Michelle Cobb announces retirement from volleyball
Michelle Cobb is hanging up her jersey, announcing her retirement from volleyball after years of playing competitively in the UAAP and the PVL.
The 26-year-old setter said she's leaving the game for good to open a new chapter in her life.
"After years of love and dedication to the game, I've decided to close this chapter. I'm retiring with a grateful heart, proud of everything this journey has given me," Cobb said in a heartfelt Instagram post Wednesday night.
"To everyone who's been part of this journey, thank you for being family. "
Cobb is a celebrated playmaker in both the amateur and the professional scene. She once helped De La Salle University clinch two UAAP titles in Seasons 79 and 80 to complete a three-peat feat.
She then moved on to the bigger stage, suiting up for F2 Logistics before transferring to Akari, which was then making its PVL debut back in 2022.
With the Chargers, Cobb was able to guide young guns like Faith Nisperos, Fifi Sharma, Celine Domingo, and Ivy Lacsina. Together, they would help the franchise reach its first-ever finals appearance during the 2024 Reinforced Conference.
But Cobb said it's time she stepped away from the taraflex.
"As I step away from the game, I carry the strength, love, and determination it gave me. This isn't the end — just a new chapter, written with the same heart that played every point."

Young big man Migs Palanca joins UP
The University of the Philippines will have a young big man come UAAP Season 88 as National University Nazareth School product Migs Palanca has joined the Fighting Maroons. Palanca, a 6-foot-7 forward, will be eligible to play in the upcoming season and will have full five playing years. "Kinailangan natin to add size, and we saw naman talaga 'yung potential ni Palanca. "Jon Jones called us last night and retired," White said during a press conference in Azerbaijan, where UFC Fight Night was held. "Jon Jones is officially retired. Tom Aspinall is the heavyweight champion of the UFC." Jones, who turns 38 on July 19, has compiled a 28-1 record (11 TKOs) in capturing UFC titles at light heavyweight and heavyweight. He was in line for a highly anticipated unification bout with Aspinall, 32, who became the UFC's interim heavyweight champion in November 2023 when an injured Jones couldn't fight. Englishman Aspinall (15-3 MMA, 11 TKOs, 1 K0, 8-1 UFC) posted a message on Instagram after White's announcement. "For you fans. It's time to get this heavyweight division going," wrote Aspinall, 32. "An active undisputed champion." Jones last fought on Nov. 16, 2024, winning by a third-round TKO over Stipe Miocic. Jones has won six consecutive bouts since a no contest with Daniel Cormier on July 29, 2017. White's announcement countered Jones' own words on Thursday when he appeared on the "Full Send" podcast. "I don't want to say that I'm retired because fighting's in my blood," Jones said on the podcast, per multiple media reports. "Right now, I could really care less about fighting. I've been doing it my whole life at a very high level and when the itch comes back -- and if it comes back -- then I'll do it with my whole heart, do it to the best of my abilities." "I think I will fight again. Where the future of combat sports is going, it's going to be amazing when I pop back up." Jones has had a checkered history out of the octagon, where he became the youngest UFC title holder at age 23 with a win over Mauricio Rua for the 205-pound crown. San Beda's Amir Aningalan among first football awardees of Collegiate Press Corps
NCAA San Beda University's Amir Aningalan is among the Collegiate Press Corps' first football awardees in its upcoming Awards Night on June 30. Aningalan, the Most Valuable Player of NCAA Seasons 99 and 100, is set to be recognized as the CPC NCAA Football Player of the Year. This is the first time that the group of writers covering the UAAP and NCAA decided to recognize top student-athletes in football. Aside from being back-to-back MVP, Aningalan delivered the much-needed goals of the Red Booters in both finals stints where they went against De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde. San Beda, meanwhile, has been a dominant force in NCAA football and has won 26 titles overall. Over in the UAAP, Far Eastern University's Mon Diansuy and Carmela Altiche were named as the CPC Men's and Women's Football Players of the Year. Diansuy, a goalkeeper, was instrumental in FEU's championship run against Ateneo de Manila University where they won over penalties, 1-1 (5-4). Altiche, on the other hand, played a key role in FEU'S 3-2 win over La Salle in the Finals as she not only converted a penalty in the 45+7th minute, but also made a crucial cross to Regine Rebosura for the goal in the 67th minute.
