PCSO visits Richmondhill School, Aspatria to give out end of year certificates
A local police officer has visited an Aspatria school to give out end of year certificates.
On Thursday, June 19, morning PCSO Pete Nichol has been into Richmondhill school Aspatria to give out the certificates with the 'mini police'.
The mini police have been raising awareness about speeding in Aspatria with other pupils and people across the town.
The group has also been into a residential home to meet with the residents.
A spokesperson for Allerdale Police said: 'PSCO Pete Nichol has been into Richmondhill school Aspatria with the mini police to give out the end of year certificates.
'The mini police have worked really hard this year raising awareness about speeding both in the school for the other pupils and in the town.

'They have been into a residential home to visit the residents and have worked really hard all year.
'Well done Richmondhill school mini police you are a real credit to the school and the town of Aspatria.'

Shooting at Juneteenth festival in Tulsa leaves 1 dead, 7 injured
Gunfire broke out at a Juneteenth celebration Saturday night in Tulsa, Oklahoma, killing one person and wounding seven others, according to police and the organizers of the event. No arrests have been made. The 2025 Tulsa Juneteenth Festival took place in the city's Greenwood district, historically home to the affluent community known as "Black Wall Street" and, now, part of the Oklahoma State University campus. It consisted of a series of programs held over multiple days, with a runway show scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. local time Saturday evening. A national holiday observed on June 19 each year, Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and celebrations around the country tend to be weeklong. Officers working at the Tulsa festival heard gunshots at around 11 p.m. Saturday, while the event was still busy, the Tulsa Police Department said, adding that "chaos erupted as people began running in multiple directions." A 22-year-old man was killed in the shooting, according to the police department. Seven others were injured, including a 17-year-old and an elderly woman. Police said all were taken to local hospitals for treatment. At least one 24-year-old man was hospitalized in critical condition early Sunday morning, according to police. Police responded to a shooting that broke out during a busy Juneteenth celebration near downtown Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Saturday night. Police said they believe at least two different shooters are responsible, but no arrests have been made, and their intended targets were unclear. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation was assisting Tulsa police in what the department called "a very active investigation." The organizers of the Juneteenth festival acknowledged there had been a shooting in a statement released late Saturday night. "We have been made aware of a shooting that occurred this evening during the Tulsa Juneteenth Festival. Our on-site security and medical teams responded immediately, and we remain in close communication with the first responders," they said in the statement. "We are actively cooperating with the Tulsa Police Department and other law enforcement agencies as the investigation continues. Our of respect for those impacted, all programming is currently canceled. Please keep our community in your prayers. We will share additional updates as more information becomes available." Police warn of possible dangerous drugs batch after death and cardiac arrests
The death of a man in the North East could be linked to a dangerous drugs batch, police have warned. Northumbria Police have launched an investigation into the death of a man in his 40s, who was found dead in the Harlow Green area of Gateshead on Friday. Officers believe his death and four cardiac arrests in the area since Thursday could be linked to the same drugs batch, but have said enquiries are at a very early stage. 'While we would never advocate anyone taking illegal drugs, the fact is that there are people in our area with drug addictions and we want to warn them about this potentially lethal substance. 'Given the similarities of these reports from the same area, it is important that we ensure this warning message is shared far and wide.' Man torched mum's home after raiding her fridge while she was away in Blackpool
A man fuelled by booze torched his own mum's house after he raided the fridge while she was in Blackpool. Liam Patrick Deeney climbed through a window of the house before he set fire to the property in what was described as an "extremely dangerous" incident. Detectives said his impulsive actions also put the properties neighbouring the house in danger too. On Sunday, May 21, 2023, Deeney broke into the house on Thornton Road, Tyldesley, Wigan, at around 11pm while his mum was away at the seaside resort. Greater Manchester Police said: "He entered the property through a back window and stole food and alcohol from the fridge before setting the address on fire." The investigation revealed Deeney, 30, ignited two separate fires - one in the bedroom wardrobes and another on an armchair in the living room, leading to the entire bungalow being engulfed in flames, Lancs Live reports. "The fire has caused damage to items of significance and memorabilia such as his mother's medals, clothing, jewellery, and old pictures of sentimental value," GMP added. Deeney, of Lever Street, Tyldesley, was arrested and charged. He later pleaded guilty to arson being reckless as to whether life was endangered. He was sentenced to three years, four months in prison at Bolton Crown Court last Thursday (June 12). In a statement issued following the hearing, Detective Constable Riyaz Patel: "Liam Deeney's actions were extremely dangerous and put neighbouring properties in danger. "He acted in an impulsive manner whilst under the influence of alcohol, destroying his mother's home and sentimental items belonging to her that meant so much to her. "I hope this sentence shows that GMP will pursue domestic violence perpetrators to keep victims safe and ensure justice is delivered." A restraining order prevents Deeney from contacting his mother for five years. He was also ordered to pay a surcharge of £228.
