Aiation oversight revamp: DGCA rolls out ‘360-degree' special audits; multi-disciplinary teams to inspect airlines, airports, MROs

AI image Seeking to plug systemic safety gaps exposed by recent accidents, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has introduced a special-audit framework that promises a 360-degree evaluation of India's entire aviation ecosystem, replacing the existing 'silo' style of inspections. In a circular dated June 19, the regulator said the new mechanism transcends the current domain-wise checks undertaken by separate directorates and 'will focus on examining safety-management systems, operational practices and regulatory adherence across all aviation domains.' The initiative comes a week after the fatal crash of an Air India Ahmedabad–London Gatwick flight shortly after take-off, which killed all 241 people on board along with several on the ground, PTI reported. The special audits cover: All operators: scheduled, non-scheduled and private airlines MROs : maintenance, repair and overhaul organisations Training entities: approved training organisations (ATOs) and flying training organisations (FTOs) Air-navigation and airports: the Airports Authority's ANSP wing, aerodrome operators and ground-handling agencies These checks, DGCA said, will be in addition to the routine audits in its annual surveillance programme. Multi-disciplinary teams Each special audit will be led by a senior official at the level of Deputy Director-General or Director, backed by experts drawn from Flight Standards, Air Safety, Airworthiness, Licensing, Aerodrome Standards and Air Navigation Services. The risk-based, integrated approach should 'proactively identify systemic vulnerabilities, enhance resilience and ensure strict adherence to ICAO standards,' the circular noted. Traditionally, DGCA's oversight functions were 'conducted in silos, with different directorates performing inspections specific to their domains,' the circular said. The new framework will 'generate a 360-degree evaluation' that highlights both strengths and weaknesses of the sector. India is among the world's fastest-growing aviation markets, making the overhaul critical for sustaining safety as traffic rises, the regulator added. Air India now cuts single aisle flights by 5% 'at least' till mid July

NEW DELHI: After a 15% cut in wide body flights, Air India Sunday said it is temporarily reducing narrow body operations by about 5% till at least July 15, 2025. AI uses its Airbus A320 family of single aisles mostly on domestic and nearby international routes. Three daily flights — between Bengaluru & Singapore (AI 2392/2393), Pune & Singapore (AI 2111/2110) and Mumbai & Bagdogra (AI 551/552) — have been suspended till July 15. 'This voluntary decision leads to the temporary suspension of Air India's services on three routes and reduction of frequency on 19 routes. The changes are effective until at least July 15, 2025. These reductions are aimed at strengthening Air India's network-wide operational stability and minimising last-minute inconvenience to passengers. Despite these temporary reductions, Air India will continue to operate close to 600 daily flights with its narrowbody aircraft on 120 domestic and short-haul international routes,' AI said in a statement. 'Air India apologises to the passengers affected by these curtailments and is proactively contacting affected passengers to offer re-accommodation on alternative flights, complimentary rescheduling or full refunds as per their preferences…. We remain committed to restoring our full schedule as soon as practicable, while at all times prioritising the safety of our passengers, crew and aircraft,' it added. Cover letters are dead: Ex-LinkedIn recruiter says this one document can land you a job faster

Former Microsoft recruiter Maddie Machado urges job seekers to ditch traditional cover letters in favour of a 'brag doc'—a curated document of career wins. Highlighting impact, achievements, and alignment with company goals, it helps candidates stand out to hiring managers. Machado says it's more effective than a resume for showcasing what makes you truly valuable. Career strategist and former Microsoft recruiter Maddie Machado says cover letters are dead and recommends a 'brag doc' instead. This slide-style document showcases your key wins, personal strengths, and real impact at work. (Inage: iStock) Tired of too many ads? Remove Ads What Makes a 'Brag Doc' So Powerful? Tired of too many ads? Remove Ads What Hiring Managers Actually Want to Know More Than Just an Interview Tool In the ever-evolving job market , traditional cover letters may no longer be the golden ticket to your dream job. Career strategist Maddie Machado , a former recruiter for Microsoft Meta , and LinkedIn , is flipping the script on outdated hiring norms with a single piece of advice: keep a 'brag doc.' This isn't your average resume—it's a personalised playbook of your professional journey that showcases not just what you've done, but how well you did it.'Even when I was a recruiter for so many years, I can count on maybe one hand how many times I actually read a cover letter,' Machado revealed while talking with CNBC Make It. Her solution? A self-curated document that highlights real results and career wins in a way hiring managers can't brag doc, according to Machado, is a live record of every career milestone: from simple kudos to major contributions. It has helped her ace interviews for over a decade. First created in a Microsoft document, then maintained in a running email draft, she now keeps it as a dynamic slide presentation—ready to send or discuss at a moment's method is built around four core areas: identifying your natural strengths, showcasing the impact of your work, highlighting standout accomplishments, and tailoring your value to align with potential employers. Machado calls these your 'corporate superpowers.''It's a time to toot your own horn,' she explains, noting that a resume often fails to capture the real substance of a candidate's work. 'It's hard to see on your resume the amount of impact and the things that you actually owned and are actually proud of.'Based on her experience working with top tech giants, Machado shares that recruiters already understand the tasks tied to your current role. What they want to know is the value you can bring into their organisation. 'What is something that wouldn't have happened if you weren't there?' she prompts. The brag doc answers that question with confidence and you're reaching out on LinkedIn, applying directly, or preparing for salary negotiations, the brag doc becomes a strategic asset. It helps cut through the noise, makes your personal brand clear, and offers hiring managers a glimpse of your potential impact.'It's nice to be able to remind yourself what you've accomplished so far, whether it's big or small,' Machado says, adding that it can be a morale boost as much as a networking about writing generic introductions and buzzword-filled summaries. If you're serious about standing out, consider building a brag doc that reflects your true professional story. As Machado puts it, 'This is how you show them what you can do—not just tell them.'
