Rangers Place Jake Burger on the Injured List
The Texas Rangers placed first baseman Jake Burger on the 10-day injured list on Saturday with a strained left oblique. Burger was injured on a swing during Friday night's 6–2 win over the Pirates.
Infielder Justin Foscue was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock and was in uniform for Saturday's game. Utility player Ezequiel Duran is expected to be the primary first baseman while Burger recovers. 'I want to give Zeke some runway here,' Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said.
This is the third straight season that Burger has gone on the IL with a side injury. However, Burger is optimistic that he will not be sidelined long. 'I've dealt with this before and it's been quick (to heal),' Burger said. 'My mind is on coming back on the 11th day, getting back as soon as I can.'
Burger was acquired from Miami in an offseason trade. He is hitting .220 with 10 home runs in 65 games after going deep 29 times last season. He was demoted to Triple-A for a week in May.
Also Saturday, Nathan Eovaldi threw a simulated game of 50 pitches and three innings, and Jon Gray had a 35-pitch bullpen session. Eovaldi and Gray are coming back from injuries. Eovaldi could rejoin the team's rotation next week when Texas plays a three-game series at Baltimore that begins on Monday night. He has been on the injured list since June 1 due to right posterior elbow inflammation. Eovaldi has a 4–3 record and 1.56 ERA in 12 starts this season. 'Everything went well,' he said. 'I threw all my pitches. I feel like I'm ready to come back.'
Gray has yet to pitch this season after fracturing his right wrist during spring training. There is no timetable for his return.
Center fielder Wyatt Lankford was out of the lineup for a second straight game because of back spasms. Bochy expects him to play on Sunday in the finale of the three-game series.
Foscue made his major league debut last year and hit .048 in 15 games with Texas. At Round Rock this season, he was batting .269 with 10 home runs in 50 games.

Game 7: After a back-and-forth NBA Finals, it's time for the Thunder and Pacers to decide the title
Oklahoma City Thunder coach Mark Daigneault knows exactly why the NBA Finals are coming down to a Game 7. 'It's a contest of wills,' he said. 'And to this point, neither side has lost its will.' Back and forth they have gone, the Thunder and the Indiana Pacers. Indiana led the series, then Oklahoma City tied it, then Indiana retook the lead, then Oklahoma City tied it again, then it was the Thunder who moved one win away, and then the Pacers knotted the matchup for a third time. After all that, Game 7. It happens Sunday, with tip-off at 8:07 p.m. Eastern for the NBA title. After six games – some close, some blowouts, the teams alternating who is in control of the series – there clearly is a mutual admiration between the clubs. 'It's two teams where the whole is better than the sum of the parts,' Daigneault said. 'It's two teams that are highly competitive. Two teams that play together. Two teams that kind of rely on the same stuff for their success that are squaring off against each other.' It is the 20th Game 7 in NBA Finals history. Home teams went 15–4 in the previous 19. Indiana is seeking its first NBA title. Oklahoma City would say the same, although the franchise won the 1979 title when the team played in Seattle. And the winner will become the seventh different champion in the last seven seasons, a run of parity like none other in NBA history. Pacers forward Pascal Siakam was part of the Toronto team that won in 2019. Thunder guard Alex Caruso was part of the Los Angeles Lakers team that won in the pandemic bubble in 2020. Milwaukee won in 2021, Golden State in 2022, Pacers forward Thomas Bryant and Denver prevailed in 2023, and Boston won last year's title. Late Sunday night, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver will hand the Larry O'Brien Trophy to either the Thunder or Pacers – one of whom will become the ninth franchise to win a title in Silver's 12 seasons leading the league. His predecessor, David Stern, saw eight different franchises win championships in his 30 seasons as commissioner. 'You never know how it's going to go,' Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said. 'I'd be lying if I said this has gone exactly as I expected because each playoff series, each game, is a different thing. Each game takes on a different personality, has different characteristics. Different guys step up. Different situations happen, etc. The truth is that nothing else previous to this matters at all now. We're just down to one game and one opportunity. We're really looking forward to it.'

Duke's Khaman Maluach, Maryland's Derik Queen Headline List of Big Men in Upcoming NBA Draft
Khaman Maluach and Derik Queen, freshmen standouts in the recent NCAA tournament, are leading prospects among big men in the upcoming NBA draft. While the draft features a deep pool of talented guards, the selection of big men is smaller, potentially resulting in only Maluach and Queen being chosen in the lottery. Maluach, a 7-foot-1, 253-pound center from South Sudan, showcased his skills as a rim-runner, shot-blocker, and lob threat during Duke's Final Four run. His impressive 7-6 3/4 wingspan, perimeter defense capabilities, and remarkable 89.4 percent shooting accuracy on pick-and-roll plays highlight his potential. Though still developing his offensive skills, his 76.6 percent free-throw shooting and four made 3-pointers suggest he can improve his touch. Queen, a 6-foot-9, 248-pound forward from Maryland, averaged 16.5 points and 9.0 rebounds, demonstrating his scoring ability in post-ups and off the offensive glass. His solid passing and 76.6 percent free-throw shooting further enhance his profile. However, questions remain about his defensive abilities and how he will perform against larger or quicker opponents. His outside shooting also needs improvement, as evidenced by his 20 percent 3-point shooting percentage. Other notable big men prospects include Asa Newell from Georgia, known for his athleticism and potential as a versatile defender; Thomas Sorber from Georgetown, with his strong frame and defensive potential; Rasheer Fleming from Saint Joseph's, a first-round prospect who improved his 3-point shooting to 39 percent last year; Danny Wolf from Michigan, who averaged 13.2 points and 9.7 rebounds; Maxime Raynaud from Stanford, a skilled 7-footer averaging 20.2 points and 10.6 rebounds; Joan Beringer from France, a mobile pick-and-roll threat; Hansen Yang from China, with intriguing size and shooting touch; Ryan Kalkbrenner from Creighton, who averaged 14.5 points and 2.4 blocks; Yanic Konan Niederhauser from Penn State, known for his shot-blocking ability; and Johni Broome from Auburn, an All-American who averaged 10.8 rebounds and 2.1 blocks.

Guardiola: Winning Club World Cup Would Not Make Up for City's Disappointing Season
Winning the Club World Cup title again would not make up for the disappointing 2024-25 season that Manchester City have had, manager Pep Guardiola said ahead of Sunday's Group G clash with Emirati side Al-Ain in Atlanta. Guardiola's City fell short of winning the Premier League for the fifth time in a row, finishing third in the English top-flight. They also failed to reach the Champions League's round of 16, being eliminated by Real Madrid in the knockout phase playoffs. "I said many times, the season was not good," Guardiola told reporters on Saturday. "Winning this competition is not going to change that, but my mindset at the moment is not about winning the competition. We can extend our time here, being here longer,' Reuters quoted him as saying. Guardiola, who has won the Club World Cup four times as manager, guided City to their first world title in 2023, before the tournament was revamped as a 32-team competition to be held once every four years. City, who beat Morocco's Wydad Casablanca 2-0 in their campaign opener, have a chance to qualify for the round of 16 with a win over Al-Ain, who suffered a 5-0 loss to Juventus in their first game. "Now we're here, I want to do the best. I want to enjoy the moment here because you're here one time every four years... And I want to arrive in the latter stages," Guardiola added.
