The Philadelphia Phillies have some much-needed good news regarding Bryce Harper's wrist injury.
On Friday, Harper played catch with front office executive Howie Kendrick, fielded some ground balls and took about 15 swings off a tee in the batting cage, according to Matt Gelb of The Athletic.
It's baby steps for Harper, but steps that need to be taken to get him back on the field.

TORONTO, ON - JUNE 4: Bryce Harper #3 of the Philadelphia Phillies walks to the dugout in a break in play against the Toronto Blue Jays in their MLB game at the Rogers Centre on June 4, 2025 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. More"It felt better than I thought it would," Harper told Gelb. "So I'm happy about that."
While Harper has reportedly been reassured by multiple doctors that he won't need surgery now or in the offseason, that doesn't mean he will finish the year pain-free when he does return. It will all come down to load management from the Phillies.
"Harper is all but certain to play through some continued pain this season; the goal is to make it tolerable," wrote Gelb. "Harper said the best treatment has been rest. He's now comfortable with beginning more activities on the field."
The Phillies went into Saturday one game ahead of the New York Mets for first place in the National League East.
Manager Rob Thomson was certainly happy about the progress.
"Very good," Phillies manager Rob Thomson told The Athletic. "I mean, we wouldn't do the tee (Friday) if there was any significant pain, for sure."
Gelb reported there is no specific timetable for Harper's return, but he does note the star will not go on a rehab assignment to the minor leagues. It's big leagues or bust for Harper.

Former Swansea head coach Luke Williams working at Bristol Airport while on gardening leave

Luke Williams, who was the head coach of the Championship club Swansea City as recently as February, is now working at Bristol Airport. A photo of Williams at the airport, wearing uniform, was posted on social media on Saturday, prompting a reaction of disbelief among many people, in some cases questioning whether the picture was some sort of a hoax. Advertisement A source close to Williams has since confirmed to The Athletic that the 44-year-old has been employed at Bristol Airport, which is in the south west of England, for the last two weeks. Williams' job involves helping disabled and limited-mobility passengers around the airport terminal. The former Notts County and Swindon manager is on gardening leave since being sacked by Swansea in February after 13 months in charge at the Welsh club, and, on the face of it, there is no financial need to work while he waits for another opportunity in football to come up. However, Williams has always talked about the importance of a good work ethic — 'in my opinion, motivation in life is everything', he told The Guardian in a wide-ranging interview in February 2024 — and, according to those close to him, he was keen to do something meaningful with his time rather than sit at home. It is a highly unusual tale but, at the same time, in keeping with Williams' backstory. In that interview with The Guardian, Williams explained how he had loaded lorries for British Home Stores, and also drove minibuses to and from airports and nightclubs, to help to fund his coaching career in the early days, when he was earning £1.50 ($2) for every player that attended his sessions. Williams also applied to get on an electrician's course when he left Swansea for the first time, two years ago, when he had been working as assistant manager to Russell Martin. He subsequently took over at Notts County and led the club back into the English Football League via the play-offs, playing an expansive and attractive brand of football that prompted Swansea to appoint him as head coach in January last year. Jake Fischer: Rockets might be Kevin Durant's top trade preference

Since last Saturday, it's been widely reported that the three preferred trade destinations for Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant are the Houston Rockets, Miami Heat, and San Antonio Spurs. Because the All-Star forward's current contract expires after next season, his choice to sign (or not sign) an extension carries significant weight in these talks, since many teams won't risk surrendering significant asset capital if they might lose him as an unrestricted free agent a year later. Advertisement But among those three teams, is there one in particular that Durant and his agency representation might push even harder for? Earlier this week, The Athletic's Sam Amick said it could be San Antonio, citing something the Timberwolves were allegedly told during their negotiations with the Suns (Minnesota is seemingly reluctant to bid aggressively unless Durant wants to be there). But Friday, in a Bleacher Report video, veteran NBA insider Jake Fischer (now of The Stein Line) indicated that it could be Houston that Durant most desires. 'They might be the spot that Kevin Durant wants the most, when all is said and done,' Fischer said as part of a 2025 mock draft. Should a Durant deal with the Rockets reach the finish line, Houston's No. 10 overall pick in Wednesday's first round could potentially be part of the trade. A Durant deal is reportedly possible at any time, with the upcoming draft a key date in the talks. Should Phoenix acquire a 2025 draft asset as part of the trade, finalizing a deal prior to the draft would allow the Suns to make such a selection for themselves, as opposed to having a player chosen for them by another team. Advertisement But as great as Durant is as a player, he turns 37 years old in September. Thus, Houston is reluctant to dip too deeply into its warchest of assets. That's led to an ongoing standoff in recent days, and the Rockets' hope is that perhaps Durant's leverage will ultimately win the day and force a deal on their terms.
