Thomas needs drama to advance; Finney rolls to semis
(4)Thomas 18, (5)Athena 13
Olivia Zizzo found Olivia Bommelje for a game winning four yard touchdown with 35 seconds left as the Titans rallied for a Class B quarterfinal win in Webster Monday evening.
Zizzo connected with Olivia Smith on a long touchdown in the first half that leveled Thomas with Athena at six. Just before the half, Anna Forman put the Trojans back in front with a TD throw to Emily McMichael. The conversion throw gave Athena a 13-6 lead at the break.
Thomas scored once in the second half to draw within a point and might have gotten away with a late Zizzo throw for the game winner. She appeared to lose a flag just before her release.
The Titans (11-2) have won five in a row and will move on to face top seeded Arcadia in Thursday's semifinals. Athena finishes the year 10-3.
(3)Finney 34, (6)Geneva 14
Lucy Broome had a pair of second half interceptions and Allie Frederickson caught a pair of first half TD passes as the Falcons won a Class C quarterfinal in Penfield Monday.
Finney led 28-0 at the half before dueling #7's started trading interceptions. Broome got her first to stop a fourth down play and actually followed with a 21 yard catch for Finney. The next Falcons throw was caught by Athena Tumbelekis, who wears number 7 for the Panthers.
Geneva did keep possession for long as Broome stepped in front of a throw a couple snaps later and ran it back for a touchdown.
Trinity Maxon had a TD rushing and throwing late for the Panthers, but they could not rally.
It was the fifth consecutive win for the Falcons, who improved to 11-2-1. Next up is a trip to Hornell for a semifinal date with (2)Canisteo-Greenwood Thursday.
Geneva closed their season at 12-6.

NFL rumors: Jaire Alexander considered Falcons, Dolphins before Ravens deal
The post NFL rumors: Jaire Alexander considered Falcons, Dolphins before Ravens deal appeared first on ClutchPoints. Shortly after his release from the Green Bay Packers, Jaire Alexander became the newest member of the Baltimore Ravens. However, while the move seemed obvious, Alexander also reportedly considered signing with the Atlanta Falcons and Miami Dolphins before putting pen to paper. Advertisement While the Ravens were always the frontrunners, Alexander did not commit to them until he was physically at the team's facilities, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported. In the meantime, he kept in contact with the Falcons and Dolphins before making his decision. 'Jaire agreed to visit the team but didn't make any commitment until he was on-site,' Fowler said on SportsCenter. 'He just had great chemistry with everybody. They were heavily recruiting him. The Falcons, he was considering, Miami Dolphins, he was also considering. But Baltimore had the clear edge throughout that process.' Alexander reunited with former Louisville teammate Lamar Jackson by signing with the Ravens. The quarterback openly campaigned for his team to sign Alexander on multiple occasions. The process ended with a one-year, $6 million deal. Advertisement The Dolphins could have used his services the most, particularly after opting not to re-sign Kendall Fuller. Miami still has former All-Pro Jalen Ramsey locking down the outside, but is currently slated to begin the year with Storm Duck as its other starter. Duck posted a subpar 55.5 player grade on Pro Football Focus as a rookie, ranking in the bottom 30 percent of eligible cornerbacks. Jaire Alexander joins Ravens' improving defense Mark Konezny-Imagn Images While Alexander has the connection to Jackson on the Ravens, he will have to earn a starting job in the offseason. Baltimore previously signed Chidobe Awuzie to fill the vacant starting spot left behind by the departing Brandon Stephens. Regardless, Alexander will undoubtedly enter training camp with the upper hand. Advertisement The Ravens' secondary took a slight step back in 2024. Baltimore's defense struggled with injuries all season, following an unfortunate trend in recent years. As a result, they allowed the sixth-most passing yards per game on the year. Alexander is the second significant addition to Baltimore's defense in the 2025 offseason. The Ravens drafted former Georgia star safety Malaki Starks with their first-round pick. Starks figures to immediately slot into the starting lineup next to two-time All-Pro Kyle Hamilton. Rising 2026 4-star OT has announced his commitment date
This weekend, Texas A&M is currently hosting 12 prospects in the 2026 and 2027 recruiting class, with a focus on the 2026 cycle, as coach Mike Elko and his staff have already landed 18 commits in the class, including several prospects who are poised to rise in the rankings by the end of the year. Finding talent early has been an impressive feat by the coaching staff, including landing three-star QB/ATH Kaeden Johnson, who is slated to play tight end at the next level, and could be on the same trajectory as Vanderbilt standout TE Eli Stowers, who was once a backup quarterback for the Aggies four year ago. While 2026 five-star edge Bryce Perry-Wright and five-star Tristian Givens, and recent five-star cornerback commit Brandon Arrington are the priority visitors this weekend, three-star offensive tackle Aaron Thomas is one of the aforementioned rising prospects in the cycle. He is also taking his official visit to College Station this weekend. Standing at 6-7 and 300 pounds, the only reason Thomas is considered a three-star prospect is due to his late switch to the offensive line after playing primarily on the D-line until his junior season. Thomas possesses the physical traits to become a starting tackle in the SEC and is a fluid mover in pass protection with great footwork and notable balance. Thomas is a work in progress like most three-star prospects. On Saturday, the Arizona native revealed his commitment date, slated for Wednesday, June 25, as he will choose between Ohio State, Florida State, Texas, Washington, and Texas A&M. Thomas has yet to receive an official prediction to land with any of the five programs listed, but it's safe to say that after official visits to Ohio State, Florida State, and now Texas A&M, all three are considered potential landing spots. According to 247Sports, Thomas is currently positioned as the 50th-ranked offensive tackle and the 8th-ranked prospect in Arizona. Falcons miss out on All-Pro wide receiver Julio Jones in 2011 NFL redraft
Pro Football Focus' 2011 NFL redraft sees Falcons miss out on All-Pro wide receiver Two moves have really defined the Atlanta Falcons over the last two decades. The first move was selecting Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan with the third overall pick in the 2008 NFL draft. Three years later, the Falcons traded up to the sixth overall pick in the 2011 draft to select Alabama wide receiver Julio Jones. Ryan and Jones formed one of the most dynamic duos in NFL history. Both players retired as Atlanta's franchise statistical leaders at their respective positions. Jones is a lock for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, while Ryan has a decent chance to be voted into the league's most exclusive club. But what would have happened if the Falcons never drafted Jones? In Pro Football Focus' 2011 NFL redraft, the seven-time Pro Bowl wide receiver didn't even make it out of the top five. So instead of adding the most productive receiver in franchise history, the Falcons stayed at pick No. 27 and drafted cornerback Jimmy Smith. Smith's size and man-to-man ability were valuable assets during his 11-year career in Baltimore. He recorded an 81.5 PFF coverage grade and hauled in 14 regular-season interceptions and one postseason pick across that span. Smith also played very well on a small workload in Super Bowl 47, forcing two incompletions and earning a 92.7 PFF coverage grade. -- PFF's Max Chadwick, Dalton Wasserman and Trevor Sikkema Smith spent his entire career in Baltimore, and despite not making a Pro Bowl, he was a dependable starter that helped the Ravens secure the Super Bowl in 2013. The former Colorado defensive back appeared in 128 games (90 starts), recording 14 interceptions and 74 passes defended. The 2011 redraft saw Jones selected by the Cincinnati Bengals with the fourth overall pick. The Bengals originally took wide receiver A.J. Green at this spot, but PFF felt Jones was the better player throughout his NFL career. There was a big debate heading into the 2011 NFL Draft over whether A.J. Green or Julio Jones was the top wide receiver prospect. The Bengals ultimately picked Green, who went on to have an excellent career in Cincinnati. However, Jones ended up being the better player. The two-time first-team All-Pro recorded a career 94.7 PFF overall grade and was the second-most-valuable receiver across his 13 seasons, according to PFF WAR. -- PFF's Max Chadwick, Dalton Wasserman and Trevor Sikkema The Falcons still landed a quality player in PFF's redraft scenario, however, it's hard to imagine Ryan ever reaching his MVP potential without Jones as his top weapon. While Atlanta didn't capture the Super Bowl, the team got as close as humanly possible during the 2016 NFL season. As the team prepares for the 2025 season, a new duo has emerged. Quarterback Michael Penix Jr. and wide receiver Drake London will look to get the Falcons back to the playoffs for the first time since Ryan and Jones departed.
