Pahang gets RM858m for roads, clinics, conservation under 12MP, says state exco
KUANTAN, April 24 — The federal government has allocated more than RM858 million under the Fifth Rolling Plan (RP5) of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) for Pahang to implement road infrastructure projects.
State Public Works, Transport and Health Committee chairman Datuk Razali Kassim said the funds were channelled through the Ministry of Works to implement two road upgrading projects involving allocations of RM100 million and RM124.82 million.
He added that RM320 million was also channelled through the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development for five other projects, including the upgrading of Jalan Pos Sinderut in Lipis.
'All these projects are at the Public Works Department design stage,' he said when winding up the debate on the motion of thanks for the royal address at the State Legislative Assembly sitting at Wisma Sri Pahang here yesterday.
On healthcare, Razali said RM28.98 million has been allocated for 40 dilapidated clinics in the state, involving 12 demolish-and-rebuild projects and 28 repair and upgrade works, all of which are underway and expected to be completed by November.
In response to complaints that the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital in Temerloh only has six Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds, he said the claim was unfounded, adding that the hospital provides critical care services with 18 ICU beds for adults and 31 Neonatal ICU beds for infants.
Meanwhile, state Welfare, Women and Family Development Committee chairman Datuk Sabariah Saidan said that, as of March, the Social Welfare Department (JKM) has provided monthly financial aid to 30,456 recipients in Pahang.
She said the temporary financial assistance initiative involved an expenditure of over RM14 million and aimed to help individuals or families in need to have a better quality of life.
State Local Government, Housing, Environment and Green Technology Committee chairman Datuk Mohammad Fakhruddin Mohd Ariff said the state government planned to establish another Seladang Conservation Centre at Jalan Bukit Rengit, Lanchang.
'The Wildlife Department is in the process of applying for funding under the 13MP for the project. If approved, there will be two seladang conservation centres in Pahang, strengthening ex-situ conservation efforts,' he said.
He added that the state government would also continue with phase 6 of the Pahang People's Housing programme this year, with a total of 470 housing units to be developed at a value of RM36 million.

Kemas teacher salary scheme to be revised
BANGI: The Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) will review the salary scheme for Community Development Department (Kemas) teachers, aiming to elevate their role and better protect their welfare. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the welfare of Kemas teachers, whether in terms of allowances, promotion opportunities, social protection or recognition, must be prioritised and structured appropriately. 'To raise outstanding children, we must start by uplifting their educators. We cannot expect extraordinary results if our teachers are only provided with the bare minimum. 'That is why I want a comprehensive and phased strategic improvement plan implemented for Kemas educators,' said Ahmad Zahid, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, when launching the Kemas Educators' Day celebration here today. Also present were KKDW secretary-general Datuk Muhd Khair Razman Mohamed Annuar and Kemas director-general Datuk Mohd Hanafiah Man. Meanwhile, he said KKDW aims to establish at least one kindergarten (tabika) for children with special needs in every district nationwide by 2027. He said this effort was to ensure that children with special needs are not left behind in receiving early education through the implementation of the Tabika Tunas Istimewa@Kemas, which begins this year. 'This initiative will start in Melaka this year. God willing, we will try to ensure that no Malaysian child is left behind in accessing early education, regardless of their circumstances,' he said. On the Smart Classroom@Kemas project, a pilot initiative for smart classrooms introduced by Kemas, Ahmad Zahid said it would be a game changer in propelling the early childhood education system into the digital era. 'My aspiration is for at least one smart kindergarten to be established in every district by 2026,' he said, expressing hope that skills-based education, such as technical and vocational education and training (TVET), could begin from an early stage. Ahmad Zahid also expressed pride in other Kemas achievements, including the graduation of 61,032 young huffaz (Quran memorisers) through the Kemas Pre-Tahfiz Programme at 4,229 centres. 'This programme is one of the major accomplishments that I consider a game changer in the early childhood education system. Starting with just 100 kindergartens in 2023, the programme has seen rapid growth. 'God willing, by 2026, we are targeting more than 9,700 Tabika Kemas to be involved, with the participation of over 145,000 young huffaz, surpassing our initial target of 140,000,' he said. He added that to date, Kemas operates 10,567 kindergartens and 577 nurseries (taska) nationwide, providing care and early education to 221,012 children from diverse backgrounds.

Kijal assemblyman Razali ordered to enter defence on sedition charge
KUALA LUMPUR: The Sessions Court here today ordered Kijal Assemblyman Datuk Razali Idris to enter his defence on a charge of making a speech of seditious nature, alleging government influence over the judiciary, at the launch of the Kemaman by-election machinery two years ago. Judge Norma Ismail made the order after finding that the prosecution had succeeded in establishing a prima facie case against Razali, 58, who is also the former Bersatu Information Chief, at the end of the prosecution's case. "After examining the evidence and submissions of both parties, the court found that the prosecution had succeeded in establishing a prima facie case. "Therefore, the accused is called to defend himself on this charge," said the judge, who then set the trial date for four days on Sept 26 and 30 and Oct 2 and 3. The proceedings were attended by deputy public prosecutors Datuk Badiuszaman Ahmad and Muhammad Amir Hannif Ahijman, and lawyer Awang Armadajaya Awang Mahmud, representing Razali, who is also the Terengganu Tourism, Culture, Environment and Climate Change Committee chairman. On Nov 24, 2023, Razali pleaded not guilty to making a speech of a seditious nature between 9.30 pm and 11.30 pm on Nov 10 of the same year at the launch of the Kemaman by-election machinery at Padang Astaka Chukai, Kemaman in Terengganu.
