ICICI Bank RM allegedly swindles ₹4.58 crore from customer accounts in Kota, loses most of it in stocks
A relationship manager in an ICICI bank branch in Kota allegedly swindled around ₹4.58 crore from customers' accounts only to lose the lot of it in the stock market, police on Friday (June 7, 2025) said.
She was arrested last week and is currently under judicial custody, they said.
The accused, Sakshi Gupta, was posted as a relationship manager at ICICI Bank's DCM branch.
Police said she had been pilfering from more than 110 accounts belonging to 41 customers for around two and a half years.
She allegedly invested these amounts in the stock market and lost a large chunk of it, they said.
Branch manager Tarun Dadich filed a complaint against her at the Udhyog Nagar Police Station on February 18, accusing her of siphoning ₹4.58 crore from customer accounts.
Based on the complaint, Ms. Gupta, who worked at the branch from 2020 to 2023, was arrested on May 31.
During the investigation, it was revealed that she changed the mobile numbers linked with several accounts to her relatives' numbers, ensuring that transaction alerts and OTPs were not received by the real account holders.
Sub Inspector Ibrahim said Ms. Gupta systematically transferred funds to different accounts, in some cases using an elderly woman's account, who was unaware of the activity, as a "pool account." By February 15, 2023, she had transferred more than Rs 3 crore to this account alone, he said.
He alleged that Ms. Gupta misused debit cards, PINs, and OTPs for these transactions, and even activated overdraft facilities on 40 accounts without consent.
She prematurely closed fixed deposits of 31 customers' accounts, funnelling over ₹1.34 crore. She also took out a personal loan of ₹3.40 lakh.
Police said that many transactions were conducted using Insta Kiosk installations and various digital banking platforms, with at least four customers' debit cards used for ATM and internet banking.
Proceeds from these activities were sent to demat accounts as part of the attempted cover-up.
Ms. Gupta was arrested from her parental home in Chittorgarh district's Rawatbhata.
She was sent to judicial custody after a one-day remand for interrogation, SI Ibrahim said.
Meanwhile, an ICICI Bank spokesperson, in a press note, said, "The interests of our customers are of paramount importance to us. Immediately upon discovering the fraudulent activity, we filed an FIR with the police.
"We have a zero-tolerance policy against any fraudulent activity and thus suspended the employee involved. We would like to reassure that genuine claims of impacted customers have been settled."

This Commissioner must be provided with the necessary support and strength. Steps must be taken with firm determination to make recovery to the number of illegal mining cases that have completed investigation and are now in the trial phase in court, there are at least ten times more cases that have not yet undergone investigation. Investigations into such cases are essential. Meghalaya murder case: Indore property dealer arrested for destroying evidence
The Indore Police on Sunday arrested a property dealer, identified as Shilom James, in the Meghalaya honeymoon murder case for tampering with allegedly disposed of a black bag belonging to the main murder accused, Sonam Raghuvanshi. The bag contained Rs 5 lakh in cash, her jewellery, a country-made pistol and her clothes -- all items were linked to the probe, the police told India Today the course of the investigation, one of the arrested accused -- Vishal alias Vicky Chauhan, a hitman allegedly hired by Sonam to kill her husband Raja Raghuvanshi -- revealed that he had booked an online auto from his Indore residence to Sonam's hideout in the same city with a black bag containing her clothes, jewellery, Rs 5 lakh in cash, and a pistol. Following the accused's statement, the Shillong Police reached Indore, the couple's hometown. However, after failing to locate the black bag, their counterparts in Indore managed to track down an auto driver who had delivered the bag to the Heerabag area, where Sonam was the police raided the flat in Heerabag. But, the bag was still checking nearby CCTV footage, the police identified Shilom carrying a black bag from the flat and putting it inside a car. Indore Man Who Rented Flat To Sonam, Killers, Arrested For Hiding Evidence
New Delhi: A property dealer from Indore who rented a flat to one of Raja Raghuvanshi's killers after the sinister crime has been arrested for allegedly concealing crucial evidence. According to the Meghalaya Special Investigation Team (SIT), officials said Silome James had rented a flat in Indore's Hirabagh locality to one of three killers - Vishal Singh Chauhan. The victim's wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi - who is the prime accused in the murder case - is also believed to have stayed in the flat between May 26 and June 8, before she surrendered to the police. During her interrogation, Sonam said she left a black-coloured bag in the flat on June 8 and left for Ghazipur. Sonam's phone, Raja's jewellery, Rs five lakh cash, and a country-made pistol were also kept in the flat. However, when the police raided the house, they did not find anything. The police then interrogated the flat's property dealer, James, twice - but he did not reveal anything. Preliminary investigation, however, revealed that two days after Sonam surrendered, James went to the flat and removed the bag and other evidence items. He was allegedly caught concealing the evidence in one of the CCTV cameras collected by the Meghalaya SIT. When the cops called James for interrogation last evening based on the footage, he claimed to be travelling to Bhopal and informed them that he would speak to them on Monday. Minutes later, he switched off his phone. James was arrested around 7:30 pm from the Bhonrasa Toll gate in Madhya Pradesh while he was trying to flee. The police will interrogate James once they get his police remand, and later will be taken to Shillong on a transit remand - similar to other accused. The Honeymoon Murder Case Raja and Sonam got married on May 11. Nine days later, they left for their honeymoon in Meghalaya on May 20 - with a one-way ticket in hand. The couple roamed around in the Northeast for three days before going "missing". When their family members could not reach them, they reached out to the police. What initially started as a probe to find the couple, turned into a murder investigation when Raja's body was found in a gorge on June 2, ten days after the brutal crime. His preliminary autopsy report revealed that he was attacked twice - once each on the back and front of his head. On the night of June 7, the 'missing' wife was found in an unconscious state at a 'dhaba' in Ghazipur. She was taken to the Ghazipur Medical College for treatment, where she surrendered before the police. The remaining three killers were also subsequently arrested. Preliminary investigation revealed that during their honeymoon, Sonam and Raja carried four phones ( of which three belonged to Sonam). After the three hitmen killed her husband, Sonam broke his phone and threw the damaged device, the police said. The other three mobile phones that belonged to Sonam are still missing, and the police are searching for them.
