Watertown man who died in crash with semitruck in Dodge County June 13 identified
DODGE COUNTY – The 42-year-old Watertown man who died in a crash with a semitruck June 13 has been identified.
Dodge County Sheriff's Office identified the man as William McDonald June 14, adding the crash was still under investigation.
The crash happened on County A/I, south of County S in town of Oak Grove, at around 10:10 a.m. June 13.

Dodge County Sheriff's Office said preliminary investigation revealed a silver 2012 Buick Regal driven by McDonald was headed north on County A/I when it failed to negotiate a slight right curve, entering the southbound lane. The Buick Regal then collided with a southbound semitruck pulling a trailer.
The semi came to rest across both lanes of traffic and the Buick came to rest against a tree on the east side of the roadway.

The sheriff's office said McDonald had to be extricated from his vehicle. He was flown to a Milwaukee hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased, the sheriff's office said.
The driver of the semitruck was a 50-year-old Richton Park, Illinois, man, who sustained minor injuries and was treated at a Beaver Dam hospital.

College football has made a mess for itself. And the cleanup process includes specific programs holding each other accountable for chaos when one of them crosses the line of civil liability. That's what the University of Wisconsin and its NIL collective are doing. Wisconsin claims that Miami intentionally interfered with its contractual relationship with Lucas by inducing him to break the contract and transfer. It's a fairly simple legal principle. If one business has a contract in place with an individual and another business persuades the person to breach the contract, that business has intentionally and tortiously interfered with the contractual relationship. It's a legal theory that allows for the recovery of actual financial losses and, because it's a 'tort' claim, potential punitive damages. The rise of NIL amid the collapse of the NCAA's various rules that violated the antitrust laws has created a Wild West vibe in college football. That doesn't mean schools can ignore the clear and settled legal rights of other schools. Lawsuits like this one should prompt all colleges to tread lightly when recruiting a player who has a binding contract with another school. That said, the mere fact that one university would sue another for the financial harm arising from luring a player to leave one school for the other underscores the notion that these players are employees. The sooner they're treated as employees and not student-athletes, the easier it will be for the NCAA and its members to begin to restore proper order to a system that has become chaotic due to the scuttling of corrupt rules that impermissibly prevented players from getting paid — by anyone. As we've said more than once or twice, the colleges alone should be expected to fix college sports. It's not for Congress or the president or anyone else to get out the mop. It's for the schools to admit to the nature and extent of the mess. And it's for the schools to devise real solutions for swabbing the deck. Even if that means embracing a nationwide union, and the rights that such a union would secure for the players regarding compensation, practice intensity, and all other terms of what necessarily is an employment relationship.

Woman gives birth on Route 53 off ramp in Palatine, fire officials say
A woman gave birth by the side of the road in Palatine Friday afternoon. Illinois State Police said troopers responded to a call for a medical incident involving a mother giving birth on the ramp from Illinois Route 53 south to Palatine Road shortly before 12:30 p.m. Palatine fire officials said paramedics and firefighters responded to the same call, and found out on their way there that the woman had given birth. When paramedics arrived, fire officials said they found the baby crying and healthy, with no obvious complications. The EMTs clamped and cut the cord, then took the woman and baby into an ambulance where they comforted and cared for them before taking them to Northwest Community Hospital for further treatment and evaluation. Fire officials said the woman was being driven to the hospital for some other complaints when she began delivering her baby. Illinois State Police said both mom and baby are doing well. They have not been identified. The ramp was closed for a time as paramedics and police responded, but has subsequently reopened.
