Paige Bueckers Reaches Impressive Career Milestone in Return From Injury originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
When the Dallas Wings secured the No. 1 overall pick in the WNBA Draft Lottery, it was clear they had their sights set on one player — former UConn star and national champion Paige Bueckers.

Bueckers has impressed early in her rookie campaign, showcasing the skills that made her one of the most highly anticipated prospects in years. However, her strong start was briefly interrupted after she entered concussion protocol, forcing her to miss the Wings' last four games.
On Wednesday night, Bueckers made her much-anticipated return as the 1–9 Wings faced the Phoenix Mercury — and she didn't miss a beat. She came out firing, knocking down her first six shots from the field and finishing the first half with 22 points, five rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block.
Her first-half performance wasn't just impactful — it was historic. According to "Polymarket Hoops," Bueckers became the fourth-fastest rookie in WNBA history to record at least 100 points, 25 rebounds, and 25 assists. The only players to achieve the milestone faster were Caitlin Clark, Candace Parker, and Cynthia Cooper.
Entering Wednesday night, through six regular season games, Bueckers was averaging an impressive 14.7 points, 6.7 assists, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game. She's also been efficient, shooting 43.7% from the field, 33.3% from 3-point range, and 80.8% from the free-throw line.

Despite her strong individual performance, the Wings have struggled collectively. Their 1–9 record is currently the worst in the league. However, there's room for optimism — three of their next four opponents after Wednesday's matchup against the Mercury have sub-.500 records, giving Dallas a real opportunity to start turning things around.

ESPN's Mike Breen Breaks Silence on Doris Burke Reports

ESPN's Mike Breen Breaks Silence on Doris Burke Reports originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Mike Breen, Doris Burke and Richard Jefferson will be on the call for ESPN when the Indiana Pacers and Oklahoma City Thunder take the court for Game 7 of the NBA Finals on Sunday night. Advertisement This Game 7 could mark the final time Breen and Burke share the broadcast booth. Prior to the start of this year's NBA championship series, sports media insider Andrew Marchand of The Athletic reported that ESPN is considering a major change to its lead NBA broadcast team. ESPN reportedly plans to re-sign Jefferson, but Burke's future is in question. This is Breen's second season working alongside Burke in the NBA Finals broadcast booth. Last year, Breen and Burke called the championship series alongside now-former ESPN analyst JJ Redick. In a recent interview with Richard Deitsch of The Athletic, Breen was asked to address the reports of Burke's possible replacement. 'Right now, what I'm focused on and what I am thrilled at is with the growth we've had as a team,' Breen said. 'These Finals, I really feel like we've come so far. I don't know the exact amount or number of games we've done together, but it's not many. 'I don't think people understand how difficult it is to find that chemistry. It's hard in a two-person booth; it's harder in a three-person booth. I'm blown away by Doris and Richard and their work ethic and their care factor to get it right. I've had so much fun with them. Some of these Finals broadcasts have been far and away our best together, and we keep getting better. That's my thought going into Game 7.' Brewers Just Set up the Most Highly Anticipated Pitching Matchup of the Season Against Pirates

Brewers Just Set up the Most Highly Anticipated Pitching Matchup of the Season Against Pirates originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Pitching matchups between highly touted players happen quite often. Opening Day is filled with elite pitchers going toe-to-toe as teams line up their aces right out of the gate. Rarely though, during the middle of the season, do we get a matchup of starting pitchers so juicy, so intriguing, it draws the attention of the entire league as soon as the probable starters were announced. Advertisement That's exactly what's coming this week between the Milwaukee Brewers and Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday afternoon at American Family Field. It'll be reigning NL Rookie of the Year Paul Skenes on the mound for the Pirates against flamethrowing rookie Jacob Misiorowski for the Brewers. ' © Jesse Johnson-Imagn Images Paul Skenes vs Jacob Misiorowski The Brewers and Pirates announced their probable starters for the next series on Sunday and just like many had projected for the last week, the two pitchers with perhaps the most electric stuff in baseball will be pitching in the same game. Skenes has a 1.85 ERA on the season with 106 strikeouts. His fastball averages 98 MPH and he's hit triple-digits 28 times this season. He's coming off a runaway Rookie of the Year campaign and All Star start after being the #1 overall pick in the 2023 Draft. Advertisement Misiorowski didn't allow a hit for his first 11 IP in the majors and has already thrown 52 pitches north of 100 MPH. He's already sending his hat to the Baseball Hall of Fame and has set an MLB record for longest stretch without allowing a hit to start a career as a starting pitcher. Skenes is in the 100th percentile in the league in Pitching Run Value and the 99th percentile in Fastball Run Value. Misiorowski is 100th percentile in extension and 99th percentile in Fastball Velocity. While Misiorowski doesn't have the MLB volume that Skenes does to qualify in other stats, it doesn't take some of those numbers to know the quality of stuff. You'd have trouble finding two pitchers in Major League Baseball with more electric stuff than these two. Getting both of them against each other in the same game will be appointment television for baseball fans everywhere, not just in Milwaukee and Pittsburgh. Advertisement It'll be a Wednesday afternoon getaway game to wrap up the series between the Brewers and Pirates, but no one will be able to get their eyes away from this game with these two masters of their craft on the bump. Browns Ex-First-Rounder Involved In Trade Buzz with Eagles

Browns Ex-First-Rounder Involved In Trade Buzz with Eagles originally appeared on Athlon Sports. If the Cleveland Browns are serious about moving off of cornerback Greg Newsome II, as is rumored? It seems the defending Super Bowl champions from Philadelphia might want to move in. Advertisement Philly seems pretty stout in the secondary, with young stars like Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, so we're not sure what the attraction to Newsome is ... Unless there is a sense that the Browns - who selected Newsome in the first round (26th overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft - simply want to give up on something that once seems special. Newsome was named to the All-Rookie Team after finishing his rookie season with 37 combined tackles and nine pass deflections in 12 games. He was good again in 2023 as he posted career-highs with 49 tackles, 14 passes defensed and two interceptions, including a big-time pick-six against Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens. But he got demoted last year, even after the Browns ended up exercising Newsome's fifth-year option worth $13.37 million guaranteed. And then got hurt, his season ending prematurely when he was placed on IR with a hamstring injury. Advertisement It is possible that Cleveland simply doesn't want to give him a contract beyond this year ... and on that note, we wonder if the Eagles really want to absorb Newsome's $13.3 million fully guaranteed contract for 2025. At just 25 years old, Newsome's best chance for success might be a change of scenery ... especially if that involves chasing a Super Bowl, something that's not likely happening in Cleveland any time soon.
