Owner of much-loved Edinburgh patisserie announces sad closure with 'heavy heart'
A much-loved Edinburgh patisserie has closed its doors, with the owner making the decision with a "heavy heart."
Écosse Éclair on Easter Road has ceased trading with owner Can Misirlioglu taking to Instagram to make the announcement after struggling with a huge work load over the past two months.
Can opened the specialist bakery in 2021 in what was a dream come true for him and his partner Tugba. Specialising in cream eclairs, the business has received rave reviews and built up a huge following in the city.

However, Can admitted the bakery has been closed for nearly two months but he struggled to make an official announcement regarding its future.
Taking on the work load of a chef, barista, owner and accountant led to a decline in Can's health. He also accidently turned off the freezer one day which led to stock being wasted as he came to the realisation he could not go on.
Can previously told Edinburgh Live: "I've been a chef for a little over 17 years now, and it's been a lifelong dream to have a place of my own. I'm very experienced with choux pastry as I've worked with lots of French chefs and learned a lot, and have been inspired by them."
He is now inviting anyone who wishes to take over the business to write to him as he takes on a new role at Duck & Waffle in the city centre.
Taking to Instagram on Friday he wrote: "With a heavy heart, I'm announcing that Écosse Éclair is now permanently closed.
"In truth, we closed our doors about two months ago — but it's taken me this long to find the right words. Words that could even begin to express how much this journey has meant to me.
"Five years ago, Écosse Éclair was born out of a dream — and from day one, I poured all my energy and love into it. Thanks to your support, I was able to turn that dream into a reality. Your encouragement, kind words, and loyalty helped me achieve more than I ever imagined. "Being a perfectionist led me to create every single éclair with care, but it also turned me into a one-man team — chef, barista, owner, accountant and many more. After five intense years of wearing all those hats, my health began to suffer. "Then, about two months ago, I accidentally turned off the freezer. Everything inside was lost. It felt like a sign — the final straw. I knew in that moment it was time to say goodbye.

"From me, and from my incredible family and friends who stood beside me through every moment of this journey — thank you. Figo and I will miss welcoming you into our little shop more than words can say. "With all my love and gratitude, Can."
He also confirmed the Instagram page, which has racked up nearly 4,000 followers, will remain active for him to share recipe's.
Dozens of customers were gutted to hear the news as they left kind messages in the comment section. One said: "Oh we're so sad, and the shop being closed this last while has definitely been missed. You brought pure quality and something different to the area. Hope you find some balance for the future, take care of yourselves."
Another wrote: "So sad to see the best eclair shop in the world being closed. Hope your new path brings you lots of joy and peace."

Ibrahima Konaté disappointed with Liverpool contract offer as talks stall
Ibrahima Konaté is stalling on signing a new deal at Liverpool, raising fears at the club that another key player could run down his contract after this summer's departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold. The French defender enters the final year of his deal next month and is understood to have rejected Liverpool's initial offer of an extension. Advertisement Related: Florian Wirtz looks ready-made to be a key piece of the puzzle at Liverpool | Andy Brassell Konaté's contract talks were delayed by Liverpool's focus on negotiating with Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk last season, with both signing new two-year deals in April before re-signing the Dutchman's defensive partner became the club's priority. The 26-year-old is understood to be disappointed by the structure of Liverpool's offer, with his representatives believed to be pushing for a higher basic wage after the offer was heavily based on meeting certain performance targets. Failure to agree a new contract with Konaté before the end of the summer would leave Liverpool with a dilemma given the furore over Alexander-Arnold's move to Real Madrid. Although Liverpool eventually banked £10m for Alexander-Arnold because of Madrid's determination to sign him in time to play at the Club World Cup that fee is a fraction of his value. Andy Robertson is also about to enter the final 12 months of his contract, with Liverpool willing to sell him to Atlético Madrid if the left-back wants to leave. The goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher joined Brentford in an £18m deal this month with one year left on his contract. Advertisement Liverpool plan to revive discussions with Konaté later in the summer but are adamant they will not be forced into overpaying. After a busy start to the transfer window during which Liverpool have done deals worth a combined £145.5m for Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong, Arne Slot's central defensive options are the one remaining area of uncertainty. Jarell Quansah is on the verge of completing a £35m move to Bayer Leverkusen, and Liverpool are monitoring Marc Guéhi's situation at Crystal Palace, with Newcastle and Tottenham also interested in the England international. As the Guardian reported, the 24-year-old has made clear he will not sign a new contract at Selhurst Park, and with 12 months left he is eager to secure a move to a club that can offer guaranteed playing time before next summer's World Cup.

Apollo to invest £4.5bn in EDF's UK energy projects
Asset manager Apollo has announced that its managed affiliates, funds and strategic accounts will invest up to £4.5bn ($6.04bn) in fixed-rate callable notes issued by Électricité de France (EDF). EDF is issuing the notes as part of its €50bn Euro Medium Term Note (EMTN) programme. The proceeds from the investment will be directed primarily into financing EDF's operations in the UK, including the Hinkley Point C nuclear power station. The deal is one of the largest sterling-denominated note issuances on record. It reinforces Apollo's long-standing history with French entities, in which it has been actively investing for nearly three decades. Apollo Partner Jamshid Ehsani stated: 'Apollo is pleased to provide this bespoke, large-scale financing to EDF in support of its vital role in advancing European energy sovereignty and power infrastructure, including in the UK.' 'This landmark transaction highlights our deepening partnership with the French government and EDF and reaffirms our commitment to being a premier capital provider to leading European companies. This is the largest-ever capital funding transaction executed by EDF and the largest private credit transaction in the sterling market.' Legal aspects of the transaction were handled by Latham & Watkins and Kirkland & Ellis representing Apollo, while BNP Paribas offered financial advice and Hogan Lovells provided legal counsel to EDF. Sructuring and arrangement services for the transaction are being facilitated by Apollo Capital Solutions Europe, further strengthening their role in shaping large-scale investments within the power industry. In December 2024, the Hinkley Point C nuclear facility successfully installed the UK's first new nuclear reactor in more than 30 years. "Apollo to invest £4.5bn in EDF's UK energy projects" was originally created and published by Power Technology, a GlobalData owned brand.

Why Professional Refrigerator Repair is Worth the Investment?
Refrigerators are a corner of any imposed contemporary living arrangement, encapsulating food safety, freshness, and punctuality of delivery. A broken appliance can set one's schedule into disarray.. At this juncture, a person has to make a choice: enter the repair mode himself or herself, purchase a new device, or call a professional in. Most homeowners hesitate in bringing in an expert, perhaps underestimating the significance of professional refrigerator repair. Understanding why this is almost always the best decision you can make will help you make sound decisions when your fridge has a problem. Professional repair technicians are not only handymen, although they are that too—they're trained to comprehend the technical infrastructure of new refrigerators. They see patterns in mechanical and electrical problems, from old models to smart fridges. From faulty compressors to temperature regulation problems, their experience informs them how to identify and fix intricate issues quickly. This degree of precision prevents chronic problems, and it ensures the fridge receives the attention it requires, not guesswork. Also, their expertise covers different companies and models across a pervasive spectrum. Once authorized as a repair professional, he or she already knows the specific details and elements involved in the French door, the side-by-side, or the bottom freezer refrigerator. What most people do not know is that expert fridge repair involves more than fixing a faulty part. Performing repair operations generally involves diagnostics, checks, and perhaps a performance test to catch a minor fault before it turns into a major one. Refrigerators are usually delicate items; a slight wrong technique will simply do them in. Substandard maintenance or improper handling may result in wear and tear of the motor, evaporator coils, or thermostat, resulting in much more significant issues later on. An honest repair company views the entire system. These testing procedures are for verification, including but not limited to refrigerant leak, malfunctioning fan motor, blocked defrost drain, and defective ice maker. These problems might not be easily identifiable by amateurs and yet significantly affect the performance of the refrigerator.. Not addressing them can cause inefficient energy consumption or even premature system failure. Inside the mind of the average man, it is just something to do to save a little money. To repair a refrigerator, one has to do a technical diagnosis. One also needs special tools and a good grasp of how the unit would itself work.. A little error—like putting in the wrong part or manipulating wiring the wrong way—can result in further costly damage. There's also the matter of safety. Refrigerators use electricity and hold refrigerants that require careful handling. Incorrect handling can not only destroy your appliance but also harm your home and health. Professional service technicians implement various safety procedures when performing their work. They learn to handle refrigerant levels and electrical parts in a responsible and controlled manner. In addition, most repair companies offer warranties on the parts and labor, so you are not stuck having to pay again if anything should fail after the repair.. With DIY repairs, there's no such backup. If neglected, fridge repair in Vancouver might lead to food spoilage, greater energy consumption, or even a baseless declaration of damage. Early signs might just indicate the very minor symptoms of strange noises, uneven temperatures, or frost buildup. When one delays making those repairs, minor problems become bigger ones, responsible for straining the motor, compressor, and finally, upsetting the precious lifespan of the entire appliance. It might have served you well enough and deserved to keep up with you a little longer if you had taken care of it by calling a professional early, with repair costs far cheaper than the price of an emergency service call. Not every problem needs to be fixed right away, though understanding when to have a professional do it is crucial. These may be the indications of something wrong: humming or clicking noises when in operation, water collecting near the bottom, or a somewhat warm freezer. Overheating or a power outage, even for a second, may pose electrical or thermostat issues that you must resolve right away. Instead of spending time on various forums or watching YouTube tutorials, a call to your local repair shop will bring instant clarity.. They can give precise diagnostics, describe the problem in plain language, and suggest the optimal action without hassle. Such honest assistance eliminates the guesswork and sets your fridge on the way to complete recovery. Over time, having experts do your refrigerator repair will save you time, eliminate bigger problems, and maintain your investment. To some extent, one can consider an initial cost, although the return provided by accuracy, safety, and long-lasting upkeep of the appliance far outweighs the price paid. That is why the worth of a reliable handyman is invaluable when it comes to essential home appliances. When your refrigerator is in trouble, don't try to be your repairman. A professional knows the techniques, has the tools, and is experienced to correct performance.' TIME BUSINESS NEWS
