It's officially mango madness in Miami—and this year, the city's favorite fruit isn't just filling smoothies and pastelitos. It's footing the bill.
That's right: A handful of Miami restaurants are now accepting ripe, locally grown mangoes as literal currency. In a sweet (and slightly surreal) twist on farm-to-table, you can now trade your backyard bounty for wings, cocktails, soft-serve and scoops of ice cream, no wallet required, reports the Miami New Times. The initiative, which runs through the end of June, taps into the city's long-standing mango mania, when South Florida's trees go absolutely bonkers and locals are practically swimming in surplus fruit.
If you're looking for spots where you can make it rain mangoes, start in Coconut Grove or Key Biscayne. Narbona is offering a scoop of creamy mango gelato in exchange for four unblemished mangoes (fist-size or bigger). One scoop per person per day is allotted, so choose your moment wisely.
Over in Miami Shores, Peel is letting fruit-laden guests swap five pounds of mangoes for a small bowl of its signature banana-based soft serve, topped with up to two extras. But don't bring your whole tree—the shop's capped mango 'payments' at 20 pounds per person. (Yes, someone did try.)
Feeling spicy? Head downtown to Tomorrowland, where bartenders are mixing up free "Spicy Nikki" cocktails—think jalapeño-pineapple tequila, agave, lime and mango purée—for anyone who brings in fresh, intact mangoes. It's a $14 value, but who's counting when your payment came from a tree in your yard?
For something savory, Tâm Tâm is going tropical-Vietnamese with a barter deal that trades five pounds of mangoes for a plate of sticky, fish sauce-glazed wings. The crowd-favorite wings are topped with crispy garlic, cilantro and lime.
And if you want to cool down the old-fashioned way, swing by South Miami's beloved Whip 'n Dip Ice Cream Shoppe, which is reviving its 'Mango Swap' for another year. Drop off your excess mangoes and you'll be rewarded with scoops made from the very fruit you just donated. Talk about local flavor.

The buzzing urban hotspot of the Saltmarket in Glasgow is about to welcome its newest foodie attraction – Scran + Roadie, the latest incarnation of the massively popular Scran café which took the Barras by storm two years ago. Now, to accommodate demand which often saw queues outside the original café in London Road, owner-chef Chris Mears is opening the doors on much bigger premises at Jocelyn Square on the historic street, opposite Glasgow Green and just down from the High Court. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad The grand opening on June 21 will be just ahead of the following month's three-day Trnsmt Festival on the Green, featuring international artists 50 Cent, Billy Clyro and Snow Patrol and many more. The multi award-winning café will have outside seating and is in the process of obtaining its drinks licence. Pizza at Scran + Roadie pic 1 The new venue at 180 Saltmarket – currently the focus of huge regeneration activity, which include attracting unique businesses and creative spaces – will feature a New York-style pizza-and-slice offering in addition to its signature bistro-café-style food and drinks. Chris, who has been in the hospitality trade since he was 15 and has run his own fine dining restaurant in Lanarkshire, said: 'This is a new chapter for Scran which started originally on Alexandra Parade in Dennistoun in 2018, moving to London Road in 2022. We have had an unbelievable reception in the Barras and we want to bring what we do to even more people. The building will triple our capacity. 'The Roadie part of the new name is a tribute to New York culture, and the city's slang term for a slice of pizza to take away. We are increasing the team from six to 15 and have been able to attract some of the best pizza talent in the business. Pizza at Scran + Roadie pic 2 Scran + Roadie will continue its commitment to high quality ingredients and will also introduce unique new dishes such as shawarma and barbecued pork shoulder and drinks such as Vietnamese coffee and salt and pepper caramel latte. Scran + Roadie is backed by the Worq Group, which specialises in building and managing luxury hotels and restaurants as well as residential complexes. Its portfolio includes Boutique 50 an award-winning boutique hotel in Finnieston, El Santo restaurant and Revolver hotel in Glasgow, Riva restaurant in Helensburgh, Hemingway's bar in Leith and Luci's, a restaurant in Lasswade. Jonathan Doherty, Founder and Director of the Worq Group, said: 'Our interest is in identifying new opportunities and responding to emerging market trends and we are pleased to be partnering with Chris Mears and his team in their new venture in a really exciting part of Glasgow. Modern Family star comes out as bisexual five years after sitcom ended
A star of Modern Family has revealed they are bisexual in a funny social media upload as they lip-synced a memorable seen from the iconic sitcom A star of iconic sitcom Modern Family has revealed they are bisexual and used a funny clip from the show in their announcement. Aubrey Anderson-Emmons took to social media to confirm the news to her fans in an amusing upload. The 18-year-old actress, who played Lily, the adoptive daughter of Cameron, played by Eric Stonestreet, and Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) in the popular comedy series shared her news on TikTok using an audio clip from season four. In the episode, a young Lily claims she is gay. And now, revealing her news, Aubrey lip-synced the scenes as she filmed herself for the platform. The clip hears the fictional character declare: "No I'm not, I'm gay! I'm gay!' after Gloria, played by Sofia Vergara, tells her she is Vietnamese. Writing over her video, Aubrey said: "People keep joking so much abt me being being gay when I literally am (I'm bi)." And in the caption, she added: "hehe happy pride month and to all a good night #modernfamily #lily #pridemonth #pride #fyp #bi." Her followers were quick to message on the post, with some also making show references. Others praised her for her upload. Aubrey was just four years old when she took on the part in Modern Family. She was cast as Lily for the show's third season in 2011. She also went on to make history as she became the youngest actress ever to win a Screen Actors Guild Award. She received the accoladed as part of the show's ensemble cast. While Aubrey hasn't been on our screens since the show ended, she has been busy performing in high school stage productions. She also shares a food review YouTube channel with her mother, called FoodMania Review. Last month, Aubrey revealed how becoming a child star came about. In a viral TikTok post, she shed light on her previous situation. In the upload, she said: "People ask things like, 'How did you know you wanted to do that when you were four? How do you know you love something when you're so young?' " She admitted: "And the truth is, you don't." However, she insisted her rise to fame wasn't forced on her. "My mom wasn't like, "You're going to do this," it was not like that," she went on. I was not abused on set or anything like that, but you don't know what you're getting yourself into at four years old when you sign a contract to be on a show." She also admitted it was "really hard" for her to grow up among so many opinions of herself.
