Beckley man identified as worker killed on I-77, one man arrested and charged
CHARLESTON, WV (WVNS) — A Beckley man was identified as the construction worker killed on I-77 in Kanawha County on Monday, April 14, 2025.
According to the West Virginia State Police, at 10:46 AM, Parkways Control received a report of a Parkways employee, now identified as 23-year-old James Harper, of Beckley, being hit by a commercial vehicle that was travelling in the southbound lanes near mile marker 92.
The driver of the vehicle was identified at 28-year-old Anvar Sabirov, of Rego Park, New York. Witnesses stated that Sabirov allegedly entered the marked work zone with his head down. Harper was hit while he was filling a pothole.

Sabirov was arrested and charged with Vehicular Manslaughter.

Pregnant woman injured when impaired driver crashed into apartment in Braxton County: WVSP
SUTTON, (WBOY) — Two people were injured in Sutton, West Virginia when a driver who was allegedly under the influence crashed into their porch while they were eating dinner on Saturday. Troopers with the West Virginia State Police were called to a home on North Hill Road in Sutton where a vehicle had crashed around 5 p.m. on June 7, according to a press release. Troopers said that a Cadillac driven by Marilee McKenzie, 57, of Lucasville, Ohio, crashed into the front porch of an apartment where a couple was having dinner. Both of the people on the porch were injured and transported by EMS to Braxton County Memorial Hospital, including a 44-year-old pregnant women who 'suffered a significant laceration to her leg,' according to the complaint. WV Prosecuting Attorneys Association 'setting record straight' on criminal penalties from miscarriages 'Fortunately, medical staff indicated that her unborn child was unharmed,' troopers said. Four-vehicle crash closes lanes of Route 460
PRINCETON – Route 460's eastbound traffic was blocked Thursday after a four-vehicle crash. Troopers with the West Virginia State Police Princeton Detachment and other first responders were dispatched after a four-vehicle crash was reported near East Martin Drive off Route 460, according to Cpl. D.R. Kincaid with the State Police. The crash occurred around 2:45 p.m., Kincaid said. Around four injured people were transported to a WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital. Their conditions were not available at press time Thursday. Cpl. J.L. Morris was the investigating officer, while Sgt. J.R. Tupper also worked at the scene. Morris was unavailable Thursday for additional comment. The crash's cause was under investigation.

Warrants issued in relation fight after local high school graduation
BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — Multiple arrest warrants were issued in connection to a fight that occurred after the Woodrow Wilson High School graduation. According to a press release from the Beckley Police Department, the fight occurred on Saturday, May 31, 2025 after the Woodrow Wilson High School graduation at the Beckley-Raleigh Convention Center. Richlands Police Department investigates reported hit-and-run accident involving a pedestrian The press release stated that it was discovered that the fight was allegedly caused by ongoing tensions between multiple people involved in the incident. The Beckley Police Department stated that during the fight, a gun was taken from one of the people involved, although the gun was reportedly never shown at the time of the fight. According to the Beckley Police Department, regardless of the event location, possessing a gun at a school sponsored event is illegal.
