Iowa football grabs transfer portal commitment from Wake Forest QB
Iowa football has found another signal-caller for Tim Lester and the Hawkeyes to work with.
Following a recent visit to Iowa, the Hawkeyes have landed a commitment from Wake Forest transfer quarterback Jeremy Hecklinski.
A 6-foot quarterback, Hecklinski saw action in just one game last season with the Demon Deacons when he took three snaps in a 31-24 loss against North Carolina. Out of Walton High School in Marietta, Georgia, Hecklinski was the 2023 MaxPreps Georgia Player of the Year and the 2023 GPB Georgia Offensive Player of the Year.
During his senior year, Hecklinski led Walton to the Class 7A GHSA state championship game after throwing for 3,835 passing yards and 50 touchdowns against just six interceptions. Hecklinski completed 201-of-309 attempts (65.0 pct.) in 14 games played while holding a 141.9 passer rating.
When Hecklinski signed with Wake Forest, he became the Demon Deacons' highest-rated quarterback signee during the 247Sports composite era. According to 247Sports, Hecklinski was the nation's No. 25 quarterback and the No. 42 player from Georgia.
Both On3 and 247Sports rank Hecklinski as a three-star transfer portal prospect. 247Sports rates Hecklinski as the No. 61 quarterback in its transfer rankings.
The Georgia product comes to Iowa from an athletic family. Hecklinski's dad, Randy, played quarterback at Bowling Green from 1990-95 and his uncle, Jeff, played quarterback at Illinois and Western Illinois.
Hecklinski joins a quarterback room at Iowa that features South Dakota State transfer and presumed starter Mark Gronowski, Auburn transfer Hank Brown, Jackson Stratton and class of 2025 signee Jimmy Sullivan.
Dating back to early last December, the Hawkeyes have seen a near-complete restructuring of its quarterbacks room. The only holdover is Stratton. Cade McNamara, Brendan Sullivan, Marco Lainez and James Resar all entered the NCAA transfer portal.
Here's a look at Hecklinski's high school highlights:

Alabama head coach Nate Oats.© Andrew Nelles / The Tennessean / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images A fringe top 100 recruit in the class of 2026, Onyejiaka's commitment comes with a reclassification. Instead, he will join the Crimson Tide in 2025, fresh off an Elite 8 showing. Advertisement This offseason, Alabama took to the transfer portal in hopes of replacing center Clifford Omoruyi. Oats and Company came away with Patriot League Player of the Year, Noah Williamson. The seven-foot center scored 17.6 points per game for the Bucknell Bison. The addition of Onyejiaka will give Alabama options outside Williamson. Alongside Onyejiaka and Williamson, six-foot-eleven sophomore Aiden Sherrell will likely also be in the mix after scoring just 3.4 points per game as a first-year player in 2024. Nevertheless, Alabama fans should temper expectations for Onyejiaka as a true freshman. Adam Finkelstein, the director of scouting for 247Sports, says, "He misses a surprising amount of dunks for someone so physically dominant, isn't much of a scoring threat on the perimeter, and can lack solutions when not able to overpower the opposition." Advertisement However, he does earn high praise as a post-defender and rim protector. He could find himself in the mix as a defensive anchor, especially with the war chest of offensive talent at the disposal of Oats. Alabama returns Latrell Wrightsell Jr., Labaron Philon, and Houston Mallette next season. Wrightsell Jr. is the most notable after scoring 11.5 points per game last year before suffering a season-ending injury. Oklahoma Sooners will stripe the stadium against Michigan

The Oklahoma Sooners have a total of seven home games during the 2025 season, including a huge nonconference showdown against the Michigan Wolverines in Week 2. Earlier this week, the university announced themes for each home game, with the primetime showdown against the 2023 champs as the highlight. OU will stripe Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium on September 6th, a theme the Sooners have brought out for plenty of other big games in the past. Alternating sections of fans will wear red and white shirts, displaying a great look on TV. That contest could very well earn a lot of eyeballs in early September, as it could even be the site for ESPN's College GameDay in Week 2. The network has already announced that kickoff will be at 6:30 p.m. on ABC's Saturday Night Football. But the Michigan game isn't the only one to get a theme in Norman this year. Among others, September 20th against Auburn is "Wear Crimson" day, Homecoming against Ole Miss is set for October 25th and "Military Appreciation Day" is against Missouri on November 22nd. After Oklahoma lost two home games a year ago (against Tennessee and South Carolina), the Sooners would love to get back to their 2023 form, where they went undefeated in Norman. Miami Hurricanes pick up commitment from Orlando linebacker who had 10 sacks last season

The Miami Hurricanes on Saturday picked up a public commitment from Orlando Edgewater linebacker Justin Edwards, who had been a Rutgers commitment until flipping to UM quietly earlier in the week. Edwards, who had been committed to Rutgers for just 13 days, joins Miami Northwestern's Jordan Campbell as the second linebacker commitment and 14th overall commitment in UM's 2026 class. The 6-1, 205-pound Edwards had 52 tackles, including 15 for loss, 10 sacks and three forced fumbles last season. He has been timed at 4.57 in the 40-yard dash. Edwards, who is a former safety, visited UM last weekend. 247 Sports rates him the nation's 23rd best linebacker, while rates him 52nd among linebackers. His 20-plus offers also included Syracuse, Missouri and Mississippi. 'We went to coach Mario Cristobal's house [during his home visit] and being around everybody, seeing how he treated everybody, they're like a good family down there,' Edwards told adding that he informed UM on Tuesday that he was flipping to Miami. UM also could be in line to add several other commitments in the weeks ahead. 247 Sports predicts UM will add receiver Tyran Evans, who attends Hough High in Cornelius, North Carolina, raved about his visit to UM's campus last week and de-committed from the Tennessee Volunteers less than 72 hours later. Evans, who also visited Kentucky and North Carolina State, averaged 27 yards per reception last season, catching 36 passes for 980 yards and 14 touchdowns. UM also is firmly in the mix for its top tight end target, UM's top target is Visalia (California) Redwood's Israel Briggs, who is rated by 247 as the nation's No. 6 tight end and No. 70 prospect overall for 2026. He visited UM for the third time last weekend and plans to choose between UM and LSU. The Canes hosted several 2026 recruits this weekend before an extensive dead period begins. UM's 2026 class, which now has 14 non-binding commitments, is rated ninth by On.3com and eighth by 247 Sports.
