Naim Daniel pleads not guilty to sexual assault charges

17 Jun - Singer-actor Naim Daniel has pleaded not guilty to a charge of committing physical sexual assault against a teenage girl on 19 May.
The plea was made at the Sessions Court before Judge Datin M. Kunasundary. It came after he was accused of committing physical sexual assault against a 17-year-old victim at a hotel in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, at 8.56pm on 19 May.
The actor was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison upon conviction. He pleads not guilty to the charges
Naim, real name Muhammad Naim Daniel bin Baharin, was represented by Mohd Irwan Sumadi and Amirul Ridzuan Hanif. The prosecutor proposed bail at RM15,000 with additional conditions that the accused's passport to be temporarily seized and that he must not contact the victim or any prosecution witnesses in any way.
The court allowed bail of RM12,000 with one surety and imposed the additional conditions as put forward by the prosecution.
The case is set for mention on 18 August.
Earlier this month, the media reported that a famous singer-actor was detained for sexual assault against a 17-year-old. Many speculated it to be Naim based on the description given of him being a singer and actor of 27 years of age.
It was further fuelled by his sudden absence from social media following the news.

'It's, you know, a very quiet town. And we take pride in that.' Officers then attempted to break up the struggle, but McDougal fought them before being taken into custody. Stringer said it is unclear how the teenager and McDougal met. Officers have heard they met online or during employment. 'I know he's got a history of these type cases and violent offenses also,' Stringer said about McDougal's crime history. 'So, you know, I'm sure that the DA's office is going to work hard to make sure that this dangerous individual stays in jail.' In 2022, McDougal pleaded guilty to raping a teen and was sentenced to 20 years. News 5 has reached out to the DA's office for more details on McDougal's criminal history and time served, but has not yet heard back. He is listed on the ALEA Offender List for that earlier crime. Stringer said the Mobile County Sheriff's Office Sex Offender Unit is following up on the case. 'We just ask everybody to be cautious with their children and the children, you know, these teenagers being around these people,' Chief Stringer said. 'This gentleman was 30 years old. So very dangerous situation.' McDougal faces six charges including attempted rape, assault, unlawful imprisonment and resisting arrest. Ashtabula Township man indicted on rape charges

JEFFERSON — An Ashtabula Township man was recently indicted on two counts of rape by a county grand jury. Bart A. Millard was indicted on two counts of rape, first-degree felonies, and had his first appearance in front of Magistrate Joseph Macejko Tuesday, where bail was set at $50,000 personal recognizance, with not contact with the alleged victim or victims, court records show. The case was reinstated on indictment after similar charges were dismissed without prejudice on Oct. 24, 2024, meaning the case could be filed again, court records show. Millard was originally indicted in April 2024. A series of hearings took place in the case in 2024, with a a wide variety of back and forth motions, including a motion to alter the indictment. The new indictment is the same as the one in the 2024 case. A series of hearings have been scheduled in the case including a July 8 pre-trial hearing, a July 29 plea deadline hearing, a August 18 trial prep status hearing and an August 22 jury trial, according to court records
