Uttarakhand CM Dhami inaugurates, lays foundation stone of 27 projects in Nainital worth Rs 126 crore 69 lakhs
Nainital (Uttarakhand) [India], June 7 (ANI): Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of 27 development projects of Nainital district worth about 126 crore 69 lakhs in a program organised at Lalkuan, Nainital on Saturday. These projects include schemes related to education, road, medical, irrigation, sewerage, urban development, beautification and destitute cow protection.
During this, 9 schemes were inaugurated at a cost of 25.93 crores and foundation stone were laid for 18 schemes at a cost of 100.76 crores.
The Chief Minister said in his address that these projects will strengthen the infrastructure of the area and provide better facilities to the citizens. Appreciating the nationwide development work being done under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said that India is becoming a leader in every field including defence, science, sports and infrastructure today. He mentioned the changing power and resolve of the country, referring to 'Operation Sindoor', the abolition of Article 370 and the construction of a rail bridge in Kashmir.
The Chief Minister said that in order to make Nainital district an ideal district, projects like Mental Hospital, Cancer Institute, Ayush Hospital, Open Gym, Ambedkar Park, Ring Road, Bypass Road, Astro Park, Pollinator Park and Sports University are being implemented rapidly. Waste Management and Sewerage Management schemes have been started to make Haldwani a clean and green city, while multi-storey parking is being constructed to overcome the problem of jam. Efforts like the Jamrani Multipurpose Dam Project and Industrial Smart City in Khurpiya will give long-term benefits to the Terai region.
The Chief Minister said that the state government is fully committed not only to development but also to protect cultural identity and social harmony. Strict steps have been taken against conversion, love jihad, land jihad etc. Uttarakhand is the first state in the country to implement Uniform Civil Code and the country's strictest anti-copying law has also been implemented here. Concrete efforts are being made under the 'Gau Sanrakshan Kanoon' for the protection of cows.
The Chief Minister said that the state government has adopted a policy of 'zero tolerance' against corruption, and more than 200 corrupt people have been sent to jail in the last three years. He appealed to the public that all citizens will have to participate in the development journey to make Uttarakhand the leading state of the country.

Flood protection work in Indira Gandhi Sports Complex, construction of damaged canals in Fatehpur, Kamaluwaganja, Gunipur, Paniyali and Bachhinagar, Polytechnic building in Kotabagh, construction of tube well in Rampur Chakluwa, development of Kainchidham complex, repair of tourist accommodation house in Bhawali, construction of tourism office building in Nainital, reconstruction and improvement of rural motor roads, development of Jhidapani waterfall, construction of tube wells at various places, Rajpura and Parvatiya Mohalla sewerage schemes in Haldwani, construction of cowshed (phase-2) in Lalkuan and renovation work of library in Government Girl's Inter College Haldwani. Two Army veterans shared their thoughts on the internal and external threats to India's security, especially after Operation Sindoor. Lieutenant General P.R. Shankar and Major General Rajiv Narayanan shared their thoughts during the event 'Internal and External Threats to India's Security post Op Sindoor' organised by 'We the People of Chennai' in Narada Gana Sabha in Chennai on Sunday. Lt. Gen. Shankar said Pakistan was a 'familiar enemy' and China was a 'difficult enemy' because not much was known about it. Post Operation Sindoor, the whole game has changed, he said. Sharing his thoughts on the threat from China, Maj. Gen. Rajiv Narayanan underlined the domestic issues being faced by China and contended that demography was the major challenge being faced by that country. China 'lost trust' from the rest of the world, he said, contending that Beijing said one thing but did something else. In the prevailing tensions between Israel and Iran, its influence in West Asia and other areas was 'collapsing', he contended. 'What is going on now within China? Tremendous power struggle. Out in the open!' he said and went on to contend that Chinese president Xi Jinping was being sidelined. People in China were totally opposed to the Community Party and wanted democracy, he said. 'But, what you have to realise is that a decline in China is very dangerous. They strike out to externalise their internal problems.' Convenor of 'We the People of Chennai,' Ramaswamy Meyyappan, said that the event was organised also to rekindle a sense of national pride. 'We need to foster, create awareness and support for our armed forces, paramilitary forces and internal security institutions.' Lieutenant Colonel S.V. India Will Not Run Short Of Fuels Due To Middle East Tensions: Hardeep Puri
New Delhi: Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Sunday allayed fears over any disruption in oil supplies to Indian consumers due to the Israel-Iran war and further escalation in geopolitical tensions in the Middle East because of the US bombing of Iran's nuclear sites. "We have been closely monitoring the evolving geopolitical situation in the Middle East since the past two weeks. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we have diversified our supplies in the past few years, and a large volume of our supplies does not come through the Strait of Hormuz now," the minister said. He pointed out that the country's oil marketing companies (Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum) have supplies for several weeks and continue to receive energy supplies from several routes. "We will take all necessary steps to ensure the stability of supplies of fuel to our citizens," the minister assured. Iran is situated on the northern side of the Strait of Hormuz/Persian Gulf, through which 20 million barrels of oil per day flow from major exporting countries such as Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Iran had threatened to block this route if the US intervened in the conflict with Israel. A wider Middle East conflict is expected to have an impact on oil supplies from Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait and the UAE, which would lead to a sharp spike in oil prices. Shipping could also get hit as Yemen's Houthi rebels have already warned that they would resume their attacks on ships if the US attacked Iran. India imports around 85 per cent of its crude oil requirement, and a surge in oil prices leads to an increase in its oil import bill and pushes up the rate of inflation, which hurts economic growth. The larger outgo of foreign exchange also leads to a weakening of the rupee vis-a-vis the US dollar. However, India has diversified its oil sources by increasing imports from Russia as well as the US and building resilience through strategic reserves. Highlighting the infrastructure milestones in the oil and gas sector, Puri had earlier said that the country now has 23 modern operational refineries with a total capacity of 257 million metric tonnes per annum to produce petroleum products. The minister also highlighted the ministry's initiative in setting up storage facilities for strategic petroleum reserves, on which the country can fall back in times of emergency and which assume importance during times of geopolitical uncertainty. These reserves can also be dipped into at times when global prices skyrocket to provide a cushion to the national oil companies. The minister mentioned that the storage capacity at Pudur is 2.25 million metric tonnes (MMT), the Visakhapatnam facility has the capacity to store 1.33 MMT of crude oil, while Mangalore has a storage capacity of 1.5 MMT. Besides, another strategic reserve facility is being built at Chandikhol, which is also on the coast.

Israel-Iran Conflict: India has debunked the claims that its airspace was utilised during the US' Operation 'Midnight Hammer', which targeted key Iranian nuclear facilities, sparking heightened tensions between Israel and Iran. Amid escalating regional conflict, India has maintained its territorial integrity, refuting any claims of involvement or facilitation in the operation. As tension simmers across West Asia, on June 22, the Government of India stepped in and doused the misinformation. Viral posts on social media claimed that US bombers used Indian airspace to reach Iranian targets. The claim quickly snowballed, dragging India into the storm. But within hours, the country's official fact-checking wing, the Press Information Bureau (PIB), issued a denial. In a post on the social media platform X, PIB Fact Check informed that Indian Airspace was not used by the US during the Operation to strike Iran's nuclear sites. The clarification did not only aim to clear confusion. It was also a signal that India does not want to be perceived as playing any role, direct or indirect, in the spiraling conflict between Iran, the United States, and Israel. In the wee hours on June 22, American stealth bombers targeted three nuclear installations deep inside Iran. That attack was quickly dubbed 'Operation Midnight Hammer' and has sharply raised the temperature in an already volatile region. With global air routes under scrutiny and military flight paths being tracked by amateur sleuths, speculation began to swirl. Some claimed that the most logical route for US aircraft involved passing over Indian skies. But aviation experts pointed out early on that long-range bombers like the B-2 Spirit have enough fuel and support infrastructure to operate from bases like Diego Garcia or American carriers in the Arabian Sea, without needing Indian airspace at all. Israel-Iran Conflict The conflict between Israel and Iran began when Jerusalem launched 'Operation Rising Lion' on June 13, striking Iranian military and nuclear sites. In response, Tehran also launched massive drone and missile attacks on the Israeli region. PM Modi's Call With Iranian Prez The Ministry of External Affairs, in a release, informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a telephone call from the President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, on Sunday following the American airstrikes. Iranian President briefed PM Modi "in detail and shared his perspective on the current situation in the region", especially the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister expressed India's deep concern at the recent escalations and conveyed that New Delhi is on the side of 'peace and humanity.' PM Modi emphasised the need for immediate de-escalation, dialogue, and diplomacy as the way forward. The Politics Of Perception In the age of satellite trackers, open-source intel, and viral disinformation, perception can become reality within minutes. A misleading tweet or doctored flight map can be enough to cause ripples on the world stage. India's public denial is, therefore, more than a bureaucratic formality. It is a firm effort to stay out of the war narrative building around Israel, the United States, and Iran. And it reflects how quickly digital misinformation can threaten to redraw geopolitical lines. As the Middle East inches toward deeper instability, India intends to stay out of the line of fire.
