Body Language Expert Says Prince William "Sad and Subdued," as Royal Aides Claim Kate Middleton Missing Royal Ascot Is "No Cause for Alarm"

Royal fans were shocked when Kate Middleton canceled her appearance at Royal Ascot on June 18 at the very last minute. Former royal butler Grant Harrold suggested Prince William would "definitely feel the void" of Kate's absence, via Spin Genie. Now, palace insiders are setting the record straight about Princess Kate's decision to skip Royal Ascot, while a body language expert has weighed in on the Prince of Wales's solo appearance. At the time, royal sources said the Princess of Wales was extremely "disappointed" to miss the prestigious event, but she needed "to find the right balance as she continues her recovery from cancer and a phased return to full duties," via The Sunday Times's royal editor, Roya Nikkhah, on X. However, GB News has since reported that "palace insiders moved quickly to quell any speculation, insisting the situation stemmed from administrative confusion rather than health concerns." As reported by GB News, "Royal sources stressed there was 'no cause for alarm' and that Kate was adhering to the guidance previously given about finding the right equilibrium in her duties." As for how an alleged mistake about Princess Kate's attendance could have occurred, GB News stated, "The administrative mix-up unfolded when Ascot executives released the day's procession list at midday, listing both the Prince and Princess of Wales in the second carriage behind The King and Queen." It would seem that, according to palace insiders, the Princess of Wales had chosen to skip Royal Ascot long before the public became aware of her decision. Body language expert Judi James analyzed Prince William's appearance at Royal Ascot on June 18, telling the Express, "While his father, The King, chatted happily to their guest in the carriage, using some animated, good-humored body language displays, William seemed to sit back quietly with a slightly slumped posture, looking subdued and rather reflective without Kate at his side." James told the outlet that the Prince of Wales appeared to be "sad and subdued" at the regal event.

Royal Expert Says Prince William Will "Feel the Void" at Royal Ascot After Kate Middleton Suddenly Cancels Appearance

After Kate Middleton's sudden decision to cancel her appearance at Royal Ascot, Prince William attended the prestigious event without his wife. Royal sources said the Princess of Wales was "disappointed" to miss the event, and royal fans were likely anticipating Princess Kate's Royal Ascot outfit. And according to a former royal employee, the Prince of Wales will "feel the void" at Ascot without his wife, too. "William holding the fort on his own isn't unusual," former royal butler Grant Harrold said on behalf of Spin Genie. "He's very well versed in attending engagements solo and he very much gets on with the job at hand. He'll be so comfortable doing these events, but obviously Kate is his partner." Harrold continued, "He will definitely feel the void of not having her at Ascot with him today. It's like The King and Queen, they want that physical support alongside them, they want the united partnership. They value each other as part of that partnership, just like William and Kate do too." Luckily, Harrold—who was King Charles's butler for 6 years—believes Prince William will find support in other family members. "Naturally, however, it's nice for William to enjoy a fun day out alongside his family," the former royal employee said. "He would have loved spending time with Charles and Camilla." Rather than being like an official royal engagement, "Ascot is quite an informal event," says Harrold, who calls the annual outing "relaxed." "The have all his friends there, it's a great social occasion for them all round," the former butler explained. While Princess Kate wasn't able to attend Royal Ascot on June 18, 2025, her mother, Carole Middleton, was in attendance, along with Kate's brother James Middleton and his wife, Alizee Thevenet. "Kate is extremely close to her family, especially her mom, and Carole has a great relationship with William too," Harrold explained. "No doubt William will be spending some time with Carole, as she gets on great with the Royal Family." The former royal butler also suggested that Carole would likely be "chatting with Queen Camilla about the horses and catching up in general."

Body Language Experts Reveal Prince William's "Inner Reaction" to Kate Middleton Being "Back Where She Should Be" During Trooping the Colour Appearance

The Princess of Wales paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth II with a special pair of earrings, and royal experts suggested King Charles views Princess Kate as a "huge asset" within the Royal Family. Now, two experts have weighed in on the Prince and Princess of Wales's chemistry at The King's birthday parade, as well as Princess Kate's return to form. Speaking on behalf of Slingo, Grant Harrold, a former royal butler who worked for King Charles, said, "Kate looked amazing, she took it in her stride and did everyone proud. She looked radiant and back where she should be—at the forefront of the Royal Family." Harrold continued, "Everyone's eyes were on William and Kate. They are the future of the monarchy, the future King and Queen. They were very confident. It was lovely to see a very modern approach to the Royal Family and Trooping the Colour." Meanwhile, Dr. Arthur Cassidy, a chartered member of the British Psychological Society, told Hello! magazine that Kate and William provided an "authentic masterclass" in subtle PDA. "Prince father and for a few milliseconds, a tight upper lip as he faces Princess Kate," Dr. Cassidy told the outlet. "This signifies his positive emotional state as he's deeply in love with wife Kate." According to Dr. Cassidy, William's body language showed he's "physically attracted" to his wife, and "this produces an intense inner emotional reaction to Princess Catherine's long-lasting loving gaze. His lips then become more relaxed." As for Princess Kate's response, Dr. Cassidy said in their analysis, "[She was] glowing with positive emotions and energy expressed in her toned body posture and facial characteristics."
