In the whirlwind of drama that has followed Megxit and the persistent public spats that have been largely one-sided in the divide between the Sussexes and The Firm, one royal has stood out, keeping a dignified silence.
Sophie has been hailed as a pillar of stability for the monarchy, celebrating 26 years since she tied the knot with Prince Edward.
As a former PR consultant, the 60-year-old Countess holds invaluable understanding of the pressures involved in becoming part of the royal family. This insight has been key to supporting Kate Middleton's journey from university days at St Andrews to becoming the Princess of Wales and mother to the future king among her three children.
Reports imply that Meghan Markle was less receptive to Sophie's advice. Insiders suggest the Duchess of Edinburgh was sought to ease Meghan's shift from Hollywood to full-time royal duties.

However, the Duchess of Sussex preferred to rely on Prince Harry, believing there was no need for additional guidance with him by her side, according to the Daily Mail. Sophie's reported reaction to questions about "stepping in" for Harry and Meghan post-Megxit was deadpan: "What did people think we were doing beforehand?"
Yet, it is another remark by Sophie that truly reflects her grace. Reflecting on Harry and Meghan during an interview with The Telegraph following their explosive conversation with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, Sophie's comment was simple yet poignant: "I just hope they will be happy."
Notably, neither the Duke nor Duchess of Sussex has publicly spoken out against Sophie or her husband Prince Edward, 61, Harry's uncle. When questioned about the couple's decision to step back from royal life in 2021, Edward revealed that he "stayed out of it," adding, "We wish them the very best of luck. It's a really hard decision."

Sophie has recently been highlighted as an example of the type of royal Meghan could have become, particularly due to her tireless advocacy for women's rights. She recently spoke out about the plight of women who become pregnant as a result of rape, with royal expert Richard Fitzwilliam commenting that this was the kind of event at which Meghan should have excelled.
He commented: "Meghan is struggling to be an influencer; Sophie has influence in ways that really matter, which Meghan could have been. Meghan has always boasted about how she promotes feminism.
"Yet contrast the occasional speech she makes in comfortable surroundings with the remarkable work of Sophie, who actually visits areas of the world such as Sudan and Chad that have been devastated by war and attempts to comfort the women who are victims of rape and exploitation.
"If Meghan had seriously wanted to make a difference, she should surely have remained a senior working royal. It does involve compromise, but think what could have been achieved for an important cause she claims is so dear to her heart."

Prince William's 'sad' new attitude to Harry feud as he marks new milestone

Prince William is celebrating his 43rd birthday - and friends reportedly say as he approaches the milestone, he has let go of his anger towards his younger brother Prince Harry and is in a 'healthier space' It's no secret that relations between Prince William and Prince Harry are still icy. The once-inseparable brothers have had a strained relationship since Harry and Meghan decided to leave life in the UK, and as working royals, behind and start afresh across the pond. ‌ The many public statements the couple made about their time inside the monarchy - and the allegations they have made against other senior royals and their staff, have compounded the existing distance between the brothers. ‌ Prince William - a famously private man - is celebrating his 43rd birthday, leaving behind what he has called a "brutal" year that was one of the "hardest" he has experienced. With both his father King Charles and his wife, Princess Kate, going through cancer treatment, William had to walk a delicate balancing act: supporting his family behind closed doors, whilst still keeping up with as much of his royal duties as possible during this time of personal hardship, all whilst under the huge amount of scrutiny that comes with being part of the House of Windsor. A source has revealed to the Sunday Times that these challenges aren't the only thing William is leaving behind as he turns 43 - he has also learned to let go of his "anger" towards his younger brother. After the release of Harry's bombshell memoir Spare - in which he accused his older brother of physically assaulting him in Kensington Palace in 2019, during a disagreement over Meghan - William was reported by pals to be "burning" with rage over the book, which broke records for copies sold. However, these days, just over two years on from Spare's release, it's a completely different story, a friend has revealed. ‌ "What has struck me the most recently is that he just doesn't mention it at all," the source was quoted as saying. 'It used to be that the family stuff was taking up a lot of space in his head, it was a very close relationship and he was very upset. But he's not letting it get to him at all anymore. It is a change. It's sad, but it's a much healthier space for him to be at." ‌ Harry recently publicly appealed for reconciliation with his family admitting that his father Charles "won't speak" to him over his row with the Home Office regarding the removal of his automatic police security. The Duke of Sussex also claimed in the sit down with the BBC that he doesn't "know how much longer my father has" and noted that he knew "some members of my family will never forgive me for writing a book. Of course, they will never forgive me for lots of things." Recent reports that Meghan and Harry want their two children Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four, to have the royal style of 'HRH' are also reported by the Sunday Times to be confusing to royal insiders. The Sussexes are reported to want these styles so their children can choose to be working royals in the future if they want, but "under the next reign, roles for Archie and Lili as working royals are unlikely."

Meghan Markle 'terrified' and scared for future as regretful Harry makes major decision over UK return

Meghan Markle is 'scared' to return to the UK and Harry is a 'huge target' Trooping the Colour 2025 marked another significant blow to relations within the Royal Family as Prince Harry steered clear. The Duke of Sussex was not in attendance at last weekend's celebration of the King's official birthday. Queen Camilla joined Charles, as well as Prince William, Kate Middleton and their children George,11, Charlotte,10, and seven year old Louis. Harry was last in the UK in May, where he suffered defeat at the High Court over his ongoing battle to have security measures reinstated for him and his family when they visit from the US. ‌ The Duke of Sussex then gave an interview, where he revealed he hoped to reunite with his father but he couldn't bring his family to the UK until wife Meghan Markle and kids Archie, two, and Lilibet, four, were guaranteed to be 'safe'. ‌ Now a royal expert claims it's not likely the youngsters will ever build up a close relationship with their cousins, or spend much time in the UK, because of Harry and Meghan's worries, writes the Mirror. Former royal editor Duncan Larcombe said: 'Meghan understandably feels scared about coming to the UK with the children. 'The threats are real and genuine. The threat is from lunatics, radical protesters that might want to make a name for themselves by jumping in front of them. Then of course you have the worst type, the terrorist threat. And there's no doubt Harry – and his family, as a result – is a huge target.' Former actress Meghan recently embarked on a change of direction in her career, with her recent eight-part Netflix show With Love, Meghan topping charts across the globe. Earlier today, she took to social media to share her delight as her lifestyle brand As Ever products once again sold out in minutes following an announcement of a restock earlier this week. ‌ She's also been pictured in recent months enjoying a Beyonce gig and shared intimate family moments from a holiday to Disneyland in a reel of posts to Instagram. Earlier this month she and Harry hit the headlines once again as they shared their viral Baby Momma dance clip which was filmed when she went into labour with Lilibet. But despite Meghan feeling 'stronger' than ever and sharing fun parts of her life with fans, she's still hugely worried about the safety of her nearest and dearest. ‌ A source told the Mirror: 'In some ways she's feeling stronger and she wants to share that. 'But she's still terrified of putting her kids at risk by coming back to the UK – any parent would panic if they were in Meghan's shoes. 'So even though Harry is really feeling the absence of his dad, especially after Trooping the Colour and Father's Day, the security stuff will probably always be an issue. ‌ 'He knows that things could've been so different if things had gone another way, but it's been five years since they left the UK and the chances of them coming back, even for a visit, seem slim to none. It's heartbreaking.' In May, Harry gave a controversial interview with the BBC in which he said he 'would love reconciliation' with his family. ‌ Duncan Larcombe reckons that the duke is probably 'full of regrets' now about being so candid. He added: 'Harry is a sensitive soul and always wore his heart on his sleeve, so whether he'd admit it publicly or not, I'm sure he's full of regrets and wishes he'd done things differently. ‌ 'With Trooping the Colour and Father's Day falling on the same weekend, it was bound to make him look back at the happy relationships he once had with his brother and dad, and I'm sure he'd love to be able to rebuild those.' Duncan also states that Princess Diana's death is something that is an ever-present thought for Meghan and Harry, as a 'contributing factor' to her horror crash in Paris in 1997 was the lack of official protection from the Metropolitan Police. The expert explains that official royal security is armed and round the clock, provided by top Met Police officers as well as MI5, who 'surround them in a ring'. He added: 'Without the official support and security, Harry and Meghan are left with two or three bodyguards who are pretty blind to what the potential threats are.'
