areas such as carbon trading, clean energy micro‑grids, coastal resource stewardship, watersheds, mine site recovery, waste-to-energy infrastructure, and green business incubation in schools. He highlighted the importance of public lands as places that both earn revenue and restore nature. 'Every peso invested in public lands is not only generating financial return, but simultaneously producing ecological goods, restored soil fertility, flood control, water security, carbon sequestration, habitat restoration, biodiversity recovery, and community resilience,' he said. Turgano also proposed a 'National Coalition for Sustainability and Regeneration' to turn short-term projects into long-lasting, measurable collaborations among all sectors. 'What we are confronting is not merely an environmental challenge. It is a profound test of our national character… Will we finally rise to become what our people have always had the capacity to be? A nation whose prosperity flows not from depletion, but from renewal,' he said, The forum also spotlighted Cebu's role as a key economic center outside Manila. Turgano urged Visayas and Mindanao to lead by example. 'We know that the tools exist. That the science is already here. That technologies are emerging… That people are ready to participate,' he said, His message: Regions must champion regenerative growth, and combining economic opportunity with ecological stewardship. 'Sustainability requires sustained efforts and sustained alliances. Again, we humbly invite you. Let us embrace the Seven Pillar Convergence Agenda and help establish the National Coalition for Sustainability and Regeneration… In the name of the Filipino people… let us build the regenerative republic and let us build a better world,' he said.
