Johor Motorsport Racing triumph in Thailand brings a nice birthday gift for King

KUALA LUMPUR: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, extended his congratulations to the Johor Motorsports Racing (JMR) team following their victory in the second race at the Buriram International Circuit, Thailand, in the GT World Challenge Asia series, on Sunday (June 1).
In a post on the Facebook page of Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, His Majesty also described the JMR team's success as a meaningful gift in conjunction with His Majesty's official birthday on Monday.
"JMR's win in today's race and second place finish yesterday (May 31) is a nice birthday gift for me.
"My congratulations to my son (Tunku Panglima Johor (TPJ) Tunku Abdul Rahman Al-Haj) and his teammate, Ben Green, for this outstanding achievement.
"To my other son (Tunku Putera Johor Tunku Abu Bakar Al-Haj), do not be sad or lose heart - continue striving in the races to come," said His Majesty.
Earlier, JMR in a statement said the team secured podium finishes in the fifth and sixth rounds of the GT World Challenge Asia in Buriram.
The results also bring TPJ to the top of the championship driver point standings with a 62-point lead at the midway point of the season. - Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR, June 20 (Bernama) -- Defending champions New Zealand advanced to the final of the 2025 International Hockey Federation (FIH) Men's Nations Cup after defeating South Korea 4-3 in a penalty shootout at the National Stadium Bukit Jalil tonight. In a thrilling semi-final clash, the Black Sticks were not given an easy path by South Korea after being tied 2-2 at the end of 60 minutes of regulation play. Earlier, field goals by Jonty Elmes in the 10th minute and Dylan Thomas nine minutes later put New Zealand ahead, before penalty corner goals from Lim Dohyun in the 25th minute and Yang Jihun in the 37th minute helped South Korea level the tie.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 20 (Bernama) -- The Road To Gold (RTG) programme is glad to have four professional badminton shuttlers on board, said its project coordinator Datuk Stuart Ramalingam. Although the negotiations took a little longer, Stuart said that the world number one men's doubles pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani and mixed doubles pair Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie are satisfied with the services that RTG can offer to help enhance their performance levels. 'I think it's a good sign that the programme is well received by all parties. The programme has always been about performance support and I believe that's what the athletes will get, even the previous RTG cycle. bootstrap slideshow 'I think if you spoke to the coaches, you spoke to the athletes, they have no complaints about the RTG support system. Yesterday, Hannah announced Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin and Soon Huat-Shevon pledged their commitment to the RTG for the 2025 cycle. Last week, eight badminton players including world number two men's doubles duo Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and teammates Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun, top national women's doubles pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah as well as national mixed doubles duo Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei had been announced to join the RTG. Other athletes joining the programme are weightlifter Mohd Aniq Kasdan and track cyclists Nurul Izzah Izzati Mohd Asri and Muhammad Shah Firdaus Sahrom as well as S. Sivasangari from squash.
