Global footwear brand Hush Puppies has partnered with comedian and actor Vir Das to launch its latest campaign titled 'Ease Please,' designed to promote a shift in workwear culture by introducing its new ' Office Sneakers' line.
'With Ease Please campaign, we want to inspire a refreshing take on modern work culture- where feeling good, staying confident, and being effortlessly stylish coexist,' said Bata India's head of marketing Deepika Deepti in a press release. The Hush Puppies brand is brand retailed in India by footwear giant Bata.
The campaign film presents a light-hearted take on workplace norms, reinforcing that comfort and creativity can go hand-in-hand. Das, known for his unconventional career path, highlights the campaign's message of moving at one's own pace while staying stylish and confident. The film also features the brand's Basset Hound mascot, aligning with the message of comfort and ease.
The collection includes classic Oxford silhouettes with premium uppers and Zero G technology for a lightweight experience. It is available across select Bata stores, the brand's website, and Hush Puppies exclusive outlets.
The initiative is part of Bata India's broader strategy to fuse comfort and fashion across its portfolio. With this campaign, Hush Puppies announced that it aims to appeal to a new generation of professionals seeking versatile footwear for dynamic routines.

AUB Press Hosts Dr. Ramzi Baalbaki at the 66th Beirut Arab International Book Fair: 'The Arabic Language: Its History, Present, and Future'
As part of its participation in the 66th Beirut Arab International Book Fair, AUB Press hosted a discussion titled 'The Arabic language: Its History, Present, and Future' featuring renowned Arabic Language professor Ramzi Baalbaki in conversation with Malek Chaker and Amina Sleiman. The event was supported by the Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Chair and organized in collaboration with the Center for Arts and Humanities at the American University of Beirut (AUB). The discussion touched upon various topics related to the Arabic language. Baalbaki spoke about the history of Arabic and its emergence before the revelation of the Qur'an, highlighting its presence in Arabic poetry and popular proverbs (ahadith). He explained how, by the time of the Qur'an's revelation, the Arabic corpus had become rich and well-established, with its collection largely ceasing by the end of the second Hijri century. Linguists then engaged with this corpus, bringing to light its morphological and syntactic features—particularly its patterns (awz?n). In this context, Baalbaki pointed out the distinctive differences that set Arabic apart from its sister Semitic languages as well as from foreign languages. Baalbaki also spoke about his new book Mukawimat al-Nazariyah al-Lughawwiya al-Arabiyya, in which he demonstrated the coherence of the linguistic theory and the comprehensiveness of its components. This, he argued, highlights the uniqueness of the Arabic language and the elements of wisdom embedded in its structures and morphological patterns. He compared this theory with scientific theories—specifically, the theory of dimensions in physics—to affirm the validity of the linguistic framework established by early grammarians. Through this, they provided explanations for every structure, and thus the term ghar?b (the obscure or unusual) in the language emerged. The discussion also touched on the relationship between Classical Arabic and the various colloquial dialects. Baalbaki emphasized the strong connection between them, refuting any notion of conflict or hostility, as each borrows certain words and structures from the other. The conversation addressed the current state of the Arabic language and its place among its native speakers. Baalbaki pointed to the number of Arabic speakers and the language's presence on social media, expressing concern over the weakening use of Arabic among its speakers and their tendency to resort to foreign languages to express their ideas. Therefore, he offered some advice on how to preserve the language—especially within academia. The event was attended by political and social figures, as well as a number of linguists and scholars of the humanities from various Arab countries. Brisbane still remain in the market for West Coast co-captain Oscar Allen despite latest injury setbacks
Oscar Allen's potential season ending injuries have not deterred Brisbane who remain steadfast in their pursuit of the West Coast co-captain. The Lions are believed to have offered Allen a significant six-year deal which would trigger a band one compensation for the struggling club. It comes as former coach Adam Simpson labelled the situation around the potential departure of the 26-year-old as 'sad'. Allen injured his Achilles and calf in the Eagles' defeat to Carlton at Optus Stadium on Sunday before undergoing minor surgery on his left patella to fix an issue which has plagued him for some time, with the forward unlikely to return this year. It is believed the Achilles injury just requires six to eight weeks' worth of rest, while the surgery on his knee is about an eight-week recovery, meaning Allen is unlikely to play again this season and may have suited up for the Eagles for the final time. Brisbane has long been reported to have a bigger offer on the table for the forward than the Eagles, who would likely get band-one compensation if the restricted free agent leaves the club. If West Coast remain at the bottom of the ladder, this would give them the first two picks in what is set to be a heavily compromised draft with several top academy selections. While the Lions are front-runners to land Allen, Hawthorn are also in the market with coach Sam Mitchell's meeting with the forward while in Perth making headlines earlier this year. The reigning premiers are in need of a forward to replace star Joe Daniher, who retired after last year's grand final victory. It is part of a turbulent season for the prodigious talent, who was forced to head into defence after struggling for form early in the year before kicking four goals in a competitive loss to Geelong in round 12. Allen is in his second year as co-captain alongside premiership defender Liam Duggan and has played 105 games since he was drafted with pick No.21 in 2017 out of West Perth. Former Eagles coach Adam Simpson said Allen was 'the last player' who would leave the Eagles. 'Oscar hasn't checked out … he loves the club. He's the last player that I thought would leave West Coast. By a mile,' Simpson told SEN. 'He grew up in WA, a passionate West Coast supporter, captain – whatever it takes to help the club. 'When I left that was him, so to go from that to this, it's been really disappointing from all fronts. 'Not being part of it I haven't seen contract negotiations, I haven't seen his body for 12 months but just the fact that his season's cut short, and it looks like he might head somewhere else, it's sad.' The exposure of Allen's meeting with Mitchell led to the forward missing the Eagles' round six loss to Essendon, as well as a press conference alongside football boss John Worsfold which drew criticism from Simpson. 'That was poor … I don't think they read the cues well at all the club in terms of what was needed to be done with that,' he said. ‘Manipulative': Expert slams states on sluggish shark net stance
A Sydney shark expert has gone to town on the NSW and Queensland governments, accusing them of manipulating public perception in an effort to drum up support for shark nets and saying none of the available scientific evidence points to them being effective. Shark nets across NSW beaches are taken in annually from mid-autumn to mid-spring, however the NSW government is conducting a review to determine shark mitigation measures for the 2025-26 summer, including support from local councils on the continued use of shark nets. Speaking to NewsWire, The University of Sydney associate professor and shark behaviour expert Christopher Pepin-Neff said he believed two simple premises lay at the heart of the issue; firstly, that shark nets catch fish (Sutherland Shire council reported a 13 times differential between non-target animals caught in nets compared with the targeted eight species of sharks), and secondly, that in getting caught, those fish struggle and die and attract sharks. 'Shark nets attract sharks,' he said. 'There is no way that science exists everywhere in the ocean except on netted beaches in NSW or Queensland. 'That the vibrations that struggling fish make attract sharks everywhere in the ocean except when they get caught in a net at a netted beach in Australia. 'If science still applies, then we have to conclude that shark nets attract sharks to local beaches.' The decision to use shark nets is left to the state government, and during the 2024-25 season, 51 beaches between Newcastle and Wollongong used shark nets. Professor Pepin-Neff said his principal objection to shark nets was that 'they are used by politicians when it is convenient for them to protect themselves by providing a false sense of security to the public'. 'Politicians know that the public has an idea that shark nets work and they are manipulating that public perception for their own benefit,' he said. 'It's a disgrace that in 2025, politicians have not come clean about the fact that shark nets and a lot of beach safety measures are mythical. 'For me, this is not an environmental issue; it is an issue of integrity in the policy process and respect for local constituents across Australia.' The office of NSW Agriculture Minister Tara Moriarty declined to respond to NewsWire's request for comment; however Professor Pepin-Neff, received a letter from the Department of Primary Industries (DPIE) saying 'in 2024/25 the DPIE consulted the 25 coastal councils about their preferences for shark mitigation at beaches within their local government area'. 'The NSW government is currently considering the feedback from the councils as well as the evidence from the technologies used over the 2024/25 summer period to help inform the upcoming season,' the DPIE continued. The Sutherland Shire in Sydney was one of the last councils in NSW to oppose the use of shark nets on its beaches. When the state government surveyed local councils in late 2024, councillors were presented with options and evidence for the various shark mitigation technologies. Sutherland Shire councillor Kal Glaznig voted against the use of shark nets and speaking to NewsWire said 'just based on the evidence that was presented it was pretty clear that they're not the most effective tools to keep people safe'. 'I feel like it's a big education piece for beachgoers. The thing around shark nets and why there's a bit of hesitancy to take them out is this perceived safety, which from what I saw scientifically, there's no argument for,' he said. 'People in our community aren't getting in the ocean or not getting in the ocean because they feel like they're being saved with nets.' Mr Glaznig said he couldn't speak for everyone, but during the council deliberation he didn't have a single constituent reaching out to say 'keep the nets in' but was instead inundated with community members who spent large amounts of time in the ocean saying they didn't believe the nets should be in. 'A lot of the evidence for me is around the fact that these nets have been here since 1937,' Mr Glaznig said. 'And I feel like if we just relied on existing measures for everything in life from nearly 100 years ago, we would be so backwards and behind. 'The ocean is such an unknown and you're never going to be able to control the elements, but you can definitely use better technologies and fuller solutions.' 'My take for the state government is for them to hopefully listen to what the councils who are on the ground with the community are saying because ultimately we are more accessible than state ministers in getting the response and the feel from the community. 'And our community in the Sutherland shire is telling us that they don't want shark nets and the experts that presented made it super clear that shark nets were not the most effective way to keep people safe.'
