Rams have a chance to be a 'really special group' in 2025, Sean McVay says
McVay sees 'a lot of real reasons' for optimism this year
There may be teams more talented than the Los Angeles Rams on paper but wins and losses don't always come down to pure skill. Chemistry, coaching and work ethic all come into play, as well.
The Rams have the talent to make a deep playoff run in 2025 and they also have the drive to make it happen, too. That's what has Sean McVay so excited about the upcoming season. With the offseason program wrapped up, McVay has seen a hungry team that's full of special people and players, both on the field and off it.
He feels the Rams have a chance to be a 'really special group' this season.
'What I would say is I'm very optimistic about what our chances to be able to come together and to be able to impact each other in a positive way,' McVay said to J.B. Long. 'And you know as well as I do, want to be able to hopefully stay as healthy as we possibly can but I think the way that these guys are impacting one another, the way that we're impacting each other, I think it's got a chance to be a really special group. I feel like I say it almost every year where you're as excited as you've ever been but there's a lot of real reasons to feel that way and we're looking forward to swinging and I think kind of like we ended the last season, there was a lot of things guys can be proud of. We know every year is a new year, but there's a lot of special people that I think give you a chance because it's all about people and when you've got the right people, now how do we come together? And we're looking forward to that.'
This isn't a case of McVay being blindly optimistic about the Rams' chances to have success in 2025. Building on their late-season push last year, the Rams have improved and look to repeat as NFC West champions in 2025.
With leaders such as Matthew Stafford, Davante Adams, Rob Havenstein and Tyler Higbee on the roster, the younger players aren't lacking veterans who can keep them on the right path. And through community efforts in both L.A. and Hawaii, the Rams are building character outside of football.
If healthy, the Rams are going to be a fun team this year.

NFL top 100 player rankings include 11 NFC West players
The 49ers have five players in CBS Sports' top 100 players. A total of 11 in the NFC West make the cut. This part of the offseason brings lists and rankings of all sorts for the NFL. The Philadelphia-born coach, who has made her support of the Philadelphia Eagles well known, recently revealed that she frequently sends messages to Hurts, offering some inspiration. As a quarterback in one of the toughest NFL markets, Staley feels that Hurts could use the frequent inspiration, even though he was considered one of the "coolest cats." "I know sometimes when you play for a team that's in Philly, and you're the quarterback, and you're the star, it really is a lonely place," said Staley. "He's QB1, we lose, the city goes crazy. So, I know it's a lonely place. Sometimes I text him, 'Hey, don't get too high with the highs or low.' He doesn't... He doesn't now. He's the coolest cat that I know, but sometimes you need to hear that you're the only one who is going to feel the pressure of everybody else, because other people in other positions can just kind of go under the radar, so to speak. Although he quickly earned the support of the city after taking over as the starter during his rookie effort, beating out the struggling Carson Wentz, a sophomore slump created a negative narrative about Hurts as a franchise quarterback. Staley was happy to see Hurts overcome the narratives in 2024, putting together a second Super Bowl run and coming out on top. The pressure was on Hurts to deliver more often than not, and he ended the season by earning Super Bowl MVP honors after the Eagles took down Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. Staley's advice likely went a long way for Hurts throughout his Philadelphia journey. Since the quarterback still faces a ton of question marks with all he's accomplished, Staley will have to continue reaching out to the two-time Pro Bowler to keep him sharp in the City of Brotherly Love. Watch: The Rams had the best time singing karaoke at a bar in Hawaii
Safe to say the team-building aspect of having minicamp in Maui was a success Sean McVay mentioned this week in Maui that the Los Angeles Rams have the makings of a 'really special group' with the work ethic and camaraderie they've shown this offseason. This video of players singing karaoke at a bar perfectly encapsulates what the head coach is talking about. After wrapping up minicamp, several players stayed in Hawaii a bit longer to take in the culture on the beautiful island of Maui. A video was shared on TikTok of the Rams singing 'Unwritten' by Natasha Bedingfield at a local bar and they were having the time of their lives. Braden Fiske, Jordan Whittington and Larrell Murchison were among those in the video, all belting out the words to the hit song. NFL on FOX shared the video on Instagram, as well. McVay said he didn't know how much actual work the Rams would get done in Maui, indicating it was more about experiencing the culture and community as a team, and he was probably right. The team-building aspect of the trip certainly seems to have been a success.
