Happy that my hard work paid off, says AP topper in JEE (Advanced) Vadlamudi Lokesh

'I was fast asleep when my brother Karthikeya woke me up and broke the news of my success in the JEE exam. The house erupted in celebrations. I am still excited,' said an excited Vadlamudi Lokesh, who secured an all-India 10th rank in the JEE (Advanced) 2025 and is also the State topper.
IIT-Kanpur announced the results in the early hours of Monday for the entrance exam conducted on May 18. Lokesh had appeared for the exam from the IIT Hyderabad zone and secured 317 marks, placing him in the top 10 of the Common Rank List (CRL).
His father, Venkaiah Naidu, who works with a Dutch-based NGO, and mother, Sailaja, a homemaker, are elated over their son's achievement. 'Ï worked really hard and was confident that the amount of hard work I invested in my preparation for the exam, would pay off,' he says, adding that he was expecting a rank below 60. 'To know that I had done way better and had scored 10th rank came as a pleasant surprise,' he told The Hindu on Wednesday.
Lokesh is keen on joining IIT-Bombay and pursue a course in Computer Science Engineering (CSE). 'My aim is to start my own company in the future and pay back to society,' says the young achiever. After completing his schooling in different places, including his primary education in Ethiopia, he joined the Narayana campus at Kanuru in Vijayawada for intermediate education.
Students of IIT Hyderabad zone performed exceptionally well this year, securing five positions in the top 20. Arnav Singh from Hyderabad bagged the 9th rank with 319 marks, while Lokesh secured 10th position. Dharmana Gnana Rutvik Sai, also from Andhra Pradesh, secured 18th rank and topped in the OBC-NCL category at the national level. Vangala Ajay Reddy from Nellore stood 19th and secured first rank in the GEN-EWS category, followed by Avanaganti Anirudh Reddy, who secured 20th position.

Croc seen in Powai lake, right behind IIT-B hostel
Mumbai: A local nature lover and Save Powai Lake activist recently spotted and photographed a crocodile at the lakeside, behind hostel 17 of the IIT-Bombay campus. The green activists have once again urged the civic body to fully clean Powai Lake to safeguard the biodiversity at this water body. Photographer Ramesh Kamble, with his Instagram handle posted a video of the crocodile observed behind the IIT-B hostel, which has created considerable interest among activists. NatConnect Foundation, which, along with local resident groups, is running a campaign to clean up and conserve the wetland, called for a census of the crocodiles in the lake. "There were supposed to be 18 crocodiles present in the lake as per a study done a few years ago, but a fresh crocodile count should be done now," NatConnect director B N Kumar said. Environmentalist D Stalin noted, "Besides water pollution at Powai lake, it is observed that the basking and nesting sites of crocodiles here are severely disturbed due to human activities. A new 5-star hotel building has been constructed near the lake, while IIT has also installed metal grills to stop crocscoming into their campus. I have earlier mentioned this to BMC."

BCD to set up centre for fire safety on IIT-Patna campus
Patna: Building construction department (BCD) is set to establish a 'Centre of Excellence for Fire Testing, Training, and Research Laboratory' on the campus of the Indian Institute of Technology-Patna. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) will soon be signed to set up the centre. The facility will assist in selecting modern equipment for fire safety in ongoing and future projects; evaluating the fire resistance of materials used; assessing damage to building structures after fires; retrofitting damaged structures, and investigating fire propagation patterns. The govt will spend around Rs 17.3 crore on this ambitious project, which was recently cleared by the state cabinet. Kumar Ravi, secretary of the BCD, said the facility will be a significant step towards ensuring fire safety in buildings. "A separate building for fire testing, training, and research centre will be constructed on the IIT-Patna campus, for which land will be allocated by the institute. Discussing the objective of the facility, the secretary said it will test and inspect the fire resistance of materials and equipment used for fire safety in projects implemented or to be implemented by the BCD and other departments or corporations. "The facility will provide training to engineers on fire safety and engineering, rescue methods, assessment of damage to buildings after fires, and methods and measures for strengthening them, as well as training related to protective and rescue operations during fires. Additionally, it will also focus on the prevention of fire incidents and safety measures like sprinkler systems and smoke detection in buildings," Ravi told this reporter. Research at this facility will study the impact of fire on the structural components of buildings, the type of fire spread in multi-storey buildings, and the fire-resistant capacity of locally available construction materials. The secretary added, "The proposal for the MoU between BCD and IIT-Patna has been sent to the institute. Once it is finalised, the agency will be hired to prepare the detailed project report for the project."
