#SHOWBIZ: Dua Lipa confirms engagement to English actor Callum Turner

LONDON: Singer Dua Lipa is officially off the market.
In a recent news report, the pop superstar confirmed her engagement to British actor Callum Turner, revealing he proposed with a custom-designed diamond ring, made with help from Dua's sister Rina and her closest friends.
"Yeah, we're engaged. It's very exciting," the 29-year-old English and Albanian singer, songwriter and actress told British Vogue.
Speaking about the ring, she gushed, "I'm obsessed with it. It's so me. It's nice to know the person you're going to spend the rest of your life with knows you very well."
The couple, who began dating in January 2024, haven't set a wedding date yet, with both currently focused on work commitments.
"I want to finish my tour, Callum's shooting – so we're just enjoying this period," Lipa shared.
She admitted that planning a wedding wasn't something she ever fantasised about, but her mindset is now shifting.
The 'Dance the Night' singer also expressed her hopes of starting a family one day, though she's unsure how it would align with her demanding schedule.
"I'd love to have kids one day," she said. "But it's like the constant question of when and how it would fit with my job, touring, and how much time I'd need to take off. I think it's just going to happen when it happens."
Their love story had an almost cinematic quality. Before officially meeting, Lipa and Turner, 35, unknowingly crossed paths multiple times in what she described as "many Sliding Doors moments."
Their first real introduction happened at London's River Cafe.
A year later, fate intervened again: she ran into him at a dinner in Los Angeles.

RWMF 2025: Kulāiwi to bring Hawaiian ancestral knowledge to contemporary audiences

The group, comprising Shawn Kekoa Pimental, Pono Fernandez and Lehua Kalima Alvarez said their performances are grounded in cultural memory and serve as a means of reconnecting with identity, land, and history. 'Kulāiwi means native lands, but it also means the land where our ancestors' bones are buried. 'Our ancestors hold so much mana – so much power – in their bones, and through our mele (songs) and hula, we honour that legacy and pass it forward,' said Shawn during an interview here today. According to him, traditional music and dance are not only forms of artistic expression but also cultural transmission. 'The way for us to reconnect is through music and hula. We go back to our ancient chants to rediscover what it means to be connected to our land. That informs how we walk in today's world.' Speaking about language revitalisation, Shawn explained that Hawaiian music acts as a bridge between generations. 'For our generation, we weren't raised speaking Hawaiian. We were raised speaking English. Music helps us reclaim what was lost. 'It's our way of remembering, and it's also a bridge to the future,' he said. The trio highlighted that their work is part of a larger cultural movement to revive Hawaiian language and traditions. 'We now have 'kaiapuni' – Hawaiian immersion schools – where children learn in Hawaiian from preschool. These kids are becoming native speakers, something that was nearly lost when our language was banned after colonisation,' said Shawn. They also acknowledged the intergenerational trauma resulting from language suppression. Addressing a question on preserving culture amid Americanisation and globalisation, the group cited ongoing struggles for land, language, and cultural rights. 'We thought we were making good progress, but we're still being whitewashed out of our own land. The fight continues for funding and recognition,' said Shawn. He also touched on activism linked to sacred sites such as Mauna Kea, where they had joined protests to protect the mountain from desecration by large-scale telescope construction. 'It's not that we're against against the destruction of our most sacred spaces and natural resources.' In sharing their message with global audiences at RWMF, Kulāiwi emphasised the universal relevance of cultural and ecological preservation. 'When we come to places like this, we ask for permission to be here. We stand with you in protecting the rainforest, the land, and ancestral knowledge – not just for indigenous people, but for the world,' said Shawn. Kulāiwi's performance at RWMF, scheduled to take place last night, features music that fuses traditional Hawaiian language and contemporary harmonies. ancestral knowledge Hawaii Kulāiwi native RWMF2025

Brad Pitt Drives Real McLaren F1 Car at Austin Circuit

BRAD Pitt, whose new F1 movie is out next week, has now driven a Formula One car for real after testing a McLaren at Austin's Circuit of the Americas. The reigning world champions confirmed the Hollywood A lister drove a 2023 McLaren MCL60 car at the Texas track on Thursday. Media reports said the British-based team had been carrying out a private test with F1 regular Lando Norris and F2 driver Alex Dunne. It was the first time 61-year-old Pitt, who plays the fictional racing driver Sonny Hayes in the Apple Originals movie, had driven a real Formula One car on track. The cars used in the making of the film were Formula Two cars, modified by Mercedes to look like real grand prix racers. Champions McLaren had teased the drive on Thursday with a social media post of overalls with the initials BP and the caption 'It's a Sonny day in Austin'. Seven-times world champion Lewis Hamilton, a co-producer of the movie, said in March that Pitt had shown real speed while testing the F2 cars. 'Watching Brad drive around at speeds over 180 miles an hour was really impressive to see because it's not something you can just learn overnight,' he said. 'The dedication and the focus that Brad put into this process has been amazing to witness.'
