Mass. brothers charged with firearm, drug offenses
BOSTON (WWLP) – Two brothers from Lynn were arrested and charged last Thursday in connection with firearm and drug distribution crimes.
The charging documents stated that in 2024, 38-year-old Maurice Bennett was identified by law enforcement as a member of the Bloods street gang in Lynn. Maurice also had prior convictions for violent crimes related to firearms.

Investigators were able to intercept text messages between Maurice and his brother, 29-year-old Meliek Bennett, in which they allegedly coordinated the distribution of drugs such as marijuana, counterfeit pills, prescription medication, and cocaine. The messages also allegedly discussed sharing drug customers and supplies, and taking a trip to New Hampshire to sell substances there together.
In September 2024, investigators obtained a recorded conversation in which Meliek allegedly said that he planned to use a silenced pistol to shoot up a drug supplier's residence and potentially murder the supplier. Meliek said through texts with Maurice and on the recording that he owed the drug supplier a debt after the supplier had beaten him up.
Shortly afterward, officers executed a search warrant at Meliek's residence in Lynn, where they located a .22 caliber pistol with a threaded barrel and ammunition. They also found fentanyl tablets, oxycodone, gabapentin, and marijuana.
Meliek and Maurice were charged last Thursday by criminal complaint with conspiracy to distribute controlled substances. Meliek was also charged with possession of controlled substances with intent to distribute, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
The brothers will be sentenced at a later date and could face up to 20 years in prison and at least five years of supervised release.

Teen charged with 4 counts of murder in Utah carnival shooting
Prosecutors in Utah charged a 16-year-old boy with four counts of murder Friday for allegedly shooting to death three people, including an infant and pregnant woman, in an apparent gang confrontation at a carnival. In all, five people, including two teens wounded in the arm, were shot late Sunday at WestFest in West Valley City, a Salt Lake City suburb. The shooting happened a day after one at a 'No Kings' protest the day before, making for an unusually violent weekend for the Salt Lake City area. Two of those killed were bystanders: the 8-month-old boy and 41-year-old pregnant woman, Fnu Reena, 41, of West Jordan, Utah. An 18-year-old man slain, Hassan Lugundi, of West Valley City, was the apparent intended target, according to a police affidavit filed in the case. 'I'm gonna tell you guys right now, I know what I hit because I know where I was aiming, and I know where I was shooting. I did not hit no baby,' the teen allegedly told police soon after the shooting. Police learned later that Reena was eight weeks pregnant, resulting in the fourth murder count under Utah law. Shot in her head, Reena had just been in for a medical checkup that day, Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill said at a news conference Friday. The infant, also shot in the head, was in a stroller with his twin sibling, who was unhurt. The infant was unrelated to the other victims. A 17-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy were each shot in the arm, and a pregnant woman was injured while trying to flee over a fence, according to police. Besides the murder charges, the alleged shooter faced nine felony counts of discharging a firearm resulting in serious injury. Each murder charge could bring a life sentence if not the death penalty for an adult. As a juvenile, the suspect was ineligible for the death penalty or life in prison. Prosecutors asked that the teenager remain jailed without bond. Court documents did not identify an attorney for the youth who could speak on his behalf. The gun used in the shooting was a Taurus G2C 9 mm handgun reported stolen in Louisiana, according to police. The alleged shooter was a member of the Titanic Crip Society, a rival of the Bloods gang. Lugundi was friends with Bloods members, according to the affidavit. The WestFest carnival, a celebration of the establishment of West Valley City and of its cultural diversity, was winding down after drawing as many as 10,000 people over the weekend. Between 1,000 to 2,000 people were still present when the shooting happened. The apparently unrelated shooting at the 'No Kings' protest the day before happened when a man believed to be part of a peacekeeping team for the rally shot at a man brandishing a rifle at demonstrators, striking both the rifleman and a bystander. The rifleman had relatively minor injuries, but the bystander died at a hospital.

She is white with brown hair and brown eyes, and is approximately 5'6″ tall and 90 pounds. Two men arrested during street-level enforcement operations in Greenfield
GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Two men were arrested in Greenfield during street-level enforcement operations conducted by members of the Northwestern District Attorney's Anti-Crime Task Force. In a news release sent to 22News from the Northwestern District Attorney's Office, detectives from state police and Greenfield police with the Northwestern District Attorney's Anti-Crime Task Force made two drug and weapons-related arrests. Holyoke man charged with attempted murder and multiple gun offenses This past Wednesday, officers conducted a traffic stop on Bernardston Road in Greenfield at approximately 10:30 p.m. Ashfield resident, 34-year-old Christopher Gonyea, was arrested and charged with the following: Possession of a Class A substance (Heroin/Fentanyl) Possession of a Class B substance (cocaine) Possession of a Class E substance A traffic stop was conducted on Wells Street in Greenfield on June 3 at around 8:30 p.m. An officer observed drug paraphernalia in a car and, following an investigation, loaded handgun equipped with a high-capacity magazine as well as additional ammunition and approximately 79 grams of cocaine.
