2,500 MW solar capacity by 2027, says CM
Dehradun: Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, at an event held at the CM Camp Office in Dehradun on Thursday, said a new solar policy has been implemented in the state to promote renewable energy.
A target of 2,500 megawatts of solar capacity has been set for 2027, and special subsidies are being provided to encourage rooftop solar installations.
Under the Chief Minister's Solar Self-Employment Scheme, projects ranging from 20 to 200 kilowatts are eligible for subsidies of 20% to 50%. An additional 5% subsidy is available for women, members of scheduled castes and tribes, and persons with disabilities. A 4% loan subsidy is also being provided to support plant installation.
To ensure long-term returns, UPCL has committed to a 25-year power purchase agreement. The application and allocation process has been made fully online to ensure transparency and efficiency.
Dhami announced that women participating in the scheme will be known as "Solar Sakhi." Special camps will be organised in development blocks to promote this and other self-employment initiatives, and training for solar plant maintenance will be conducted in each district.
The CM said that 250 megawatts of solar capacity has already been achieved under the scheme. "Efforts are underway to expand it further. Solar energy is not only limitless but also environmentally friendly," he added.
