Rays cruise past Tigers 14-8 as Díaz hits 2 homers and Thaiss drives in 4 runs
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Yandy Díaz was 3 for 5 with two homers, Matt Thaiss drove in four runs and every Rays starter had at least one hit in Tampa Bay's 14-8 win over the Detroit Tigers on Friday night. The 14 runs given up was a season high for Detroit, which entered with the best record in the majors. Díaz hit his 19th career leadoff homer, launching a 3-2 fastball over the right-center fence. In the fifth, his solo shot extended the Rays' lead to 9-3 and gave him multiple homers in a game for the first time since May 11, 2019. Curtis Mead was 2 for 2 with three walks, three runs and an RBI. Díaz, Taylor Walls and Kameron Misner each drove in two for Tampa Bay, which is 1 1/2 games behind the first-place Yankees in the American League East. Rays starter Shane Baz (7-3) won his fourth consecutive decision, striking out six and giving up four hits in 5 1/3 innings. Tigers left fielder Riley Greene was 3 for 3 with two homers and four RBIs. It was his sixth multihomer game and third this season. He now has 29 RBIs over his last 29 games dating to May 20. Colt Keith also homered for Detroit, which has lost four of its last six. Key moment Tampa Bay chased Tigers starter Jack Flaherty (5-8) in the bottom of the third after a bases-loaded double by Walls. Flaherty has surrendered 15 combined runs over his past two starts, raising his season ERA from 3.41 to 4.83. Key stat The Rays scored four runs in the bottom of the first, their most in the opening frame since they had four in a 5-4 home win over the Angels on April 9. Up next Tigers RHP Sawyer Gipson-Long (0-0, 3.97 ERA) gets the start against Tampa Bay RHP Ryan Pepiot (4-6, 3.11). ___ AP MLB:

NFL top 100 rankings: Arizona Cardinals TE Trey McBride comes in at No. 42
Pete Prisco ranked the top 100 players of 2025 in the NFL. Only Trey McBride makes the list for the Cardinals. Every offseason, we see player rankings — top 100, top 101, top 50, whatever. Every year, we see where Arizona Cardinals players land. CBS Sports' Pete Prisco gave his top 100 list entering the 2025 season. Only one Cardinals player made the list — not Budda Baker, not James Conner. The only Cardinal to make the top 100 was tight end Trey McBride, coming in at No. 42, moving up from No. 83 a year ago. McBride finished fourth in the league with 111 catches in his breakout season. He had just two touchdown catches, which is a number that will go up this season ... count on it. McBride 100% should be on this list. He has entered the conversation as being the best tight end in the NFL. It is true that his two touchdown catches were simply fluky. He did rush for a touchdown and score once on a fumble recovery in the end zone. He was a frequent target in the red zone, but because of a couple of drops and a couple of missed throws by quarterback Kyler Murray, he didn't end up with six to eight touchdown grabs. Of course, while McBride is an easy choice for this list, two Cardinals players are notably snubbed — Baker and Conner. Baker continues to play at an elite level at safety and gets Pro Bowl nods year after year, a sign that coaches and players respect and value him. Conner's absence is disappointing because he produces among the best running backs, reaching nearly 1,100 yards last season and continuing to be a big-play runner as he advances in his career. Looking ahead to next offseason, hopefully McBride isn't alone. It would be good to see McBride, Baker, Conner, quarterback Kyler Murray and receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. in Prisco's rankings in 2026. Brewers' Jacob Misiorowski begins MLB career with 11 no-hit innings
Jacob Misiorowski's first MLB start with the Milwaukee Brewers was awesome and eventful. His second was even better. Misiorowski took a perfect game into the seventh inning Friday night, June 20, against the Minnesota Twins before he finally yielded a walk then a two-run home run to lead off the bottom of the seventh. Incredibly, the blast by Twins right fielder Matt Wallner was the first hit Misiorowski allowed in his MLB career after 11 innings of no-hit ball. Advertisement Per MLB's Sarah Langs, citing the Elias Sports Bureau, Misiorowski's 11-inning run of no-hit ball is the longest by a rookie starter to begin a career since the expansion era began in 1961. Only Austin Cox, who began his career with 11⅔ innings of no-hit ball, went longer without yielding a hit than Misiorowski, though Cox's hitless run to start his career was spread over six appearances in 2023. Misiorowski's dominance began last week, when he went 5 hitless innings against the St. Louis Cardinals before he exited the game with a freak injury. Friday night, he cruised into the seventh without yielding a hit, striking out six. He was pulled following Wallner's home run after throwing 86 pitches. The Brewers led 8-2 when he exited and tacked on nine more runs in the final two innings. Advertisement The USA TODAY app gets you to the heart of the news — fast.
