These trains from Chennai to run up to Kanyakumari for a month
CHENNAI: Passengers bound for Kanyakumari will have more direct train options from Chennai over the next month, as several Nagercoil-bound trains are being extended to Kanyakumari due to temporary engineering work at Nagercoil yard. Starting June 22, Southern Railway will extend key superfast trains, including the Tambaram–Nagercoil and Chennai Central–Nagercoil services, to Kanyakumari. Trains nos 22657, 12667 and 12689 from Chennai will stop briefly at Nagercoil before proceeding to Kanyakumari. The return services -- Train Nos 22658, 12668 and 12690-- will begin their journey from Kanyakumari instead of Nagercoil, with adjusted departure times to maintain schedule alignment. However, commuters relying on the budget Antyodaya Express train will need to take note. From June 22 to July 22, Tambaram–Nagercoil Antyodaya (Train No. 20691) will be short-terminated at Tirunelveli, skipping Nagercoil and Kanyakumari. Its return service (Train No. 20692) will also start from Tirunelveli instead of Nagercoil.

Redevelopment at Egmore affects train timings; Gummidipoondi hit by cancellations; Five express trains to start or end at Tambaram
Chennai: As part of ongoing redevelopment work at Chennai Egmore station, five express trains—Kollam, Mannargudi, Tejas, Guruvayru, and Tiruchendur—were temporarily shifted to start or end at Tambaram instead. To help passengers reach connecting express trains on time, Southern Railway advanced the early morning Tambaram–Chennai Beach EMU to 3:15 am, and the return service now departs Beach at 4:25 am. These tweaks, effective from June 20 to August 18, aim to provide first-mile connectivity for long-distance travellers using Tambaram. Additional minor adjustments were made to EMU timings on key routes like Arakkonam and Chengalpattu. On Sundays, a pair of early morning passenger specials between Tambaram and Beach will help early commuters catch their connecting express trains from Tambaram. However, while changes in the Tambaram corridor are designed for smoother connections, the Gummidipoondi line continues to see major disruptions. Due to ongoing engineering works between Gummidipoondi and Kavaraipettai from 1:15 pm to 5:15 pm on June 21 and 22, over 15 EMU and MEMU trains were cancelled this weekend alone, including popular morning services to Sullurpet and Gummidipoondi from Moore Market Complex. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like One of the Most Successful Investors of All Time, Warren Buffett, Recommends: 5 Books for Turning...
