Indiana Fever guard sees social media following erupt after Caitlin Clark defense
Since committing a hard foul in defense of star guard Caitlin Clark, Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham has seen her social media following skyrocket. Since the incident occurred, Cunningham's jersey sold out in the Fever team store and she has gained nearly 300,000 followers on Instagram and jumped from 300,000 to over 1.2 million followers on TikTok. As a frequent social media user, she posted a TikTok video playing into what happened during Tuesday's game with her lip-syncing lyrics from the Selena Gomez song, "Hands to Myself." "It's a joke... the sound was too fitting! happy game day," Cunningham captioned the post. That video now has more than 800,000 likes and 25,000 shares. Cunningham was ejected on June 17 after committing a late-game Flagrant 2 foul on Sun guard Jacy Sheldon which immediately drew Sheldon and fellow Sun guard Lindsay Allen into a fracas along the baseline. "It's cool. It's funny what kind of people are attracted to," Cunningham said Saturday of gaining so many followers. "I'm just trying to keep the main thing the main thing, and that's basketball, trying to win games, sticking up for my teammates. And that's all part of it. I think all that stuff is fun and whatnot, but, at the end of the day, we need to win some basketball games." Cunningham and the Fever (6-6) return to action on Sunday against the Las Vegas Aces (5-7) from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Big3 parts ways with influencer who posted Caitlin Clark highlights during in-game action
The post Big3 parts ways with influencer who posted Caitlin Clark highlights during in-game action appeared first on ClutchPoints. Anyone and everyone who saw Caitlin Clark make her return to the floor following a two-week hiatus could tell she hadn't skipped a beat. Last Saturday, Clark was hitting shot after shot and finished with 32 points and the Indiana Fever defeated the New York Liberty 102-88. Advertisement One of those admirers soaking it in was basketball influencer Rachel DeMita, an analyst for Ice Cube's Big3 League. Coincidentally, the Fever/Liberty game aired on ABC at the same time a Big3 game in Chicago aired on CBS. DeMita took to X to express her excitement at Clark's return. 'for those who questioned the hype.' she posted. However, DeMita was terminated from her role at Big3 due to that post on Friday, per Ryan Glasspiegel of Front Office Sports. A Big3 spokesperson didn't respond to comment to Front Office Sports. Nor did DeMita or her agent offer a comment at this time. DeMita has developed a strong social media following for her basketball analysis and commentary. Advertisement She has 278,000 followers on X, 1 million on Instagram, 452,000 on TikTok, and 362,000 YouTube subscribers. The connection between Caitlin Clark and the Big3 Since Clark emerged as a generational talent, the Big3 attempted to attach their brand to her name. In March 2024, Ice Cube offered Clark a $5 million contract to play in the Big3. Ultimately, Clark was the No.1 pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft and was drafted by the Fever to much fanfare. Along the way, Clark went onto win the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year. The Big3 is largely comprised of former NBA players playing in a 3 on 3 format. They play half court games in eight cities (Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Washington D.C., Houston, Los Angeles, and Miami). Advertisement Not necessarily conducive to a player of Clark's caliber. She likes to push the tempo, run the floor, and shoot her trademark logo three pointers. Sky's Angel Reese arrives in style to clash with Fever
The post Sky's Angel Reese arrives in style to clash with Fever appeared first on ClutchPoints. For many basketball players, a pregame outfit is about more than convenience or practicality. Arena entrances have become akin to red-carpet appearances or fashion shows. Athletes frequently take full advantage of the opportunity to express themselves, and sometimes they put together an ensemble that has people feeling a bit perplexed. Chicago Sky star Angel Reese went all out before Saturday's prime-time matchup against the Indiana Fever. Advertisement The 2024 All-Star did not let a fairly warm evening rob her of a chance to flaunt some of her eye-catching winter attire. Reese arrived in the United Center dressed in all black, wearing a trench coat with a fur collar, a fur hat, thigh-high boots and sunglasses. She perked up at the sight of the Sky's camera man and proceeded to enter model-mode, breaking into poses that rival Derek Zoolander's classic Blue Steele look. 'A couple more {pictures},' Reese urged, via the WNBA X account. Angel Reese gets people talking The Sky's showdown with a Caitlin Clark-less Fever squad is part of the WNBA Commissioner's Cup, so perhaps the second-year forward is merely dressing for the occasion. Reese is among the most polarizing talents in the league and knows her attire and actions will be heavily scrutinized. She obviously does not care, however, and is perfectly content with the massive following she has built throughout her basketball career. Advertisement Reese's confidence appeals to those many supporters, as does her play. The 23-year-old is averaging a double-double in the early portion of the 2025 WNBA campaign, leading the league with 12.3 rebounds per contest. She is struggling profusely on offense — shooting 31.1 percent from the field — but Chicago trusts its franchise pillar to find her offensive form soon. Angel Reese and the Sky won back to-back games versus the Dallas Wings after starting 0-4. They suffered an embarrassing 35-point loss at Indiana in the season opener on May 17. A much better showing will be expected, nay demanded on their home floor. Based on her attire, Reese is certainly thinking big. We will see if the audaciousness translates to the court. Chicago trailed 41-28 at halftime. Related: Hailey Van Lith's 'heartbreaking' reaction to Courtney Vandersloot injury Related: Why United Center fell short of capacity crowd for Sky vs. Fever game
