Auburn says goodbye to beloved community icon Justin Murphy
AUBURN, Ala. (WRBL) -Sunday marked the end of an era in Auburn, Alabama, as the community said goodbye to one of its most beloved residents, Justin Murphy, as he and his family prepared to move from Auburn to Enterprise, Alabama.
To know Justin is to be remembered by him—not just your name, but your entire story. Your parents, your kids, your vacation three summers ago—even your appendix surgery. He remembers, and he cares. It's a rare gift, and one that made him unforgettable.
Justin has long been a fixture at the Auburn Publix—greeting customers with an infectious smile, a warm hug, and the kind of genuine interest that made you feel like family. A trip to the grocery store wasn't just about milk and eggs; it was about seeing Justin, catching up, and walking away feeling better than when you arrived. Sunday is his final day at the store. Publix, along with Rocco's Pizza—hosted a heartfelt farewell celebration in Justin's honor. Members of the community lined up to share hugs, memories, and well wishes.
And it wasn't just at Publix.
You'd find Justin cheering at Auburn University sporting events, grabbing a bite at Byron's Barbecue, or chatting with friends wherever the day took him. Wherever Justin went, the atmosphere changed—brighter, warmer, fuller. He wasn't just the most popular person in the room—he was the room.
A dedicated athlete, Justin is an accomplished Special Olympian. Competing in powerlifting, he earned second place in bench press, deadlift, and overall in his division—recognized by Special Olympics Alabama – Lee County. In 2019, he was honored with the Spirit of Alabama Special Olympics Award, a testament to his unwavering commitment, sportsmanship, and heart.
As Justin and his family prepare to move to Enterprise, Alabama, the Auburn community feels the loss deeply.

The Men's College World Series finals starts on Saturday, but LSU is already on its way to a crucial win. The school is once again dominating the competition in the Rocco's Jell-O shot challenge. As of Friday night, LSU fans have consumed an incredible 30,577 Jell-O shots during the College World Series. That's nearly 22,000 more than the second-place Arkansas fan base has downed in Omaha. While that number should increase during the finals, Rocco's Pizza and Cantina — which hosts the competition each year — didn't expect to see a ton of movement on its board Thursday or Friday with no games scheduled. That gives LSU and Coastal Carolina fans five more days — at most — to run up this year's total. Rocco's Pizza and Cantina in Omaha started the Jell-O shot challenge in 2019. During the College World Series, fans of any of the eight teams in the tournament can buy $5 Jell-O shots as a show of support for their team. The fan base that consumes the most Jell-O shots "wins" the competition. Rocco's does donate a portion of each Jell-O shot to food banks. Rocco's Jell-O shot challenge record LSU is no stranger to dominating the event. The school holds Rocco's all-time record. In 2023, the LSU fan base consumed an incredible 68,888 Jell-O shots. Despite LSU still being in the 2025 College World Series, the record seems untouchable this year. As LSU has shown in the past, however, the school can't be counted out. Even if a new record won't be set in 2025, you can bet LSU fans will do their best to bump up their final tally before the College World Series ends.

LSU fans are at it again, and they're gunning for a College World Series win. No, not on the field, although that'd be great for the Tigers, who last won a CWS title in 2023. We're talking about the annual Rocco's Pizza & Cantina Jell-O shot challenge, in which patrons buy as many shots of the wobbly liquor-filled stuff as they can in support of their favorite school. Advertisement At last count earlier this week, LSU was wiping the floor with every other school, downing over 10,000 Jell-O shots. And as of Monday night? They're up to 17,746 shots. It's a complete blow-out. This brings us to an important question: can LSU break its own Jell-O shot record? Remember, LSU fans drank (ate?) 68,888 shots in 2023, which was a record. The other question is: if LSU gets eliminated, will fans stop buying shots in honor of the Tigers? At this pace, assuming LSU sticks around til the end, they could have a, er, shot. But we'll see. Justin Ishbia Strikes Deal for Chicago White Sox Control
Justin Ishbia has reached an agreement that may give him control of the Chicago White Sox as soon as 2029, team owner Jerry Reinsdorf confirmed to Sportico. The agreement allows Reinsdorf, 89, to control the team for at least four more years. After 2034, Ishbia would have the right to buy the control stake. Ishbia and his brother Mat initially bought a mid-single-digit percentage of the team in 2021, and they have added to the total since then. Reinsdorf, in a phone call, declined to provide any other details. The White Sox issued a statement after Sportico broke the news, which said that all limited partners would have the opportunity to sell to Ishbia in any further transaction. It also said that Justin's brother, Mat, and father, Jeff, will also be 'significant' investors. 'In no event will such a transaction take place before 2029,' according to the statement. Ishbia will make capital infusions into the White Sox as a limited partner in 2025 and 2026 that will be used to pay down debt and support ongoing team operations.
