No reason for PBS to leave GRS: Veep

PAPAR: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Vice President Datuk Ruslan Muharam rejected speculation that PBS and Parti Solidariti Tanah Air Ku (Star) might leave Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) ahead of the coming state election. The Lumadan Assemblyman said there is no reason for such action, as PBS and Star would remain in the coalition following their long-standing agreement.

'Our understanding within GRS has been established for a long time, especially as we work together in the State Government administration, bringing various initiatives for the people that have made the opposition feel threatened. Therefore, these claims are just rumours as we approach the 17th state election and there are certainly attempts to weaken GRS' strength,' he said after officiating the Lumadan PBS Division Youth Leadership Camp on Saturday. Ruslan was responding to speculation about grassroots pressure for PBS and Star to leave GRS to ensure local party aspirations are realised following concerns that GRS' potential cooperation with Pakatan Harapan (PH) could affect seats both parties wish to contest. When asked whether GRS should go solo or cooperate with PH in the state election, Ruslan personally believes the current political scenario suggests GRS should contest alone. However, he acknowledged that cooperation with PH is also important to maintain Federal-State government relations for the people's benefit. He noted that PH prefers GRS, particularly Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor, to continue leading the State Government rather than Umno, as demonstrated during the previous Langkah Kinabalu episode. 'Looking at the scenario, it would be good for us to contest solo, but cooperation between Federal and State governments is also very important and beneficial. 'We cannot just throw away PH after they supported us during the previous coup attempt, especially when PH and Umno cooperate at the Federal level. However, this is my personal opinion, and we leave it entirely to GRS leadership to make whatever decisions,' he said. Jahid leads Sabah honours list

Jahid is among four recipients of the state's highest honour, the Seri Panglima Darjah Kinabalu (SPDK), which carries the title Datuk Seri Panglima. Advertisement Other SPDK recipients include Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Finance Minister's Special Advisory Body member Datuk Ahmad Fuad Md Ali, and businessman Datuk Lim Yu Ming. Kapayan Assemblywoman Jannie Lasimbang, Deputy Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan, and Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Dr Fuziah Salleh are among those awarded the Panglima Gemilang Darjah Kinabalu (PGDK), which confers the title Datuk. A total of 78 individuals are receiving the PGDK in this year's state awards ceremony. Another 100 are conferred the Ahli Setia Darjah Kinabalu (ASDK), followed by 181 receiving the Ahli Darjah Kinabalu (ADK). Mohd Khalid Ismail appointed new IGP

The handover-of-duties ceremony took place at the Kuala Lumpur Police Training Centre (Pulapol), witnessed by the Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and attended by the Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil as well as senior officers of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM). Advertisement Mohd Khalid, 60, has held various important positions in the PDRM Special Branch, including Chief of the Pahang Special Branch from May 25, 2018, before being appointed as the Bukit Aman Special Branch chief assistant director on Sept 6, 2021. Saifuddin Nasution in a statement today said Mohd Khalid's appointment received the consent of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia in accordance with Clauses (4) and (5) Article 140 of the Federal Constitution, upon the advice of the Prime Minister and the recommendation of the Police Force Commission. According to him, the contract appointment is for two years, starting from June 23 this year until June 22, 2027. He said Mohd Khalid was a highly experienced officer in the field of intelligence and security since he began serving in the force on April 5, 1987, when he was assigned to the Special Branch at the Bukit Aman police headquarters, after completing the General Police Training in the same year. Advertisement "Mohd Khalid also has experience serving at the Bukit Aman police headquarters, contingents and overseas, and has held key positions such as Deputy Director of Special Branch I, Bukit Aman police headquarters, and Security Liaison Officer (SLO) London, United Kingdom. "He was promoted to the position of Special Branch director on April 10, 2023, before mandatory retirement on April 8, 2025, and his service as Special Branch director continued after retirement and he was appointed on a contract basis starting from April 8, 2025, until now," he said. Saifuddin Nasution said that based on his extensive experience in the field of policing, Mohd Khalid possesses high competence and leadership qualities to carry on the continuity and responsibility of leading the team. Mohd Khalid, who was born in Manong, Perak on April 8, 1965, holds a Master's Degree in Comparative Laws and a Bachelor's Degree in Law (Honours) from the International Islamic University Malaysia, as well as a Diploma in Public Administration from Universiti Teknologi Mara. Saifuddin Nasution also expressed appreciation to Tan Sri Razarudin Husain for his dedicated service and contributions during his tenure as IGP since June 23, 2023.
