‘Old head on very young shoulders': Dinesh Karthik reveals Sai Sudharsan's off-field preps after Test debutant takes notes before batting

A duck did not deter Sai Sudharsan from keeping his preparatory and visualisation regimes intact for the second innings on his his Test debut against England at Leeds on Sunday. If anything, it only get better as the young no. 3 waited of his turn to bat as openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul strode out with India only holding a six-run lead.
Desperate to make amends and avoid a dubious pair, Sudharsan was seen taking down notes on a live broadcast as fellow southpaw Jaiswal and senior batter Rahul negotiated the new, dark Dukes ball.
The left-handed batter was also spotted following the ball, visualising with his helmet on. Sudharsan was seen lifting the ball and raising it before his eyes, and moving it sideways while keeping track of the path.
Sudharsan's Tamil Nadu statemate and former India wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik revealed that the Gujarat Titans batter follows a strict and elaborate off-field preparatory regime ahead of games.
'I'm pretty sure he writes a journal. He is someone who has a very old head on very young shoulders. He does a lot of things off the field, like meditation, plenty of yoga, and has a very long warm-up regime as well. He is a man who is ready to shine on this international scene. In the limited opportunities that he has had in ODI, he has done really well, and now he has got his opportunity in Test cricket as well,' Karthik remarked.
After being caught down leg by the wicket-keeper for a duck in the first innings, Sudharsan responded with a firm 30-run knock before a booming in-swinger from England captain Ben Stokes had him flick a delivery to the mid-wicket fielder, shortly before close of play on Day 3.
'First innings, caught down the leg side, but today he looked solid. He played the part, and as luck would have it, it's not going to be easy. You need to fight it out. One innocuous shot and caught at midwicket. That's how the game goes,' said Karthik on Sky Sports.

KL Rahul firmly tells Rishabh Pant to be watchful before playing shots, wicketkeeper retorts: ‘Achhe se dekhta hoon'

Day 4 of the Leeds Test saw the calmness of KL Rahul and the madness of Rishabh Pant at the same time in the middle during the first session. Rahul, who completed his half-century, was watchful and disciplined with his approach, while Pant, on the other hand, didn't shy away from playing his usual audacious shots. The left-handed batter attempted a slog sweep to scoop shot to get the scoreboard moving, while Rahul relied on traditional textbook shots to provide stability to the innings. KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant stabilised Indian innings in first session on Day 4.(AP) The two batters were unbeaten at Lunch, and India was in a stable position at 153/3. Rahul scored an unbeaten 72, while Pant was batting on 32. The 61-run stand helped India recover from the early blow of skipper Shubman Gill, who was dismissed for 8. During their stand, Rahul played the senior batter's role with perfection and kept reminding Pant to stay calm when he was looking to play some flashy shots. A video went viral on X, where Rahul was seen telling Pant to watch the ball carefully before hitting. Rahul told Pant, 'Ball achhe se dekho.' Carse delivered a sharp, good-length ball that nipped back in off the seam, catching Gill off guard. The batter could only manage a thick inside edge, which ricocheted onto the stumps to end his stay early. England continued to create chances. Rahul was dropped by Harry Brook on 58 after reaching his 18th Test half century and Pant survived a DRS review for lbw. However, Rahul and Pant were watchful in the last half-hour of the session, playing cautiously. Weathering the early freshness of the wicket, they shared a 61-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

Jasprit Bumrah Picks Up Five-For But England Draw Parity With India By Making 465

Last Updated: Harry Brook's dismissal on 99 and Jasprit Bumrah's five-for gave India a narrow six-run lead in the first Test against England. Star England batter Harry Brook was unfortunate to be dismissed on 99 before Jasprit Bumrah bagged a well-deserved five-for, giving India a narrow six-run first innings lead. England were bowled out for 465 during an extended afternoon session on Day 3 of the first Test on Sunday, June 22. Chris Woakes tackled a predictable Indian pace attack, bringing England close to India's 471. England's tail negated India's first innings lead, leaving the game balanced on the outcomes of the third and fourth innings. England continued to find fours, adding 138 runs in less than 24 overs during the afternoon session, although they lost five wickets. Prasidh Krishna dismissed Jamie Smith and Brook with short deliveries but conceded too many runs, giving away 128 runs in 20 overs because of his 1D approach. Bowling allrounder Shardul Thakur was underutilised again, raising questions about his selection. Bumrah, the standout Indian bowler, bagged his 14th five-for in Tests, finishing with figures of 5/83 in less than 25 overs. India's fielding has been their weakest point till now in the match. Brook, having been given two opportunities, was dropped again on 82 by Yashasvi Jaiswal off Bumrah's bowling. Despite the extra chances, Brook could not complete his hundred and was dismissed on 99 in the 88th over. India took the new ball after 80 overs but couldn't utilise it. Towards the end of the session, Woakes, who has a Test century, hit successive fours off short deliveries from Krishna, one a clean smack over midwicket, the other guided to the third-man region. Earlier, Brook attacked an inconsistent Indian pace attack, leading England to 327/5 at lunch. Resuming at an overnight 209/3, Brook ensured England scored quickly, adding 118 runs in 28 overs. India claimed two vital wickets of overnight centurion Ollie Pope (106 off 137) and England skipper Ben Stokes (20 off 52). On day two, the other Indian pacers couldn't match Bumrah's accuracy. Brook, dismissed off a Bumrah no-ball at the end of day two, was dropped by wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant on 46 shortly before lunch. Jadeja, extracting a sharp turn from the rough, got one to turn away, but Pant couldn't hold on to the rising ball. In the same over, Brook completed his 12th Test fifty, adding to the Indians' frustration, who were already sloppy with their catching. Led by captain Shubman Gill, the Indians vocalised their issues with a worn-out Dukes ball throughout the session. The umpires replaced the ball before the 75th over while the new ball was due after 80 overs. Brook dominated the session with a display of bold strokeplay from the outset. Krishna bowled two loose deliveries in the first over of the day, which Brook dispatched for a boundary through point and a six over mid-wicket. Brook's aggressive approach against the pacers, including Bumrah, was notable as he charged down for aerial drives over extra cover. Krishna was fortunate in his following over to dismiss Pope, as the England number three edged a short and wide ball to the keeper. India's second breakthrough came after the first hour when Siraj had Stokes caught behind from round the wicket.

'Ate And Left': Rohit, Harbhajan Reveal India Star Came To Their Weddings Empty-Handed

Last Updated: Harbhajan Singh and Rohit Sharma humorously recalled ex-India teammate attending their weddings, enjoying himself, but leaving empty-handed. Harbhajan Singh and Rohit Sharma have called out former teammate Shikhar Dhawan for coming empty-handed to their weddings and leaving after eating, drinking, and having an 'absolute blast'. Former spinner Harbhajan married his longtime girlfriend, actress Geeta Basra, on 29 October 2015 in Jalandhar. Rohit and Ritika Sajdeh got married on December 13 in the same year in Mumbai. Dhawan was Rohit's opening partner at that time, and the duo was considered one of the most feared in white-ball cricket, having found success in an overall disappointing 2015 World Cup. 'Shikhar Dhawan came to our wedding," Harbhajan recalled on his a YouTube show with Geeta called, Who's The Boss? 'He danced a lot, ate, drank, had an absolute blast. And while leaving, he slipped in an envelope in my pocket. Maine kaha, 'ye kya kar raha hai?'. Maine woh khola na, 101 chorh, ek rupiya nahi tha. Khaali. (I said there was no need. When I opened it, forget 101 rupees, it didn't even have one rupee. It was totally empty!) In Indian culture, shagun envelopes are given as a symbol of blessings. They are generally filled with cash, accompanied by a one-rupee coin. After narrating the story, Harbhajan asked Rohit and Ritika if Dhawan gave them anything. 'Kuch nahi. Naachke, khaake, aur peeke gaya tha (Nothing. He danced, ate, drank, and just left)," Rohit replied, prompting all four of them to break into laughter. But Rohit made sure to praise Dhawan, too, calling him a 'class' person. They scored 5,148 runs together in 115 innings, making them the fourth-highest opening partnership in terms of runs in ODI history 'Woh bhi kya banda hai, class! (What a guy he his, class) From childhood, we have been playing together, and we have done a lot of tours together. Before playing for India, we had done a tour to Australia for India A," Rohit said. Dhawan retired from all forms of competitive cricket in August last year. Rohit has also hung up his T20I and Test boots but continues to be available in ODI cricket, where he's also the team captain. He's said to be hoping to remain fit for the 2027 World Cup.
