Countdown to Kickoff: Josh Ball is the Saints Player of Day 79 Saints Player of the Day Josh Ball looks to resurrect career at a crowded tackle position.
There are 79 days remaining before the New Orleans Saints kick off their 2025 regular season with a home showdown against the Arizona Cardinals. It'll be their 59th NFL season, but first under new head coach Kellen Moore after a 5-12 record last year. Offensive lineman Josh Ball currently wears number 79 for New Orleans. A late-season pickup in 2024, Ball is our Saints Player of the Day.

An all-state and four-star recruit at Stafford High School in Virginia, Ball started his collegiate career at Florida State. He'd earn a starting job at left tackle for the Seminoles midway through his 2017 freshman campaign. Expected to be the starter at right tackle in 2018, Ball was instead suspended for the year by Florida State for off-field issues. He'd transfer to Butler Community College for that year, then transferred to Marshall in 2019. That season, he'd earn the starting left tackle role by the end of the year. Ball earned 1st Team All-Conference USA honors with the Thundering Herd in 2020, starting all eight contests of an abbreviated season because of Covid.
The Dallas Cowboys selected Ball in Round 4 of the 2021 NFL Draft. However, an ankle injury forced him to miss all of his rookie season. Upon his return in 2022, Ball appeared sparingly as a reserve at both left and right tackle through 13 games. A hip injury caused Ball to miss the entire 2023 campaign. He was released by the Cowboys at the end of training camp last year, but was brought back to the practice squad.
Ball did not appear in any regular season contests last season. The Saints signed him to their active roster off the Dallas practice squad late in the year. Ball will try to resurrect his career by earning a swing tackle spot with New Orleans this summer. To do it, he'll have to beat out fellow reserves Landon Young, Josiah Ezirim, and rookie Easton Kilty behind projected starters Taliese Fuaga and Kelvin Banks Jr.

Latest Trade Proposal from Media Sends Micah Parsons To NFC Rival
Latest Trade Proposal from Media Sends Micah Parsons To NFC Rival originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Micah Parsons has been the lifeblood for the Dallas Cowboys defense since arriving at The Star four years ago. Few players league-wide on either side of the ball have the same tangible impact as Parsons on the field. Advertisement The time has come for the defensive star to get his first of likely multiple major pay days in his career. This did not sneak up on the Cowboys, but they are clearly in no rush to get this deal done. That's the norm for the Cowboys as frustrating as it may be. The same plot played out last season with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb with Prescott's extension not coming until hours before kickoff. Parsons' loyalty to the Cowboys is unquestioned. Amid these contract disputes with the team he has remained around the team and participated minimally at mandatory minicamp this week. But until the ink dries on that piece of paper – gearing a salary we bet is now going to be in excess of $40 million per year – fans will continue to speculate about what his future looks like. That's why the latest proposal from Anne Erickson at Heavy has him headed to an NFC rival in the Detroit Lions. Advertisement The Cowboys would return a second- and fourth-round draft pick in this theoretical deal. A pairing of Micah Parsons and budding star Aidan Hutchinson would test the limits of the best offensive lines in the league. But that's more likely to happen at the Pro Bowl Games or on a Madden video game. We can argue that there is not a price that can be put on a player who provides production, leadership and wants to stay put. No amount of wish casting will change that reality. But as insider Mike Fisher notes: 'A 2 and a 4? This is peak silliness.' Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones has work to do on his end, specifically in amending the relationship with Parsons' agent. But the player and the owner maintain a strong relationship, so those personal conversations are ongoing. Advertisement This waiting game will likely cost the Cowboys once again, but there's hardly any reason to believe No. 11 will not be suiting up for Dallas through the coming years. 'Run, Dak, Run!' Inside The Cowboys' Harsh Truth As a Duel-Threat Quarterback
'Run, Dak, Run!' Inside The Cowboys' Harsh Truth As a Duel-Threat Quarterback originally appeared on Athlon Sports. FRISCO - It would be a gigantic weapon. It also, to us, seems unrealistic. Last season, just as Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott attempted to return to being the dual-threat he once was, his hamstring gave out in Week 9 against the Atlanta Falcons, ending his season. Advertisement Now he's about to turn 32. He's got the ankle surgery and the calf issue and the torn-off-the-bone hamstring surgery and yet ... ESPN's Mike Clay is projecting that Prescott finishes the 2025 season with 49 attempts for 198 yards and two touchdowns. Cool. But ... the 49 attempts would be Prescott's second-highest since 2019. And at 4.4 yards per carry, that would mark his best number since 2021. Guys ... that stuff was, like, a half-decade ago. If he can get four yards a clip? That would be such a threat additive. But ... Kurt Daniels of sees it our way. "I think it's safe to say that Prescott's days as a true dual-threat quarterback are behind him,'' Daniels writes in a harsh truth. "We learned a tough lesson last year when those of us who wanted him to run more promptly saw him rip his hamstring tendon from the bone after a scramble. ...'' Advertisement This doesn't mean Prescott can't move or that Prescott can't win. But anybody pining for his rookie year performance of 2016, when he was truly "duel-threat''? We're here to tell Cowboys Nation that Dak had better be really, really good at being a single-threat, if you catch our drift. Mets' success continues to hinge on Francisco Lindor as star breaks out of slump
Access the Mets beat like never before Join Post Sports+ for exciting subscriber-only features, including real-time texting with Mike Puma about the inside buzz on the Mets. Try it free PHILADELPHIA — It is just about inarguable at this point. As Francisco Lindor goes, so go the Mets. Advertisement During the seven-game losing streak, the reliable and likely All-Star shortstop went 3-for-26, including entering play Saturday in an 0-for-18 slump. That skid was gone by Saturday's third inning, when Lindor jumped on what would be the first of three consecutive Mets home runs. After an 11-4 victory over the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park was secured, that home run meant the Mets have won the past 28 games in which Lindor has homered, just one shy of the all-time MLB record established by Carl Furillo from 1951-53. Francisco Lindor hits a two-run double during the Mets-Phillies game on June 21, 2025. Jason Szenes / New York Post Advertisement The equation might be as simple as this: When Lindor is playing well, the Mets win. And so the Mets won and Lindor played well, brushing aside concerns about his broken pinkie toe and lugging the team on his back once more. Lindor finished 2-for-5 with one of the Mets' seven home runs, a double and three RBIs, most importantly jump-starting the Mets' comeback in the third. Advertisement Francisco Lindor celebrates during the Mets-Phillies game on June 21, 2025. Jason Szenes / New York Post Down 3-1 entering the frame — an early hole the team had become accustomed to during the tailspin — Lindor stepped into a full-count four-seamer from righty Mick Abel and crushed it to the deepest part of Citizens Bank Park, 406 feet to left-center. Following their leader, Brandon Nimmo and Juan Soto then added blasts of their own to become the first Mets to go back-to-back-to-back since Nimmo, Lindor and Jeff McNeil did it in 2022. His damage done from the left side of the plate, Lindor turned around against lefty Tanner Banks in the sixth. Advertisement CHECK OUT THE LATEST MLB STANDINGS AND METS STATS With the Mets clinging to a one-run edge and two on base, Lindor snuck a double off the wall in the right-field corner, scoring two to put the Mets ahead, 7-4, and perhaps allow his team to breathe again. Lindor did not play like an athlete who broke his right pinkie toe just two and a half weeks ago and missed only one game as a result. There has been wonder about whether the Mets would be better off giving their everyday shortstop a day or two to allow that toe to heal. As he continues to play an excellent shortstop and his bat once again looks strong, Lindor reminded why he is so difficult to pluck out of the lineup.
