Duquesne Light Company provides update, says power should be restored by Tuesday night
Following last week's severe storms that left so many without power, Duquesne Light Company provided an update on Sunday morning, saying power has been restored to 93% of customers and those still without power should expect to have it restored by 11 p.m. on Tuesday night, if not sooner.
According to DLC, of the customers who currently do not have power, 23,000 are from the initial storm last week, while an additional 17,000 lost power from weather incidents since May 1.
"DLC determined that the estimated time of restoration for all customers, also known as the 'global' ETR, is Tuesday, May 6 at 11 p.m., with many customers expected to be restored sooner," DLC said in a news release provided to KDKA-TV.
They are expecting certain municipalities to be "substantially" restored by Monday, May 5, at 12:30 p.m., and that includes all municipalities in Beaver County, along with many in southeastern Allegheny County. For Allegheny County, that includes Baldwin Borough, Clairton City, Duquesne City, Homestead Borough, Jefferson Hills, McKeesport, Munhall, North Versailles, Pleasant Hills, West Homestead, and West Mifflin.
Meanwhile, Pittsburgh, Coraopolis, Gibsonia, Monroeville, Allison Park, and Carnegie saw significant damage, and they're expected to be restored to the global ETR by Tuesday at 11 p.m.
Since the storms hit last week, Duquesne Light Company has brought in an additional 600 crew members from outside utilities and from other contractors.
The company encourages customers to check the DLC Outage Map for the latest updates, which can be found at this link.

Extreme Heat Warning goes into effect today, lasts through Wednesday
Our first bout of excessive heat of the summer builds in today as a strong ridge of high pressure aloft in the atmosphere, aka "heat dome," shifts from the Central US to the Eastern US. WEATHER LINKS: Current Conditions | School Closings & Delays | Submit Your Weather Photos Not only will a hot airmass shift toward our area, but dew points are expected to climb as well into the low to mid 70s. Sunday will feature our first 90-degree day of the year, with plenty of opportunities into the upcoming week as well. Temperatures and heat index for Sunday evening KDKA Weather Center Most models agree that the core of the heat dome will peak in intensity and park directly over the Ohio Valley and Mid-Atlantic states Monday and Tuesday. The saving grace for the Pittsburgh metro and a majority of our region is that our soils are very moist, and the evaporation of this moisture should keep afternoon air temperatures in check, mostly reaching the low to mid-90s. Despite this, it will be VERY humid, and this will lead to heat indices between 100-105F today through Wednesday during the afternoon. Temperatures and heat index for Monday evening KDKA Weather Center Concerning high temperature records, the days Pittsburgh will be closest to record highs will be Monday (95F set in 1894) and Tuesday (96F set in 1882). DuBois, Pa., and Morgantown, West Virginia, which are other sites in our coverage area that keep long-term climate records, may also break record highs from Monday to Wednesday. While we may stay just shy of record highs, record warm low temperatures are very likely to be met in Pittsburgh, along with Morgantown and DuBois. Air temperatures will struggle to drop below 70°F at night, which makes this heat very dangerous for those who don't have air conditioning. Extreme heat is the leading killer of all weather-related hazards, so individuals should take precautions in this upcoming stretch. High temperatures and heat index over the next six days KDKA Weather Center As far as rain chances go for this week, we may see a stray shower or storm pop up in the heat of the day on Tuesday, mainly due to how hot temperatures will be near the ground, accompanied by much moisture. Slightly better chances of showers and storms look plausible on Wednesday and Thursday as the core of the heat ridge breaks down and a weak front moves into the area. Our "low" temperatures will not be that low this week KDKA Weather Center This front does not look as potent as in earlier model runs, so it is possible the stretch of 90-degree weather may continue all the way through the end of the week. Rain chances over the next week KDKA Weather Center A second and stronger cold front may bring a better chance of rain and storms by Saturday into the following Sunday. Any thunderstorms that form, especially during the heat of the day, may carry a localized damaging wind threat. 7-day forecast: June 22, 2025 KDKA Weather Center Stay up to date with the KDKA Mobile App – which you can download here!

Extreme Heat Warning in effect from Sunday through Wednesday for the Pittsburgh area
After a few scattered showers and storms Friday evening, conditions begin dry with mostly cloudy skies across Western Pennsylvania and Northern West Virginia. A thunderstorm complex moving around the periphery of our developing heat ridge will likely bypass us to the northeast today, with a low chance of a shower or storm northeast of Pittsburgh up to the I-80 corridor. The rest of our area should see mostly cloudy skies this morning with decreasing clouds and temperatures heating up by late afternoon with highs in the upper 80s. Pleasant weather returns to Pittsburgh on Friday, but a heat wave looms
Humidity breaks today, even as high temperatures go up. Earlier this week, model data was showing today's high being cooler than yesterday's high. I didn't bite and kept today's temperature warmer than yesterday's, and it looks like a good call at this point. WEATHER LINKS: Current Conditions | School Closings & Delays | Submit Your Weather Photos The one thing that will be noticeably lower than yesterday will be dew points and oppressive humidity. Dew points are all the way down in the upper 50s right now, and that's about where they will be all day today. Conditions in Pittsburgh today KDKA Weather Center This has allowed morning temperatures to dip to near 60 to start the day. There was some valley fog due to the cool temperatures and saturated ground this morning. The pleasant weather will continue into the afternoon with highs hitting the mid-80s. I have noon temperatures near 80 degrees. Winds will be light, coming in out of the west at around 5mph. Expect lots of sunshine today, but a pesky shower or storm chance will persist this afternoon. I think almost everyone is dry, with the best chance for seeing a brief storm happening north of Cranberry and after 3 this afternoon. Saturday will be a transition day with us starting off with pleasant conditions, but humidity will go up throughout the day. I have Saturday highs hitting 87°. Temperatures and heat index over the next six days KDKA Weather Center Our first potential heat wave of the year arrives on Sunday, with temperatures flirting with 90 degrees all the way through at least next Sunday. History tells us that we likely won't see eight straight days with highs in the 90s, but it will certainly be possible. At this point, it doesn't look like we get too close to an overall record high temperature day in Pittsburgh. Places in our area that will be under Excessive Heat Watch beginning on Sunday KDKA Weather Center We'd have to hit 95° in order to set a record (Monday, Thursday) next week, and I don't have us getting to 93°. We may hit what we call a record max-min. This would be the hottest low temperature. Right now I have us tying the max-min record of 74° on Tuesday. Right now is the time to prepare for the heat, including checking a/c units to make sure they're working properly. You can also clean fan blades. Eating cool foods can also help to cool your body's internal temperature. Finally, cold showers are one of the best ways to stay cool in your home, both before and after it. If you can't get relief while at your home, head to your local library. 7-day forecast: June 20, 2025 KDKA Weather Center Stay up to date with the KDKA Mobile App – which you can download here!
