Will head coach Joe Mazzulla change the way the Boston Celtics play?
Will head coach Joe Mazzulla change the way the Boston Celtics play after their early exit from the 2025 NBA Playoffs? The Celtics were sent fishing by the New York Knicks in their Eastern Conference Semifinals second round series with their Atlantic Division rival, and Boston's over-reliance on shots from beyond the arc were arguably a significant factor in what went wrong for the Celtics.
To be sure, injuries to Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Kristaps Porzingis, and other key players compounded the matter. But at least some of the blame should fall on a version of Mazzulla ball that was not as complete as it was when the Celtics won the title in 2024.
The folks behind the "98.5 The Sports Hub" YouTube channel put together a clip from their "Felger and Mazz" show that takes a closer look at such a possibility. Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what they had to say!

Phoenix Suns, Boston Celtics Linked After Recent Kevin Durant Trade Report
Phoenix Suns, Boston Celtics Linked After Recent Kevin Durant Trade Report originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Phoenix Suns have yet to strike a Kevin Durant trade, though that deal could come any day now. Advertisement The 15-time All-Star was nearly moved by the franchise at the most recent trade deadline, which all but confirmed an eventual divorce between the two sides. Durant's preferred destinations are the Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat -- though the Suns have made it clear they are making the best decision for the franchise. With this, the Minnesota Timberwolves and Toronto Raptors remain options for Durant to be traded to. There could be another dark horse suitor, too. Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum ruptured his Achilles, which will lead to the 2024 champions playing next season without their superstar forward. Advertisement A fire sale could ensue in Boston, as they look to offload high-salaried players like Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porzingis and even Derrick White. According to Zach Lowe, the Celtics have discussed landing the two-time champion from the Suns, re-routing Holiday to a new destination. "I've heard that there have been discussions of 3-team Durant related trades where Jrue Holiday moves somewhere," Lowe reports. The Suns have already been disappointed with the trade packages from Durant's top three trade options. Facilitating a trade with the Celtics to benefit both sides -- while moving the 15-time All-Star -- could make sense for Phoenix. Advertisement While the Celtics may have had internal -- or even external -- conversations about landing Durant, the Suns need to be interested. With Devin Booker still in The Valley, Phoenix will be sure to make a move in their best interest, meaning the Celtics will have to outbid other suitors. Nets' D'Angelo Russell Sends Recommendation to NBA Peers Ahead of Finals Game 7
Nets' D'Angelo Russell Sends Recommendation to NBA Peers Ahead of Finals Game 7 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Brooklyn Nets guard D'Angelo Russell had a rough final game of the 2024-25 NBA season on April 3, 2025 as he did not score a point in 13 minutes of action. Advertisement The former Ohio State Buckeyes and Los Angeles Lakers star is known for his smooth all-around game and ability to get his teammates involved on offense with deft passing and leadership skills. On Friday, Russell shared an unexpected highlight reel of his time in the league, featuring 19 minutes of what most people believe is a lost art in the NBA: the mid-range game. Russell included a message for today's NBA players that was not widely accepted as fans shared differing opinions. Russell said on X along with a 19 minute, 19 second clip of himself shooting and scoring mid-range jump shots. Advertisement Russell played on the big stage of the NBA Playoffs many times with the Lakers but has been relegated to the background as awaits the start of next season. "This is like Westbrook at OKC highlights," one fan said. "Ignore the haters Russ. We love you," another fan said. "Fry them goat they just mad LeBron held you back when you were on the Lakers," another added. "They found all 19 minutes of your mid-range game," another said with a crying emoji. Russell, 29, has played in just 58 games over the past two seasons with the Nets and Lakers following his 76 game season in 2023-2024 with former LA coach Darvin Ham's team in the City of Angels. Torrey Craig gives an update on Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum's Achilles rehab
Star Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum has been keeping a low profile since he went down with a torn Achilles tendon against the New York Knicks in the 2025 NBA Eastern Conference Semifinals. And given the anguish that injury created for the St. Louis native, we can hardly blame him. But Tatum has been, by all accounts, hard at work rehabbing that ankle so he can get back on the court as soon as possible and better than ever. Veteran teammate Torrey Craig has been in Auerbach Center this summer as well, and has seen the Duke alum grinding. "He loves the game so much and basketball means so much to him," said Craig in a recent interview with CLNS Media's Noa Dalzell and Bobby Manning. "He puts so much hard work into it, and dedication and sacrifice, and all of the above. For something like this to happen at that moment, in the playoffs, it's just gut-blowing."
