Himachal Pradesh weather: IMD forecasts rain, hailstorms across state for next three days
Over the last 24 hours, various parts of Himachal Pradesh have experienced rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and hailstorms. This bout of extreme weather comes after nearly three consecutive days of unstable conditions affecting almost all districts, including rainfall, hail, and snowfall in higher altitudes. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that this wet spell will continue for the next three days.

A weather alert has been issued by the IMD for rain, hailstorms, thunderstorms, and lightning across most districts of Himachal Pradesh, with Lahaul-Spiti being the only exception.
"In the last 24 hours, light to moderate rain has been recorded in most parts of Himachal Pradesh. Hailstorms have also been reported from a few areas," said Sandeep Kumar Sharma, Senior Scientist at the Meteorological Centre, Shimla, while speaking to ANI.
He added that Bilaspur received the highest rainfall with 74 mm, followed by Kandaghat in Solan district with 67 mm. Hailstorms were reported in Shimla and Kasauli, and strong winds were recorded at several stations.
Looking ahead, the IMD forecast indicates the possibility of light to moderate rain in the plains and mid-hill regions from May 5 to May 8, while higher reaches are likely to witness snowfall. These weather activities are expected to persist over the next 4 to 5 days.

Additionally, night-time thunderstorms and gusty winds are likely between May 5 and May 9, particularly in Chamba, Kangra, Una, Bilaspur, and Hamirpur districts. Isolated hailstorms are expected in Shimla, Kullu, Mandi, Solan, Sirmaur, and Kangra. In view of this, alerts have been issued for May 5 and 6.
After May 9, a decrease in weather activity is anticipated. However, light rain may still occur in a few places in the mid-hill districts on May 10 and 11.
In terms of temperature, Una recorded the highest maximum temperature at 35.2 degrees Celsius, while Keylong in Lahaul-Spiti reported the lowest minimum temperature at 4.2 degrees Celsius. Overall, temperatures across Himachal Pradesh have been 2 to 3 degrees Celsius below normal.
In Shimla, the daytime temperature was around 22degrees Celsius, which is 2 degrees below normal. In Solan, the maximum temperature was 30degrees Celsius, which is a significant 10 degrees below normal, while Mandi recorded 27.8degrees Celsius, about 5 degrees below average.
Weather conditions are expected to become active again from this evening, with increased cloud cover and consistently lower-than-average temperatures expected to persist.
According to IMD data, rainfall for the month of May so far has been 22% above normal across the state. However, some districts, including Kullu and Lahaul-Spiti, have received below-average rainfall, while six districts have recorded above-normal rainfall, and the rest are close to average.
The IMD has maintained a hailstorm alert for May 5 and 6 in districts including Shimla, Kangra, and Mandi. Thunderstorms are expected to continue across the state (excluding Lahaul-Spiti) over the next five days, with intermittent clear weather periods. However, light to moderate rainfall will persist in many areas, and gusty winds may occur in some districts.

As per IMD report, heavy rainfall at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya was recorded in last 24 hours till 8:30 am on Saturday. However, in the corresponding period, Meghalaya and Tripura received normal rainfall, whereas rest of the NE states either received deficient rainfall or large deficient rainfall. IMD stated that light to moderate rainfall at many/most places accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue over northeast India during next seven days. Overall, in the month of May, the northeast has experienced good amount of rainfall ranging from normal to large excess rainfall. As per IMD, Assam received 334.7 mm, Arunachal Pradesh (303.3 mm), Tripura (378.7 mm) and Mizoram (289.2 mm) received rainfall in the normal range in May so far, whereas Nagaland received excess rainfall (242.4 mm). Meghalaya (753.1) and Manipur (296.5 mm) received large excess rainfall in May as per IMD records.

IMD issues extremely heavy to very heavy rainfall warning across several states
Pune: India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday issued a comprehensive rainfall warning of extremely heavy to very heavy rainfall (red and orange alerts) across several states over the next week. Heavy precipitation exceeding 200mm in 24 hours has been forecast for isolated areas of Madhya Pradesh on June 23, with Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Gujarat expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall till June 27. According to the forecast, northwest India is set to experience significant rainfall from June 21-27. Heavy showers are expected in Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and east Rajasthan throughout the period. Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh are likely to receive heavy rainfall from June 21-26, with intense precipitation likely in Uttar Pradesh till June 24. Delhi can expect heavy rainfall on June 22-23. City may receive rain over next few days
Chennai: The workweek ended on a wet note for several suburban localities, which recorded the highest rainfall in the state on Friday evening, with thunderstorms bringing 4cm-5 cm of rain. Meteorologists and bloggers say that daily evening rainfall with thunderstorms is likely in the city and suburbs over the next few days. On Sunday, after a hot day with temperatures inching close to 40°C, light to moderate rainfall may occur over the city and surrounding areas. "Friday's thunderstorms were triggered by wind convergence caused by sea breeze meeting heat-built land temperatures and moisture-laden westerlies. If similar conditions persist, more evening showers are likely," said a meteorologist. The IMD has warned of discomfort in parts of the state due to high humidity and heat. "There are chances of evening thunderstorms daily, but these will likely be isolated spells," said weather blogger Pradeep John. On Saturday, city temperatures dropped slightly after a warm spell since June 17, with Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam recording 35.5°C and 35.7°C, about 1.5°C below normal. Humidity levels also dropped, from 67%-69% at 8.30 am to 45-%-67% by 5.30 pm. Friday's sharp evening spell, after days of dry and hot weather, brought 2.4 mm of rainfall in Nungambakkam and 14.8 mm in Meenambakkam. Since June 1, Chennai recorded 61.5 mm of rainfall, about 43% above normal. This includes 76.9 mm in Nungambakkam (24.7 mm excess) and 18.2 mm in Meenambakkam (36.1 mm deficit). Tamil Nadu, during the same period, recorded 42.2 mm, about 14% above normal.
