Body of Charkhi Dadri youth found in Canada, family demands probe
The family of 22-year-old Sahil Kumar, whose body was found in a Lake in Canada, has urged the Canadian government to probe the death from murder angle.
Sahil Kumar, of Charkhi Dadri's Dohka village, went to Canada on a study visa in April and enrolled in Humber College. He went to college on May 17 after which he went missing. His uncle Mukesh Kumar said the Hamilton police had recovered the body of Sahil from a lake on May 27 and later his identification was done.
'We can't accept that he drowned to death because he was a good swimmer. His body will be brought back to India within two days. We urge the Indian government to raise the issue with their Canadian counterpart. The government should provide some financial assistance to the family as his father Harish Kumar, a retired army personnel, spent his entire savings of ₹40 lakh in sending him abroad,' he added.

247 DNA matches completed, 232 bodies handed over

The figure is higher than the 241 persons who died onboard the aircraft, including 229 passengers and 12 crew members. The crash had only a lone survivor in Vishwash Kumar Ramesh who miraculoulsy escaped even as several lives were lost on the ground. The 247 deceased identified so far through the DNA matching process include 175 Indian nationals, 52 British nationals, 7 Portuguese nationals, and one Canadian national. It also includes 12 non-passengers. Dr Rakesh Joshi, medical superintendent of Civil Hospital, said that 232 mortal remains have been handed over to the relatives for last rites so far. "Of the 15 bodies whose DNA has been completed, three bodies have not been received by families as they await DNA match of other family members lost in the plane crash. Six bodies have been prepared for being handed over to their families for the onward journey while families of six victims are expected to arrive on Sunday to claim the mortal remains," he said. "Out of the total, 23 mortal remains have been flown out of the city, whereas the rest are transported to crematoriums or their native places by road." Sources said that based on the figures released earlier, out of 61 foreign nationals on the flight, 60 have been identified, whereas the identification of a British national is still awaited. The process is taking longer due to the nature of the samples, which are highly charred, and extraction of DNA is difficult. However, the teams have managed to use the technology to the optimum and improve the detection rate significantly even in challenging cases," said a state official.

Afghan national living illegally in Cuttack arrested at BPIA
Bhubaneswar: Immigration authorities arrested an Afghan national at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) here on Saturday. The accused, Mohammad Yousaf (54), was apprehended upon arrival from Dubai on an IndiGo flight. He was living in Cuttack under a false identity for several years. DSP (immigration) Samapika Patnaik lodged a police complaint against Yousaf. Yousaf, who was posing as an Indian citizen under the name Yaha Khan, was caught when immigration officials detected discrepancies in his documents during routine verification. A lookout circular (LOC) issued by Kolkata airport aided in his identification. Based on preliminary investigation, city police said Yousaf illegally entered India in 2018 and since then established a sophisticated network of fraudulent documents, including an Indian passport, Aadhaar card, PAN card, voter ID and driving licence. He was residing in Cuttack, while conducting business operations under his assumed identity. During searches, authorities seized multiple fake identity documents, Indian and foreign currency, a mobile phone, gold jewellery, and around Rs 80,000 in cash. Bank documents under his false identity were also recovered. "His intention behind using fake documents to reside in Odisha is being verified. Some Afghan nationals known to him have been doing sari business for long. But we are investigating all angles," said police commissioner S Dev Dutta Singh. The accused has been remanded in judicial custody while investigation continues to uncover the full extent of his activities, police said.

Three booked for 67L visa fraud in Mota Varachha
Surat: Utran police have booked three persons for allegedly duping at least seven people of Rs 67 lakh under the pretext of securing foreign work and student visas. The accused — Nikunj Dudhat, Chirag Vataliya, and Ankit Vasani — were operating a consultancy firm named Gravitate Overseas Immigration from Mota Varachha. The complaint was filed by Darshit Patel, a bank employee who alleged that the trio promised him a Canadian work permit visa for Rs 25 lakh. Patel came across the firm's Instagram page in July 2023 and visited their office, where he was persuaded to pay Rs 5 lakh as an advance. He received no official receipt, only a WhatsApp message confirming the payment. When no visa materialised, Patel was allegedly offered a New Zealand visa instead for Rs 18 lakh, for which he paid another Rs 5 lakh. After repeated delays and no results, Patel suspected fraud and returned to the office, where he encountered other victims with similar complaints. According to police, the accused cheated multiple clients with false promises and collected large sums of money without delivering any visa services. Other victims include Pinkesh Patel (Rs 11 lakh), Maulik Virani (Rs 10 lakh), Chirag Paladiya (Rs 5 lakh), Darshit Vachhani (Rs 13 lakh), Jaydeep Barochiya (Rs 9 lakh), and Akshay Patel (Rs 9.50 lakh). Further investigation is underway.
