Complete road works taken up with NDB funding at earliest: Andhra Pradesh Minister BC Janardhan Reddy
VIJAYAWADA: Minister for Roads and Buildings, Investments and Infrastructure BC Janardhan Reddy has directed officials to complete the road development works taken up with the funding of New Development Bank (NDB) at the earliest.
He asked the officials to set a realistic target for completion of the road works taken up with the support of NDB by the end of 2026 with proper planning.
Holding a review meeting with representatives of NDB and R&B officials in Vijayawada on Thursday, the Minister said out of the Rs 637.76 crore worth works taken up with NDB aid, Rs 488.30 crore has been spent so far.
Taking stock of the reasons for the delay of NDB road development works in some districts, the Roads and Buildings Minister instructed the officials to resolve the issues if any, and complete the works on a war footing.

Boudh gets rail connectivity as PM flags off trains
1 2 Bhubaneswar: For the first time, Boudh district got train services after Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off two new trains and extended the services of three existing trains connecting Purunakatak and Boudh on Friday. Modi flagged off the trains after inaugurating the Sonepur-Purunakatak section (73 km) of the Khurda Road-Balangir (301 km) new line project, connecting Boudh district. This railway section was constructed at a cost of Rs 1,376 crore. With this, Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of seven railway projects worth Rs 2,750 crore. "Boudh district headquarters is now connected to the railway network for the first time after completion of this railway section. Finally, our district will be on the railway map of India, fulfilling the decades-old dream of the local people," said Seshadev Jani, a resident of Boudh district. He said people can now visit the Bhairavi temple at Purunakatak by train. "The Sonepur-Purunakatak rail section will strengthen the social and economic connectivity of this region. The PM flagged off the Boudh-Bhubaneswar New-Boudh Weekly Express (18313/18314) and Sambalpur-Boudh-Sambalpur Weekly Express (18311/18312) here. People attended the flag-off ceremony of the trains at Boudh and Purunakatak stations. The Boudh-Bhubaneswar New-Boudh Weekly Express will leave from Boudh at 7 am every Monday and reach Bhubaneswar New at 6.15 pm via Balangir-Sambalpur-Angul-Naraj. In the return direction, this train will leave from Bhubaneswar New at 11 pm on Mondays and reach Boudh at 10.30 am on Tuesdays. Similarly, the Sambalpur-Boudh-Sambalpur Weekly Express from Sambalpur will leave at 7.25 pm on Sundays and arrive at Boudh at 11.55 pm on the same day. The return train from Boudh will leave at 12.15 pm on Tuesdays and reach Sambalpur at 5.30 pm on the same day. Apart from this, the Bhubaneswar-Sonepur-Bhubaneswar Inter-City Express and two pairs of Balangir-Sonepur shuttle passenger trains will now originate from Purunakatak in Boudh district.

Online attendance at all UP Board schools from July
Prayagraj: The Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Board commonly known as UP Board will begin online attendance system for teachers and students in all govt, aided and private schools affiliated to it from July. The principals of the schools will fill the attendance of all students and teachers on a special portal daily. The demo of this digital system will be on June 23," said UP Board secretary Bhagwati Singh. Singh said the purpose is to ensure that studies are done regularly and teachers are present in school on time. "This will also prevent fake attendance too. Also, getting real data of student attendance will help in controlling the dropout rate and monitoring the studies of the students," he said. In another important development, new textbooks of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) syllabus will be available in this session in the first week of July. UP Board included NCERT syllabus in 36 major subjects from the academic session 2018-19. NCERT did not give permission to print new books in 2021-22 due to non-payment of royalty. Permission was given on the request of UP Board for payment of royalty, but later it was not paid. In such a situation, NCERT did not give permission to print new textbooks for the session 2024-25. After this, the Board sent a letter to the govt. After getting permission from the govt, the board secretary paid the outstanding royalty of Rs 2.99 crore. Following this, the Board completed the tender process for printing books and issued a work order. The task of printing textbooks and making them available in the market has been given to four printers.

Election Commission allows post-result mock polls to check EVM integrity
Representative Image NEW DELHI: Election Commission has revised its standard operating procedures (SOPs) for post-result checking of burnt memory or microcontroller of EVM (EVM C&V), allowing the candidates who finished second or third, to also opt for a mock poll on the selected EVM units, in addition to the simple diagnostic check already offered. As per the earlier SOPs issued on June 1, 2024, EVMs could be subjected to C&V as a set, that is, a combination of ballot unit, control unit and VVPAT, as used in an actual election. A diagnostic check would be performed under the supervision of the district in-charge engineer of the manufacturer, Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) or Electronics Corporation of India Ltd (ECIL) and the district election officer. There was no provision for a mock poll. The new administrative SOPs, issued on June 17, 2025, have also split the charges to be paid by the candidates applying for EVM checks, into two slabs. While plain EVM C&V charge is now fixed at Rs 23,600, inclusive of 18% GST, C&V check with mock poll will cost the applicant candidates Rs 47,200 (GST included). These charges shall be payable to the EVM manufacturer. The new SOPs have also cut the period for the chief electoral officer to send the consolidated list of EVM C&V applications received, to the EVM manufacturers, to 15 days from the date of declaration of result, against 30 days earlier. Meanwhile, in another important decision, EC, concerned at the possible misuse of still and video records maintained by it for each stage of the election process, has fixed the period of retention of such records to 45 days, provided no election petition is filed. Time limits ranging from six months to a year were previously laid down for retention of photos and videography from different stages of elections - pre-nomination, nomination, EVM preparation, polling, counting and declaration of result - even though not mandatory under the law. "The instructions to destroy records after 45 days is prospective," an EC official told TOI, hinting that they may kick in only with the upcoming Bihar assembly poll. "The retention period is in sync with the 45-day time-bar for filing election petitions. When an election petition is filed, the relevant records will not be destroyed till after the petition is disposed of finally," added the officer. EC, in a letter sent to the all state CEOs on May 30, had justified the modified instructions by citing the "recent misuse of this content by non-contestants for spreading misinformation and malicious narratives on social media by selective and out-of-context use of such content, which will not lead to any legal outcome".
