James McGarry set for Aberdeen exit as he agrees transfer
McGarry has been on loan at Greek side Athens Kallithea since January but will now exit Pittodrie permanently and head back to Australia.
He moved to Scotland in the summer of 2023 after impressing in the A-League for Central Coast Mariners but was never able to hold down a regular starting spot, injuries and the form of Jack MacKenzie both playing their part.
The New Zealand international played 28 times in total for Aberdeen and scored one goal, in a Premier Sports Cup group game against Dumbarton.
'Sometimes things just don't quite go the way everyone plans when a player makes a move, and I think that is the case here.
'He has a lot of experience in the A-League, and with a fresh start, I am sure he'll do well there. He leaves with our thanks and best wishes for his future career.'

Morton were due to host St Mirren in a non-competitive clash on Tuesday, July 8, with both teams looking to step up their preparations for the Premier Sports Cup which gets underway just a few days later. Several corrugated iron panels on the roof had blown off as the West coast of Scotland was hit by gale force winds. Morton have still yet to fix the damage but the club tonight confirmed that repair work will begin next week. However, the friendly cannot be played while the construction takes place. A statement from the Scottish Championship club read: "The club are pleased to confirm that the long-awaited works to repair the Cowshed Roof begin on Monday. "It is expected that works will continue throughout most of July and be completed by the start of the William Hill Championship season when we welcome Dunfermline to Cappielow on 2nd August. "Following discussions with our contractor, the pre-season match scheduled against St Mirren on Tuesday 8th July has now been cancelled. "We confirm the Premier Sports Cup tie versus Stenhousemuir, due to be played at Cappielow on 15th July, will go ahead but without supporters in the Cowshed. "We will provide an update on that in due course. "We thank supporters in advance for their understanding on this matter, and look forward to having the Cowshed back in full working order for the 2025/26 William Hill Championship campaign." A statement from St Mirren said: 'Morton have today informed us that they will no longer be able to host the planned Communities Cup friendly match at Cappielow on Tuesday 8th July. 'With the match now cancelled, the club is looking at alternative options to aid our preparations for the Premier Sports Cup group stages and will update when possible.' Michael Duffy's bit of magic helps Derry City end a long wait
Duffy's seventh goal of the season was worthy of winning any game as he curled an unstoppable left-footed effort past Conor Kearns and into the top corner to earn Tiernan Lynch his first win in Dublin. The goal also got Derry back on track after a difficult spell, with this their first win in five League games. The visitors could have scored twice in the opening 10 minutes with Liam Boyce at the heart of each opportunity. There seemed no danger when Duffy dispossessed Jonathan Lunney near the halfway line, but Boyce spotted Kearns well off his goal line and went for it from 40 yards, with his effort beating the Shels goalkeeper but just flying wide of the open goal. Not even 60 seconds later, Boyce beat Kearns again after being put through on goal by Gavin Whyte. The striker raced through and brilliantly dinked the ball over the goalkeeper, but while the idea was right, the finish was lacking and it bobbled across the face of goal and wide. It was a chance Boyce should have taken. Shelbourne responded to those scares by coming close themselves at the other end when Harry Wood's corner was met with a powerful header from Sean Boyd, but his effort just flew over with Brain Maher beaten. It was a fairly entertaining game between two sides desperate for the points and Shelbourne should have taken the lead in the final 10 minutes of the half, with John Martin left in disbelief that he didn't put the ball in the net. Again Wood was at the heart of the danger for the hosts with his cross finding Paddy Barrett, who guided a header at goal with Martin attempting to guide it beyond Maher from close range, but the City goalkeeper did just enough to push the ball back onto the Shels man, with it deflecting wide for a goal kick. Derry started the second half very positively and Kearns was called into action within two minutes of the restart as he dived full stretch to push away a fierce effort from distance from Whyte. A defining 60 seconds in the game soon came to pass as a near miss at one end was followed by a goal at the other. Maher got off the hook when he came out of his penalty area and lost out to Sean Boyd, with Evan Caffrey's lobbed effort headed off the line by Kevin Holt. The Candystripes swiftly went down the other end with Duffy popping up on the right before he cut inside and curled a beautiful effort beyond Kearns and into the top corner to earn the visitors a valuable victory. On my right are the sparkling seas and ancient fortifications of Rhodes; on my left, craggy hills rise up into the blue sky. I've run a lot of different places — along New York's Brooklyn Bridge, around France's Mont Saint-Michel, even in the moat at London's Tower of London — but this is easily one of the most beautiful. Starting in the middle of town, the two large 10km loops take the runners (some who will do it twice to complete a marathon) along the water's edge, past the town's old fortified walls, around the Rhodes Windmills, before throwing a hill or two in there to really get the heart pumping. I have always wanted to do a run in Greece — it's the birthplace of the marathon. And thanks to the stunning scenery, perfect climate and cheers of supportive locals, plus 700 volunteers who beam as they hand out gels and water along the way, I'm glad I've finally made it out here. At 20km in, I see the pro marathon runners on the other side of the course. And I realise that, thanks to the trail, these gazelles are likely to lap some of the slower half-marathon runners. I better pick up my pace. Soon, it's 500 metres to go, 400, 300 . . . suddenly, in the crowd, I spot my husband cheering me on and I give it one last push, thundering over the line in 1hr 55mins. I'm happy with the result, and even happier that, for the rest of the day, I have the Greek sun — and even more importantly, Greek food — to revive me. While the shoulder season means the sun disappears behind some clouds every so often, it's still warm enough to sunbathe — and is quieter and cheaper than the summer months. And for extra luxury, you can plump for one of the swim-up suites that lead straight out onto the many pools winding their way through the resort. But if you get tired of relaxing, I would heartily recommend getting out of the hotel and exploring the local area. The Old Town in Rhodes is filled with fantastic shops and restaurants — and we fill up post-marathon with mouth-watering dolmades, tzatziki, stews and a final delectable bite of baklava. Meanwhile, you can sign up to olive oil or wine tasting courses, explore Lindos Acropolis and hike up the mountains that dot around the island. Our own trip is over too quickly, and we sit by our personal pool until the very last moment when the taxi arrives to drive us half an hour to the airport. But there's no chance I'll be forgetting this holiday. After all, unlike other trips, I have a physical medal as my souvenir. And we do all deserve a little reward now and then.
