Absolutely Everything We Know About Sam Taylor-Johnson
It's been an exciting week for red carpets. Under 24 hours after Jurassic World Rebirth made its premiere in Leicester Square, London, the highly anticipated 28 Years Later had its world premiere.
The film is a sequel to Danny Boyle's post-apocalyptic horror film, and features a star-studded cast including Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes and Alfie Williams, a 14-year-old newcomer set to make an impact on the big screen.
The film is set 30 years after the original, and focuses on how humanity has adapted to survive. True to the film's style, the red carpet was decorated with biohazard signs and in one section, several skulls.
Joining Aaron on the red carpet was his wife, Sam Taylor Johnson, who he's been with for 15 years. The pair put on a loved up display at the premiere, and lots of people are curious to know more about the woman who captured Sam's heart.
Sam Taylor-Johnson is a director, whose debut was Nowhere Boy, in which Aaron played a future John Lennon. It was hugely successful, and Sam went on to cement her name in the industry. In an interview with Vanity Fair, she spoke about her decision to cast Aaron as John Lennon.
'It wasn't about, "Oh this guy looks like Lennon,"' Sam told the outlet. 'Because I think, as you said, by the time you finish watching the film it doesn't matter that Aaron's not identical to him. He's sort of embodied the spirit of him, which I think was much more important to try and get across.'
Over her career, Sam has a number of successful movie titles under her belt, including Back to Black, Fifty Shades of Grey, and A Million Little Pieces.
Sam Taylor-Johnson was born on 4 March 1967, making her 58-years-old. This means there's a 23-year-age gap between her and Aaron, who is 35-years-old.
The pair have addressed this age gap in past interviews. 'I don't really analyse our relationship,' Sam told Mr. Porter. 'I just know that it works. I just feel secure and loved and safe. We have this very deep connection. We're just in sync.'
In a 2017 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Sam said: 'If I gave a second thought to other people, I would be the unhappiest person, probably still in a miserable marriage. People like to talk about it. I'm like, 'Yeah, but it works better than my last marriage'. It's lasted longer than a lot of my friends' marriages.' Prior to meeting Aaron, she was married to the art deal Jay Joplin for eleven years, and the couple have two daughters.
Aaron told The Telegraph in 2019 he 'knew instantly' that Sam was his 'soulmate'.
The couple had a whirlwind romancer that all began on set. Aaron and Sam met in 2008 filming Nowhere Boy, which was Sam's directorial debut. Aaron was 18 when they met, and Sam was 42. Things moved pretty quickly from there; the pair the following year and got married in 2012 after having two children together, who were born in 2010 and 2012.
'We were very professional through the entire film. ... But everyone on set knew. And as soon as we finished, he told me he was going to marry me. We had never been on a date, or even kissed,' Sam told Harper's Bazaar in 2019.
Aaron added: 'And a year to the minute after we met, exactly one year to the minute, I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me.'
In a 2013 interview with The Independent, Aaron gushed that Sam was a wonderful mother. 'My whole thing, my priority, is my family, my kids, and my wife,' he told the newspaper. 'That's my future. I don't really care about what role is next. I don't live to act, to go from job to job ... I live for my wife and my kids and I wake up to them and that's what I enjoy.'
Sam was previously married to Jay Jopling, an art dealer and gallerist, and Sam was working as a photographer at the time. The couple wed in 1997 and had two children together, before announcing their split in 2008.
In a joint statement, they said: 'Jay Jopling and Sam Taylor-Wood are saddened to announce that, after 11 years of marriage, they have agreed amicably to separate. No other parties are involved.'
The statement continued, 'For the sake of their two daughters, who are their number one priority, they have asked that their privacy be respected.'

28 Years Later review: Another relentless apocalyptic horror from Danny Boyle
Danny Boyle and Alex Garland have produced another horror masterpiece with 28 Years Later , the third instalment in the '28 Days' universe. The director and writer were not heavily involved in the followup, '28 Weeks Later', but they make a triumphant return in the new film. It is partly shot on iPhones, something introduced by Boyle with 28 Days later, and this contributes to the frantic and anxiety-inducing pace of the film as our new protagonisted go up against the infected. Advertisement This includes new additions to the creatures that were produced about the rage virus, including the terrifying 'alphas' who are able to effortlessly rip people's heads off. While the film is full of the action we saw in its two predecessors, Boyle and Garland manage to include a commentary on British society. With the rest of the world operating as normal as the 21st century rages on, Britain is quarantined to keep the infected from reaching the rest of the world, with navies patrolling its waters. In a remote island, survivors life a primitive but peaceful and safe existence, accessible to the foreboding 'mainland' only by a causeway only accessible when the tide recedes. Advertisement With Britain stuck in the past, it's hard to avoid the intended Brexit parable. This is only accentuated by Boyle's use of black and white World War footage, and a haunting score which includes 1903 poem " Boots " by Rudyard Kipling , recited by American actor Taylor Holmes. Jamie (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) brings his 12-year-old son Spike (Alfie Williams) to the mainland to get his first kills in an almost ritualistic expedition, against the advice of the communiy's elders who warn that Spike is far too young. Ralph Fiennes in 28 Years Later. The horrors they encounter leave a mark on father and son, but Spike is determined to return to seek a cure for his seriously ill mother Islan ( Jodie Comer ). This is where we once again enconter Dr Ian Kelson (Ralph Fiennes). A key character in the first film, Dr Kelson steals the show once again. His descent into madness, looking like Colonel Kurtz in Apocalypse now, isn't quite what it seems, despite the temple of skulls he has amassed. The ending sets things up nicely for 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, which is due for release in January 2026.

28 Years Later director reveals 'nightmare' of shooting naked zombie scenes
28 Years Later director Danny Boyle has opened up on the challenges the crew faced while shooting nude zombies. The third film in the franchise hit cinema screens 23 years after 28 Days Later was released, revolutionising the zombie subgenre in the process. The film, starring Cillian Murphy and Naomie Harris, was followed by 2007 sequel 28 Weeks Later, but 18 years of silence followed, with rumours constantly swirling that a third film was coming. Last year, Boyle and original writer Alex Garland confirmed 28 Years Later was in the works, and its eagerly anticipated release has been met with rave reviews from critics branding it 'a masterpiece.' The film has the same Rage-infected creatures we were introduced to more than two decades ago, with some interesting evolutionary changes upping the ante. Many of the monsters in the film appear naked as they chase after the ensemble cast, featuring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Alfie Williams, Jodie Comer, and Ralph Fiennes. 'I mean, if you're recently infected, you'd have some clothes, but if you've been infected for a long time, the clothes would just disintegrate with the way that you behave,' Boyle told People. However, the presence of 14-year-old newcomer Williams on set meant that actors portraying the zombies could not actually be naked around the minor under the Child Sex Offences Act. Boyle said the crew 'never knew that' when shooting, describing the process of creating a naked illusion as a 'nightmare.' 'Interestingly, because there was a 12-year-old boy on set, you're not allowed for anybody to be naked, not really naked, so they look naked, but it's all prosthetics,' he explained. More than two decades after Danny Boyle and Alex Garland masterminded 28 Days Later, they have at last returned. The much-anticipated 28 Years Later was released in UK cinemas on Friday after being praised by a host of industry critics following early screenings. Dubbed the 'best post-apocalyptic horror-thriller I have ever seen' by The Daily Mail's Brian Viner, Boyle and Garland assembled a star-studded cast for their latest endeavour. Ralph Fiennes puts on a 'scene-stealing' performance as Dr. Kelson while fellow Brit Aaron Taylor-Johnson is 'marvelous' as Jamie, the father of the movie's young protagonist Spike (Alfie Williams). But watching the movie's incredible cast make their debut in Boyle and Garland's franchise brings back memories of a little-know Cillian Murphy waking up alone in a London hospital some 23 years ago in the original 28 Days Later. Long before winning his Oscar, Murphy shot himself to stardom with his performance as bicycle courier Jim in the 2002 blockbuster. It wasn't just Cillian who went on to enjoy huge success following the original movie, with fellow castmembers Naomie Harris and Christopher Ecclestone too becoming stars. But as the franchise returns, what became of the rest of the 28 Days Later cast? MailOnline has all the answers. Cillian Murphy as Jim Cillian Murphy got his breakthrough as the lead in 28 Days Later. He played Jim, a bicycle courier who survived the Rage Virus outbreak while in a coma in hospital - waking up to a decimated London. The role was actually written for Ewan McGregor, but the Scottish actor turned it down, opening the door for Murphy - a relative unknown. Three years later, Murphy appeared in the first of a hugely successful set of films with director Christopher Nolan as Scarecrow in Batman Begins. Speaking to Josh Horowitz for the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the actor revealed that Nolan was convinced to cast him in the role after watching 28 Days Later. However, in 28 Weeks Later, Jim's whereabouts are unknown, although it is presumed that he survived and is residing somewhere in Europe. Naomie Harris as Selena Noamie Harris was another who enjoyed a breakthrough performance in 28 Days Later (left), winning the Black Reel Outstanding Breakthrough Performance Award. Pictured right on April 23, 2024 Naomie Harris starred as the female lead in 28 Days Later - Selena, another survivor of the Rage Virus. She comes across Jim as he is escaping the infected in London and takes him to a hideout in the London Underground. Like Murphy, Harris was something of an unknown in 2002 and this performance earned her the Black Reel Outstanding Breakthrough Performance Award. In the following years she starred in Pirates Of The Caribbean and James Bond movies Skyfall (2012) and Spectre (2015) before starring in the acclaimed 2016 movie Moonlight. She was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars, BAFTAs, Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards for her role as Paula in the drama. Christopher Eccleston as Major Henry West Christopher Eccleston was comparatively established in 2002 after starring in Shallow Grave (1994), but he went on to appear more in TV. The Irish actor won an Emmy for Into The Storm (2009) and also starred in the hugely successful 2022 comedy-drama The Banshees Of Inisherin - again with Farrell. Megan Burns as Hannah Megan Burns was only 16 when she played Hannah - Frank's daughter - in 28 Days Later. However, the actress left acting after the movie to go into music under the name Betty Curse, releasing the rock album Here Lies Betty Curse in 2006, but no more. According to her Instagram, Burns is now an 'artist manager'. Ray Panthaki as Private Bedford Ray Panthaki performed a relatively minor role aged 23 in 28 Days Later - as Private Bedford - but has gone on to big things since. In BBC series Boiling Point (2021), featuring Steven Graham as its lead, Panthaki played Freeman - for which he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the British Independent Film Awards. The actor was also executive producer of the show, and he has also directed a handful of short films.
