Punjab: Movable rails found obstructed on Jalandhar-Jammu route
In a suspected case of sabotage, railway staff at Tanda Urmar railway station found movable rails obstructed with stones and a three-inch-long piece of iron just as the Jammu-bound Hemkunt Express was approaching, prompting them to halt the train in the early hours of Tuesday, officials said.
According to station house officer (SHO), Government Railway Police (GRP), Jalandhar, inspector Ashok Kumar, the train en route from Haridwar to Jammu was stopped around 1.30 am on the outskirts of the station near Chandigarh colony on the Jalandhar-Jammu route after the railway staff noticed that the track points had not changed — a situation involving the split switch turnout system, where a pair of movable rails (called 'tongues') guide trains from one track to another.
The station master at Tanda Urmur immediately dispatched a pointsman to inspect the issue. The pointsman found that the movable rails had been obstructed with stones, and a roughly three-inch-long piece of iron had been deliberately placed on the track, preventing the switch from operating correctly.
The pointsman cleared the obstruction in about 10 minutes, allowing the Hemkunt Express to resume with only a 15-minute delay.
Officials suspect foul play and termed the act a deliberate attempt to cause disruption.
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has initiated proceedings under the Railway Act. Both RPF and GRP have launched a joint investigation to ascertain the motive and identify the miscreants.
'Action will be taken based on the outcome of the probe,' said inspector Kumar.

Railway Superintendent of Police (Jhansi) Vipul Kumar Srivastava has confirmed that the altercation occurred over changing seats. Speaking to reporters, he said appropriate action will be taken based on CCTV footage. The Government Railway Police (GRP) in Jhansi said they have registered a non-cognizable report (NCR) after they received a complaint from Mr Singh. In his complaint, Mr Singh alleged that while travelling with his wife and son, a co-passenger behaved indecently, the news agency PTI reported. When objected, the man allegedly misbehaved with his family and later called others at Jhansi station, who also behaved in an abusive manner.

Students with fake degrees granted US, UK visas; caught at airport
The Bureau of Immigration (BoI) at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport has uncovered a racket where students used fake academic documents to obtain student visas for the US and UK. In the past two weeks, four people were caught trying to leave the country despite clearing formal visa interviews at embassies, accorfint to a TOI report by Mahesh Buddi. The arrests came during routine document checks before departure. All four students had secured student visas and enrolled at foreign universities, but their documents failed verification by BoI personnel. The first case surfaced on June 1 when officers detained Pakeeru Gopal Reddy, 28, from Nalgonda. Gopal had returned from the US after 15 months of study at Webster University, Missouri. He tried to go back in May 2024, but was deported from Dallas due to an inactive SEVIS record. Upon reaching Hyderabad, BoI checked his documents and found he had used a fake BSc degree from Madurai Kamraj University. Gopal admitted obtaining the degree from an agent named Ashok, linked to Sri Dhanalakshmi Overseas Private Limited. He was carrying a fake BCom degree from Acharya Nagarjuna University, a forged Intermediate certificate from 2017, and fake BTech documents from two Hyderabad engineering colleges. He confessed to buying the SSC certificate for Rs 1.5 lakhs from an agent named Yakub and creating the rest using software. BoI registered a case and took him into custody. Live Events The next day, Mohammad Azhar Hussain, 25, from Miryalaguda was stopped while trying to board a UK-bound flight via Dubai. He had a fake degree from Capital University, Jharkhand, and a forged job letter arranged by an agent named Bharat from Emerge Migration Overseas Educational Consultancy. BoI lodged a complaint, and Hussain was remanded to custody. On June 12, Srikanth Marthala, 26, from Guntur was detained with a fake BTech degree from Koneru Lakshmaiah Education Foundation. He admitted paying Rs 40,000 to an agent named Mohan Krishna for the certificate. BoI registered a case, and Srikanth was also taken into judicial custody. RGIA police said the arrests point to a larger trend. They are now expanding their investigation to track down more agents and consultancy firms involved in the fraud.

Rajasthan shocker: Man lies on tracks to shoot Instagram video as train passes over him; held
JAISALMER: A 21-year-old man was arrested for recording a dangerous stunt on railway tracks and uploading it on social media site Instagam in Balotra's Jasol police station area Saturday. The man identified as Kamlesh of Tilwara in Jasol risked his life by lying on the railway tracks as a train passed over him and recorded it on his mobile. He shared the 18-second video on his Instagram account. Police, on getting information about it, immediately arrested Kamlesh. He will be handed over to the Railway Protection Force (RPF). Balotra SP Amit Jain told TOI that Saturday, Kamlesh risked his life to make a video on the railway tracks as the train passed over him. It is clearly visible that Kamlesh is making the video with his mobile and then lies on the tracks before the train arrives. A few moments later, as the train passes, he stands up and laughs. As soon as the video was seen by the police, Balotra ASI Rakesh Kumar and his team went to Kamlesh's house and arrested him at night. Since the incident occurred in the railway police area, further action will be taken by RPF Balotra.
