Armizan denies allegation that MADANI govt removed LPG subsidy
INANAM: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry has denied the allegation that the MADANI Government had abolished gas cylinder subsidies for food outlets using more than 42 kg of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).
Clarifying the matter, Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said premises wishing to use more than 42kg of LPG must apply for a Controlled Goods Permit under the regulations of the Control of Supplies (Amendment) Act 2021, which has been in effect since Oct 15, 2021.
Armizan stressed that any party who does not store or use LPG beyond the specified limit are not required to obtain the permit.
'Remember that the LPG subsidy amounted to RM3.4 billion last year. This subsidy is meant for public use, not business or commercial. If there are specific cases where businesses require more than 42kg of LPG, please notify me.
'We can verify whether these business premises sell items and services directly to the people at reasonable prices, especially if the cost of living is used to justify getting subsidies for their business operations.
'I don't think many eateries, let alone food stalls or burger stands, need to store or use LPG cylinders exceeding 42 kg at any one time unless they are large-scale business premises,' he told reporters after launching the Festive Season Maximum Price Control Scheme for Kaamatan and Gawai Festivals at Pisompuruan Hall, Kampung Kobuni, here, today.
Armizan said such allegations confuse the public, stressing that the issue is not a new policy or regulation under the MADANI Government but has been in effect since 2021 under the previous administration.
'They are playing on the sentiment that costs are being passed on to the public, but the LPG subsidy comes from the people's money — public funds, including taxpayers' money. It is preposterous for the public to bear all business costs, including those of large-scale enterprises,' he added.

GRS reaffirms 'Sabah First' stand, urges inter-governmental model for federal-state relations
Armizan placing his hand on a tablet to symbolically open the conference on Sunday. KOTA KINABALU (June 22): Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) has reaffirmed that the relationship between the Federal and State Governments must be based on an inter-governmental model — not driven by intra-party dynamics — to ensure Sabah's interests remain front and centre. Its deputy secretary-general, Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, said the coalition remains open to cooperation with national parties, including in the upcoming 17th Sabah State Election, but maintained that local parties must form the core of the State Government. Speaking after officiating the Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) Darau Division's annual conference on Sunday, Armizan emphasised that the political model promoted by GRS does not reject national party alliances. Instead, it advocates a structure where local parties lead at the state level, while working in partnership with national parties forming the Federal Government. 'The GRS model is about safeguarding Sabah's interests. If the same national party dominates both federal and state levels, issues involving Sabah tend to be discussed internally within the party, behind closed doors, before even reaching the negotiation table,' said Armizan, who is also the Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living. He warned that intra-party decision-making risks prioritising party interests over state welfare, citing examples where party loyalty in some national parties outweighed the needs of the people. As a case in point, he referred to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), which was sidelined for decades due to party-driven federal politics. 'Only under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim did we begin to see genuine federal commitment to MA63. But we cannot rely on individual leadership alone. What Sabah needs is a structured, institutional approach that ensures continuity beyond political cycles,' he said. Armizan said while GRS supports the national agenda, it must be led by the Federal Government, whereas the State Government must be empowered to put Sabah's priorities first. 'This is the philosophy behind our core principle — Sabah First. It ensures that the state agenda remains front and centre,' he stressed. With the state election approaching, Armizan made GRS's goal clear: to lead the State Government while supporting a Federal Government led by national parties. 'We welcome cooperation with national parties in the coming state election — provided they acknowledge that local parties should lead in Sabah, contest more seats, and have the mandate to govern.' He said the GRS-Pakatan Harapan Plus model reflects this approach, where national parties govern at the federal level, while local parties lead at the state level. 'Let national parties form the Federal Government — we will support and work with them. But in Sabah, local parties must lead. That's the essence of real partnership — a model that respects state autonomy while upholding national unity.' Armizan concluded by stressing that formalised government-to-government (G2G) engagement is key to ensuring state issues like MA63 are no longer sidelined. 'This is not just a GRS idea — it's what Sabah needs. A formalised inter-governmental framework is the only way to ensure our voices are heard, regardless of who governs Putrajaya.'

New electricity tariff reflects energy reform, says Fahmi
KUALA LUMPUR: The implementation of the new electricity tariff schedule starting July 1 is a clear reflection of the major reforms being undertaken by the government, particularly in the national energy sector, said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. Fahmi, who is also the MADANI Government spokesperson, said the initiative aligns with the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), which aims to increase the use of renewable energy (RE) and reduce carbon emissions by 2050. 'Under the new tariff schedule, 85 per cent of domestic consumers or account holders are expected to enjoy the same, or even lower, electricity rates starting July 1, 2025, provided their monthly usage does not exceed 1,000 kilowatt hours,' he said. 'This is one of the key reforms being advanced in a coordinated manner by the government, together with the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA), the Energy Commission (ST), and Tenaga Nasional Berhad. It demonstrates that efforts to implement renewal or reform can still deliver tangible benefits to the people,' he said. Fahmi said this to reporters at the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya's Kita MADANI Carnival at IWK Eco Park, Pantai Dalam, here today. Also present was Information Department director-general Julina Johan. On Friday (June 20), the ST announced that more than 23.6 million domestic users in Peninsular Malaysia will benefit from fairer and more progressive electricity rates due to the newly approved electricity tariff schedule approved by the government. ST, in a statement, said that this tariff determination will take effect from July 1, 2025, to Dec 31, 2027, under the Incentive-Based Regulation (IBR) framework, in line with the provisions of Section 26, Electricity Supply Act 1990. It said that the electricity tariff changes for the Regulatory Period 4 (RP4) involve the restructuring of the following three components, namely the average base tariff rate; the new tariff schedule; and the fuel cost adjustment mechanism. The Average Base Tariff Rate for the RP4 period has been set at 45.40 sen/kWh, slightly lower than the 45.62 sen/kWh approved in December 2024 - reflecting an overall reduction of up to 19 per cent in the average electricity tariff compared with RP3. Earlier, Fahmi, who is also the Member of Parliament for Lembah Pantai, officiated the Kita MADANI Carnival, which aims to bring the community closer to government services through a casual, informative programme that highlights current issues, policies, and initiatives in line with the Malaysia MADANI concept. The programme, among other things, featured Rahmah MADANI Sale and Agro MADANI sale, sports competitions for children, as well as exhibitions involving 21 government agencies, including counters for traffic summons payments and driving licence renewals.
