Super Mario RPG for Switch Is Now Down to Record Low Price

Yahoo31-01-2025

The Nintendo Switch 2 is at least a good few months away from launch, but there are still a multitude of brilliant games that can be picked up for the original console. And with the majority of Switch games expected to be compatible with the console's successor, there's no money lost when buying current games. This is especially the case with titles like Super Mario RPG, which is being discounted by well over 50%. GameStop members can score the Super Mario RPG game for just $22, an impressive $38 savings. As for nonmembers, it's only $3 more, coming out to $25.
Super Mario RPG has you taking Mario into an entirely different genre, and with a truly stunning art style. Rather than running around platforming, you'll find yourself battling it out in turn-based fights against classic foes and new ones, and you'll even get to meet new friends along the way. It's a real delight of a game, and if you've never played it, this is your best chance yet.
Hey, did you know? CNET Deals texts are free, easy and save you money.
It's also worth remembering that Nintendo games rarely drop in price. The Japanese game maker likes to keep its products at full price (here being $60). That's why any discount is worth shouting about.
Super Mario RPG is a remake of 1996's Super Mario RPG: Legends of the Seven Stars, a beloved RPG that launched for the SNES. It was originally developed by Square but then ArtePiazza in 2023 for the Switch. It's full of whimsy, colorful worlds and fantastic boss fights similar to classic Final Fantasy. Best of all, it's never been cheaper. It was previously down to $30 at Target during MLK Day. But now it's even less. GameStop Pro members can score it for $22 while non members can score it for $25, both options are still cheaper than the previous record low.
The size of the discount, and the fact that it's on a Mario game, make this one of the best Nintendo Switch deals going on right now. So if you fancy the game, don't pass this chance up.

Nintendo's Switch 2 is available online at Best Buy

The Nintendo Switch 2 has been difficult to find in stock since its June 5th launch, though restocks are beginning to ramp up. If you're looking for one, head over to Best Buy's site or use the app. Those who have a free account can get the standalone system ($449.99) and a console bundle ($499.99) that includes Mario Kart World available. The latest Mario Kart costs $79.99 on its own, so picking up a system with the game included will end up saving you $30 compared to buying them separately. The Switch 2 has become the fastest-selling console of all time, having sold over 3.5 million units in its first four days. The system is a hybrid handheld console just like the original Nintendo Switch, which has gone on to sell over 150 million units after eight years. The Switch 2 can play most digital and physical games released for the first Nintendo Switch, and both Nintendo and Switch game developers are pushing game updates to further improve backwards compatibility. The new system can run some (but not all) original Switch games at higher resolutions and frame rates than the older console thanks to patches or paid Switch 2 Edition upgrades. My colleague Andrew Webster called the Switch 2 'the Switch, just better' in The Verge's review.

‘Cyberpunk 2077' Delays 2.3 Patch, Reveals How Big It Is

Cyberpunk 2077 Players should not really be expecting any more Cyberpunk 2077 patches at this point, so we cannot be too sad when they're delayed. A newly announced one, Update 2.3, was set to come out this Thursday on June 26, but now that's been pushed to some new unspecified date. While CDPR has confirmed its existence, we have not gotten any more details past that about what it will add to Cyberpunk 2077. But this new post at least says how big it's going to be, as it's 'aiming for a scope similar to Update 2.2.' As a refresher regarding the size of Update 2.2, we can flash back to when that went live on December 10, 2024, on the three-year anniversary of the release of the base game. Now, we're six months past that, and it appears a (successful, by all accounts) Nintendo Switch launch will be in conjunction with this new patch. So maybe don't blaze through the game until we know what's being added here. Cyberpunk 2077 To be clear, these are not huge updates in terms of missions or questlines. Rather, they're mostly quality-of-life updates, fun new additions and other things of that nature. Flashing back to 2.2, we had: Patch 2.1 was more robust, and 2.3 may not be this big. It had: If quests are added, they're somewhat secret, and the community will have to dig them up. But yes, 2.2 was largely cosmetic, based on character customization, photo mode and car paint. And some fairly random things, like Johnny as a passenger. I do find myself wondering if these updates may now start teasing the upcoming Cyberpunk sequel in subtle ways, no matter how many years away it still might be. The game will move beyond solely Night City, and indications are it may take place in a quarantined, lawless version of Chicago that will be a contrast to the glamour of Night City. We don't know when we'll get a preview of 2.3 or when it will arrive. I was looking forward to it, but I suppose there's now Death Stranding 2 to play. Microsoft Is Ditching Passwords for Passkeys: How to Switch Before the August Deadline

Did you know there's a safer alternative to passwords? Some companies are implementing passkeys, which essentially use your biometric data, like fingerprint or facial recognition to log into your account as the first step. Passkeys can cut out risky password habits that 49% of US adults have, according to a recent CNET survey. Using the same password for multiple accounts and even using personal information, like your name, as a part of your password can lead to hackers guessing it or your password being leaked in a company data breach. That can lead to identity theft and fraud. You may start to hear more buzz around passkeys, like Microsoft making the big switch starting in August. If you use Microsoft Authenticator to store your passwords, here's what you need to know about the transition and how to set up passkeys for your Microsoft accounts before the deadline. Microsoft Authenticator will stop supporting passwords Microsoft Authenticator houses your passwords and lets you sign into all of your Microsoft accounts using a PIN, facial recognition such as Windows Hello, or other biometric data, like a fingerprint. Authenticator can be used in other ways, such as verifying you're logging in if you forgot your password, or using two-factor authentication as an extra layer of security for your Microsoft accounts. How you use the app will change starting this month, according to Microsoft. June 2025: You'll no longer be able to add passwords to Authenticator. You'll no longer be able to add passwords to Authenticator. July 2025: You won't be able to use the autofill password function. You won't be able to use the autofill password function. August 2025: You'll no longer be able to use saved passwords. If you still want to use passwords instead of passkeys, you can store them in Microsoft Edge. However, CNET experts recommend adopting passkeys during this transition. "Passkeys use public key cryptography to authenticate users, rather than relying on users themselves creating their own (often weak or reused) passwords to access their online accounts," said Attila Tomaschek, CNET software senior writer and digital security expert. Why passkeys are a better alternative to passwords So what exactly is a passkey? It's a credential created by the Fast Identity Online Alliance that uses biometric data or a PIN to verify your identity and access your account. Think about using your fingerprint or Face ID to log into your account. That's generally safer than using a password that is easy to guess or susceptible to a phishing attack. "Passwords can be cracked, whereas passkeys need both the public and the locally stored private key to authenticate users, which can help mitigate risks like falling victim to phishing and brute-force or credential-stuffing attacks," Tomaschek added. Passkeys aren't stored on servers like passwords. Instead, they're stored only on your personal device. More conveniently, this takes the guesswork out of remembering your passwords and the need for a password manager. How to set up a passkey in Microsoft Authenticator Microsoft said in a May 1 blog post that it will automatically detect the best passkey to set up and make that your default sign-in option. "If you have a password and 'one-time code' set up on your account, we'll prompt you to sign in with your one-time code instead of your password. After you're signed in, you'll be prompted to enroll a passkey. Then the next time you sign in, you'll be prompted to sign in with your passkey," according to the blog post. To set up a new passkey, open your Authenticator app on your phone. Tap on your account and select "Set up a passkey." You'll be prompted to log in with your existing credentials. After you're logged in, you can set up the passkey.
