New sleeper train will connect 100 European cities — with private rooms from £67
Travelling by train can often be more expensive than hopping on a short-haul flight, but a new company is hoping to change that.
Nox, a Berlin-based startup, is working to create an alternative travel option in Europe, with plans for overnight sleeper trains that cost the same price as a plane ticket.
They're hopeful the first route will launch in 2027, with a goal of connecting more than 100 European cities by 2035. Destinations will include Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Milan, Paris, Warsaw, Frankfurt and Brussels.
And the best part? If successful, the overnight trains will have private rooms for passengers, with prices starting from £67 (€79) for a single room and £127 (€149) for a double.
The plan is for the rooms to feature 2m long beds, as well as armchairs and tables at which people can work, eat, or relax, plus windows where you can enjoy the views outside as you travel.

There will be three different types of room available – a single or double loft room and vista rooms.
The loft rooms have upper beds which you have to climb a ladder to get to, while the vista rooms, the beds are low to the floor or at chest-height for easy access and can be converted into seats.
According to Nox, their trains will differ from other sleeper trains as they 'focus on privacy, good sleep and affordable prices'.
They continue: 'You will not need to share your room with strangers and can lock it from in and outside. On top, we aim to offer ticket prices as low as air fares.'
The idea behind the private rooms was born from personal experience, as co-founder Thibault Constant has taken more than 400 night train trips. He's been sharing his journeys on social media as Simply Railway.
His co-founder Janek Smalla brings experience from the operational side of things, having previously worked at Flix, leading the operational launch of FlixTrain. He also led the German ridesharing market for Bolt until 2024.
Janek adds: 'Our room design allows us to fit more people into our trains than traditional operators can. This, paired with a strict focus on standardisation and operational excellence will allow us to offer affordable fares on over 35 European routes.'
On X (formerly Twitter) people are already excited about the prospect of the new overnight trains, although some have branded Nox's plans as 'ambitious' and 'optimistic'. More Trending
Mark Smith, who runs travel site seat61.com, said: 'Ambitious plans for all-private-room sleeper trains, first route to be launched in 2027. I like the look of those comparments, the demand is there, and these guys know their market: It'll be tough, but can they do it? We'll see!'
Doug Smart was keen, saying: 'Shut up and take my money!'
And Jakub Krupa commented: 'That's brilliant, particularly now that the OBB NightJet Brussels to Berlin remains suspended.'

"I just thought that it was the right point in my career to make the next step and of course I wanted to get to a club that is from the top three in the world, and in my opinion Liverpool was one of them," the 31-time Germany international explained. Martin Zubimendi announcement plan emerges as Arsenal face transfer delay
Arsenal are set to confirm Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi as their first summer signing in a major coup for Mikel Arteta Martin Zubimendi's transfer to Arsenal is not expected to be made official until July - even though the player has already travelled to London with his agent to put the finishing touches on his switch from Real Sociedad. The Spain international was in the capital on Friday to meet with Gunners officials as Mikel Arteta's side hone in on their first big statement deal of the summer window. However, Sociedad want the move to be ratified next month for their financial records as the current football financial year is due to end on June 30. Arsenal are also expected to pay slightly over Zubimendi's £51million release clause and the final fee could yet reach £55m all in. The extra £4m, though sources remain tight-lipped on the final figures at this stage, would entitle them to more favourable payment terms, spread across a longer period of time and significantly, would give them further flexibility in the market amid the tightening of PSR regulations. Real Madrid had been tipped to hijack Arsenal's swoop for the 26-year-old following Xabi Alonso's arrival at the Bernabeu but Zubimendi's impending transfer was already agreed in principle several months ago and the Gunners have long been operating with the belief that he would be joining this summer. Meanwhile, Thomas Partey's contract situation currently looks bleak as discussions have not progressed between the parties and barring any late U-turn, the Ghanaian is set to become a free agent at the end of the month. The 32-year-old has been offered to a number of top European clubs including Galatasaray and Fenerbahce in the past week but at this stage, it is still not clear where he could yet end up as his priority has always been to stay at Arsenal. If Partey does indeed depart, Arsenal will actively seek to recruit another midfielder after also losing Jorginho to Flamengo, although Zubimendi is expected to fill the void of the Ghana international at the base of Arteta's engine room. First Minister Visits Wrexham University to Tour Trail-Blazing Facilities and Discuss Civic Impact
First Minister of Wales Eluned Morgan MS paid a visit to Wrexham University to view some of the institution's ground-breaking facilities, including the soon-to-be complete Enterprise Engineering and Optics Centre (EEOC) building – North Wales Growth Deal's first construction project. The First Minister met students and staff from a range of subject areas to hear all about the university's newly launched 2030 Vision and Strategy and its overarching ambition to become a world-leading, modern civic university. During the visit, the First Minister toured the trail-blazing EEOC development, which will become a specialist centre for industry engagement, research, and innovation, and will provide North Wales with a centre for collaboration and skills development in sustainability, renewables, and high value manufacturing. The First Minister's tour of the EEOC came just days before International Women in Engineering Day. She spent time speaking with Selina Thomas, a final-year Aeronautical and Mechanical Engineering student, who highlighted her work in supporting North Wales-based firm KnitMesh Technologies by investigating the impact strength of composites. She was also given the opportunity to view the university's Health Simulation Centre, where staff highlighted the institution's work in strengthening and developing the public sector workforce in North Wales, with Welsh language provision at the core of that. The First Minister heard how since launching 'Cyfle', the institution's Welsh Language Academic Strategy and Action Plan just under three years ago, Welsh language modules have been introduced to a number of degree courses including Speech and Language Therapy, Professional Policing, Education and more. Staff also updated the First Minister on progress relating to current works taking place on campus on the next phase of enhancing the University's Health and Education Innovation Quarter (HEIQ). She heard how the next phase will take the university's facilities to even further heights – ensuring that industry-leading technology is available to students' by creating a new immersive teaching environment, which will allow for a combination of both virtual and augmented reality. It will also include a Teaching and Learning Lab and a Hydrasimulation Suite – which is being developed in conjunction with the Hydra Foundation – that will help students with their critical decision-making skills, through simulation of emergency situations. The visit concluded with a positive discussion on the university's Civic Mission work, with a focus on how the institution is at the forefront of driving systemic change in the region through connecting partner organisations, sharing knowledge and unlocking collective action, all with the aim of helping to put an end to social inequality across North Wales by 2030. Professor Joe Yates, Vice-Chancellor of Wrexham University, said: 'We were delighted to welcome the First Minister to the university and proudly showcase our incredible facilities – in particular, our Enterprise Engineering and Optics Centre, which is due to open at the start of the next academic year in September, as well as our cutting-edge Health Simulation Centre. 'The visit also provided us with a welcome opportunity to highlight our newly launched 2030 Vision and Strategy, and also shine a light on how higher education institutions have a crucial role to play in helping to shape a more resilient and prosperous Wales.
